I kind of had a similar problem. My dress was supposed to be made to my measurements (not just ordered as a size), and when I tried it on, it was really big in the waist and bust. I kind of freaked out a little at first, thinking that it was already a bit big, and I still want to lose a bit more weight.
However, I had my first fitting last Friday, and it was so easy. They just pinned in the sides and that was it. Apparently, it's a lot easier for a seamstress to take in the sides than to fix something like the length of the gown. I'm not even being charged for alterations, even though they weren't included in the price of the gown.
So, the point of my story is to say that it probably won't be a problem for you to have the dress taken in when you reach your goal weight! I guess it depends on the actual style of your gown, but my dress is all beaded lace and has a beaded dropped waist that I thought might be a problem, and the seamstress was able to work around it. You might want to ask the seamstress at the bridal store to get a more professional opinion, but I thought I'd give you my personal experience. :)
Good luck! Let us know how it goes!
