My fiance's uncle has a professional digital camera and so do we. He will take all the pictures for us, and we're going to have disposable ones on each table at the reception. We haven't decided yet if we're going to have a video too, but if we do, we'll have a family member record. Maybe my uncle.

Glad to see that I'm not paying something totally outrageous! The photos are the most important wedding expense to me, as I am an amateur photographer myself. We have someone who uses the photojournalist style. We're paying around $3500 (can't remember if it's 3200 or 3500), which includes an album, digital access to all photos, and $75 towards prints. Our videographer is $895.

Yeah another Canadian! I actually live in Calgary and we are getting married in Kananaskis and I agree with the other poster from Alberta saying that with the booming economy prices are a bit inflated for just about everything wedding related. But with that said your photography is beautiful and very reasonably priced! We booked our photographer in Canmore and I think his price was around $2500 for the day and we receive a digital copy of all the photos which was important to us, we priced another photographer who wanted $7000 for the day and then charged a fortune for copyrighted images!

I'm am sure you will do great!

We found a videographer that can do some amazing work so we are putting a lot of money into that. We will spend about $1600 on that and they have a payment plan. Then we have a photographer that is a friend of the family but does weddings and he will charge us $700 to shoot and he will give us the digital pictures and all rights and we can print off whatever and however many we want. I hope to spend $300 or less creating my own wedding book and printing off pictures for us and family members. That does include engagement photos and full coverage of the ceremony and reception.

We are paying $1100 for full wedding coverage and a couple hours at the rehearsal dinner. This includes rights to all of the images. From what I hear this is a great price, and we are only getting this so cheap because the guy works for himself and did all 3 of my sister's weddings, plus everyone else from my small town in PA. It's sort of a family rate since there are so many of us!

We are paying $1900 for 5 hours, all the proofs, a nice photo album of our favorite shots and an online photo album that our guests can go on to and buy whatever pics they want. Its not too expensive but I wouldn't have minded spending more as we really want good photos to remember the day by!

We're paying $2000 for 4 hours, that includes a proof book with all the proofs, a bigger than needed potrait & a coffee table book. I think there are some additional prints too. Guess I should look into that...haha :)

We are looking at a photographer that is $1500 for 5 hours, and we get the rights to the photos

I am going to contact someone my sister knows that may cut us a deal and do it cheaper.

We're paying $2800... our photographer changed his rates to $3600 the week after we booked him, and now they're up to $4100, so we got a bargain! Anyway, it is still a huge chunk of our budget, but pictures are important to us.

By the way, that $2800 is for all-day coverage, an engagement shoot, AND we get rights to print the digital negatives anywhere we want.

Hey I'm from Edmonton too :)
Alberta has a booming economy, and therefore I think rates here are higher than many other cities. (In Canada anyways)
For high quality, professional pictures, expect to pay at least $2500. I am budgeting $5000 for my wedding photos, however it's a very important aspect of the day for me.
This is not to say that there aren't countless amateurs charging less than this, but you get what you pay for.
My advice is to not sell yourself short...the wedding industry is booming, there's not shortage of brides and grooms for you to be shooting.
PS I went to your website, your wedding photos look very fun! good job

Hello,

I am getting married in Aug and I am curious what you are paying for your pictures.

I am also a wedding photographer and I am trying to see if my rates are where I want them to be as well. I am pretty sure I am pretty low right now. My website is www.starshinephotography.ca if you want to check my stuff out. I am based in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, but I am very willing to travel :)
