| Instead of having a boring guest book where people only sign their names we are doing a photo guest book. That way we have a picture and a signature or a little note from our guests. Our guests can even take a picture with them if they want to. I did all the save-the-dates and invitations on my own too. Our centerpieces are a little vase with our monogram and wedding date on them. Those are a few of the personal touches.

| For our wedding, it is really going to be important for us to remember his mom and my dad who both have passed away. We're having pictures of them on the altar as well as lighting a candle for them during the service. I've also decided to walk down the aisle alone, because that is my job and by walking alone I know he'll be beside me the whole way. Also, my something old is my dad's wedding ring. I had my seamstress sew a ribbon into the top of my dress so I can wear the ring inside next to my heart.

We're actually having a candy bar as favours. A bunch of different shapes and sizes of bowls (yard sales and family loaners) and everyone gets a little organza gift bag to fill with whatever they want. Fitting, since we'll be M&M Bamford after the wedding! Also having a small section of diabetic and sugar free candies so that everyone can get something. We're both huge hockey fans (GO SENS GO for me, he's a Leaf fan but I love him anyway) so our entry song is the theme to Hockey Night In Canada.

My fiancee is very private and prefers things to be understated...so no slide shows, or pictures of us when we were young, short speeches, no games, you get the picture.
He proposed on a beach, so we're naming each table after a beach or favourite place in Prince Edward Island. We're strategically placing people at certain tables because we know the place name will have some meaning for them. I'm a scrapbooker and cardmaker, and my friend is a graphic designer. We will be looking into designing the paper and having it printed, in addition to having unique stationary. My brother plays the guitar, so I'm thinking of having him play our first dance song. We'll see. I will be giving my bouquet to my FMIL in memory of her mom passing away this year.

| Chem920....you said you are having a song dedicated to your mom during your reception. I like tht idea. I lost my mom right before Christmas. Can I ask if you are dancing to the song with someone, or is it just a special request? How are you doing it?

|
| Thank you Rubella!! We're getting married December 13th, so the snow/Christmas theme will be strong, but I do like your ideas about the candy machines!!

Minnow- I love the idea of a candy theme for a wedding, especially old fashioned candies if your mom had a candy shop! Did you know that you can rent candy-shop style candy dispensers? Also you could: put candies on the cake, give little packets of candy as favors (they make customized M&Ms which are sooo cute), use the colors of the wrappers for the favorite candies of you and your love as your colors, etc... I'm sure it would be a very "sweet" theme LOL!

What great ideas!
My fiance and I call each other "bird" (hence my user name here), so we have 2 handmade ceramic birds as our cake topper.
|
|
|
|
Wow! I love all of the ideas!
We are also doing a slideshow with pictures through the years and having wedding photos of our parents and grandparents by the guest book.
We plan on writing our own vows but I am really nervous about that...I couldn't imagine singing...wow!!!

My grandfather passed away when my mother was 6; my fiance's dad passed away two years ago. During the ceremony, we are having a memorial candle with a poem and their names on it, with some pictures next to it. We are also placing roses where they would be sitting to commemorate that they are with us in spirit.

| well, both of our families are heavy coffee drinkers (as are we!), so instead of keeping our coffee pots brewing all day, we're hiring our local coffee shop to come to the reception and set up a coffee bar (hot or cold coffee, and flavored). it's easy for us, and fun for the guests!

| My nana passed away, so in her honor, we're having butterfly items placed in different places during the day (she loved butterflies, and actually had the nickname "The Butterfly Lady"!). I had my veil designed to have crystal butterflies in the corner, and we're putting some in floral displays and there's one on the inside of the ceremony program. They're in unexpected places so it's not "in your face" but like a warm reminder that she's there in spirit, if not in person. :)

| For our table numbers, we are putting 2 pictures of us at that age along with the number. We are also having wedding pictures of our parents in frames at the sign in table.

We are going to have 1 or 2 disposable cameras at each table (9 - 10), a COUNTRY magazine, a mason jar with a mataching colored votive candle, a cowboy boot with a rea floral arrangement with an American flag in it, miniature hay bales with a white and black cowboy hat on top, cow candles, a miniature milking can and a galvanized bucket. And my favorite, a cowboy and a cowgirl cake topper, very traditional version though. We are also going to have an hour session of "dance lessons" in the reception from an instructor from Arthur Murray Dance studios.

Great topic! I think it's the personal touches that really make the event. We have a lot!
In honor of my mom that passed we are: -mentioning her in the program of course -my grandma is going to carry a rose when she is seated and place it in what would have been my mom's seat -I'm making the ring bearer's pillows and my garter out of my mom's wedding dress -I'm carrying a bouquet frame with her picture in it on my flowers -We are playing a song in her honor at the reception
Other Personal Touches: -we are making CDs of songs that are "us" as part of our favors -My fiance is a cancer survivor and was a patient at St. Judes during that time so we are also making a donation to them in honor of our guests as favors -We are puting welcome bags with treats from our city in the hotel rooms for our out of town guests -For the table numbers we are making three sided "tents" with the table number and then a black and white copy of a picture of each of us at the age we were corrisponding with the table number (for example, for table 1 there will be a picture of us at age 1, etc) -We are putting together a video of us growing up and then together to play at the rehersal dinner. -We are also putting little baskets in the restrooms of our reception venue with mints, lotions and touch up items for our guests to use
And I'm always brainstorming more ideas!! I wanted a very elegant vintage/old hollywood inspired wedding but I also want lots of unique personal touches that make it truely ours.

| Pretty much everything for our wedding is personal to one or both of us because we've designed/planned all of it. He is making our invitations, my dress is being custom made from a design that I came up with when I was 14, we're having foot shaped swedish fish candies in white tin pails with feet all over them (his last name is Foote), and the location of the ceremony is in the garden of a park because we both love flowers. We're also playing Celtic music during dinner and each table at the reception will be named after an Irish county (we are both of Irish decent). Our cake is going to be simple with lilies and orchids cascading down from the top with swirls in the blank spots. I can't wait for the big day to see all of these elements come together.

| I sing so I'm making a CD of love songs to give away as favors.

I am active in Toastmasters, and my fiancee and I have really made a lot of friends there. We do not want a religion based ceremony, so we decided to ask one of our inspirational speakers to be our officiant. He is so motivational and knows both of us, so it will really be special. We are also having 'our people' stand on our sides; what I mean is that my brother will be on my side, it will not be gender based. That way we will be supported by the people we are closest to.
One last thing we are doing is making sure we schedule 'alone' time during the day. While cocktail hour is going on, we will be having a private dinner together. Then, while everyone else is eating, we will have time to walk around and say hi to everyone, thanking them for being there.
I am so excited to be able to focus on us that day; it's the most important part!

Hi Everyone- I was MOH at a wedding this summer that was so personal. Everything from the location to the brand of wine to the DMB instrumental music playing during the wedding was just "them."
So far we're planning to have buckeye candies on the tables at the reception (my boy is from Ohio and my mom used to own a candy shop), I'd like to do a few other touches too though.
What is everyone else doing?
