My fiance and I are both American, but I am African-American and he is half Mexican-American (but leans more to the white American culture). I am fluent in Spanish and he is learning Spanish and we attend a place of worship in Spanish.
So imagine that his side brings White American Culture, mine is black american and then we have all this hispanic american in the mix.
We plan to do the ceremony in English and our vows in Spanish (since none of our families understand Spanish.)
I have seen a wedding where the woman was white American and the husband Mexican. They did the ceremony half and half and it was great! If my family spoke Spanish I would totally do that.
Food and music choices?? Simple! Have the food buffet style and let people eat what the want!
Music, have it in sets. 3 or 4 songs each per genre of music. Just like you would do any other time to please the older and younger guests or divide up between fast and slow songs, now just through a salsa, merengue, and bachata sets up in the mix!
We too will probably have a mix of songs for our wedding party to dance to.
Hope that helps some!

Hey All! I'm marrying a Dominican, and although I've only just started getting ideas for the wedding, I know that we are going to encounter some problems it being an Interracial Wedding.
One thing I know we'll have a problem with is the language gap. No one in my family speaks spanish. His family mostly only speaks spanish. There are a few from his side who do know english but not many.
Another thing I was worried about is the ceremony. We are planning for a church ceremony. So I'm wondering if I should get a spanish speaking priest also, to translate.
Then there is the food, and music choices. oh jeez! We've already decided for our first dance we'll have it start out as a nice slow American song, then change halfway thru to a semi-slow Bachata song. Ever see a white girl dance bachata? hehe I have the ill dance moves! haha lmao
Are there any other interracial couples, or weddings that have already gone on who've encountered any problems like I might face? Do you have any tips? Funny stories? etc...? I know my wedding will be hilarious trying to get everyone to meet and talk to eachother and stuff hehe!
Also, if there are any Dominicans on this site. Do you have any traditions for weddings, my Fiance has no clue! His sister only told me that usually the bride changes her dress for the reception, which is what I was planning to do anyways.
