| I've always known that my dress would be custom. My aunt is making it for parts of my mom's wedding dress and she is incorporating pieces of antique jewlery into the dress. I will warn you that it can be nerve racking waiting on the dress. At this point I know the basic design and the color. That's it. I won't find out more til May when I get to bring it home.

| My dress isn't totally custom, but I was able to tell the designer at wai-ching.com what I wanted to change about about one of her bridal gown designs and she is making it to my measurements and specifications. If you want something alternative to the normal wedding dress, check the site out!

| I'm having mine custom made by one of my fiance's mother's friends. I researched dressmakers for a long time before we even got engaged and was very disappointed with the lack of options online. Most places that have websites have professionals and will run you at least $2000 for the dress. You could ask your friends and family to ask around to see if anyone knows of someone. That's what I did. I would just say be careful who you pick in the end. Make sure you see other dresses they've made. This is the most important dress of your life. You don't want someone to ruin that for you.

Beware of any dress maker that won't give you testimonials. Also ask to see samples of their work, pictures as well as actual dresses. That way you can see the quality or lack of quality. And it generally takes approximately six months to have a custom dress made.

| I have tried on many dresses, but haven't found one that has everything I want and none of the things I hate. So I am considering having one made that would be a mix of things I like from different dresses but have many concerns/questions. What are people's experiences? What sort of things do I need to look out for? How hard was it to communicate what you wanted? Was the dress everything you dreamed it would be? Thanks in advance.
