| My bridesmaids and I will be wearing flip flops. They have tealength skirts and I bought flipflops w/clear thongs which I wrapped in green tulle w/a bow in the center. They ended up really cute and the girls love that they don't have to wear heels.

I say go for the tennis shoes! I'm short, but I'm wearing flat shoes of some kind underneath just because I think it'll make me more comfy, do what works for you!
|
|
|
|
| I absolutely adore shoes so I will be wearing cute flats (I am 5'10") but I think that every bride should wear what she is comfortable in. Your wedding day is the one day you call the shots and if you want to wear tennis shoes then so be it. Personality is key, if tennis shoes are "you" then go for it!

My cousin wore slippers underneath her wedding dress , for the ceremony and reception , not the loose fitting kind, the ones that are fitted hehe . She had a long puffy , fairytale style dress so no-one would have seen her shoes, lucky for her though she's very tall so that worked out great for her.
I on the other hand am only a short 5'2 so i need to wear heels under my dress lol
Will they be able to see your shoes or will your dress be covering them ?

| I think the bride should wear whatever shoes she feels comfortable in. I am tall (5'10") and I dont ever where heels so they really hurt my feet. I am wearing flats of somekind. I think the sketchers are a great option. So are the ballet flats. I would totally wear flip flops but I dont want to hear the flipping and flopping as I walk down the aisle! :)

I don't think people would even see your tennis shoes. Just put them on after you do all of the traditional dances.
Or you can get ballet slippers.

My Fiance is about an inch taller than I, so I'm going to have to wear some flats also, which I'll wear throughout the ceremony and reception. I was going to go with some cute ballet flats. But like everyone else is saying its totally up to you and your comfort.

sketchers makes some cute dressy sneakers... my friend got married in a silver pair of them and they were awesome (cute and she was comfy the whole night and you can't really see them with a long dress much anyways)... Look for their "bikers" line.

i'm wearing some sort of flats for the ceremony(I'm 5'11 as well), but for the reception i'm planning on buying some converse shoes matching my wedding colors. :)

| I am a runner too~! :o) Hail fellow runner. I actually plan to run the Chicago marathon before about a month before the wedding. running is my passion. Gatta take care of my tootsies. I have a floor lenght dress that is med. poofey. lol* I am thinking pretty shoes for the ceremony and something comfy for the reception. Not tacky...but comfy. running is my life, and I want to do a lot of hiking, beach combing, dancing, and flea market shopping on the honeymoon. Pain free that is.

| I hate white shoes and have really hard to fit feet, so I wore blue slippers for the wedding and reception (they were my 'something blue'). Most wedding dresses these days are long enough and poofy enough that no one will even notice your shoes. And if people judge you, then why are they even there?

You should do what you fell is the best option for you! There are a lot of great ideas out there in the stores and from people here. I don't think in the past few years I've been to a wedding where the bride wore her heals after the reception started! I haven't gotten my ceremony shoes yet but I already the ones for my reception - my favorite flip flops (rocket dog) in white. Once all of the formal things are over I'm going for comfort and my family/friend wouldn't expect any different! I'm getting comfy shoes (whether it be flats, ballet flats or flipflops) for my girls too so their feet aren't sore and we can celebrate and dance the night away!

| Personally I would never do this. There are beautiful white/ivory satin ballet shoes at plenty of department stores come spring. Even a champagne metallic flat with beading or rhinestone detail would be pretty. Ballet flats are very "Audrey Hepburn" and they never go out of style. I think if a bride wore tennis shoes it would look like she forgot her intended bridal shoes and was stuck wearing her chuck taylors. To me it's a big no-no. There are WAY too many pretty flats out there to compromise class for comfort.

| Only if they were the ones from Father of the Bride. Memba those?? So cute. I just got my shoes Tuesday and they are 2 inch sandals. That is pretty low for me so I should be good.

| I will definitely wear some beautiful heels for the ceremony. I will probably have a second pair of shoes, something more comfortable for the reception. (After our grand entrance of course!!)But it will still probably be something stylish sandal just a low heel or flat.

| I second the doing what you want. Plus, you could add ribbons, rhinestones, whatever you want to make them look a little more bridal if you want (of course, you have to go lightly with that to avoid the cheese factor). I'm wearing heels, but I'm taking sneakers to change into for some of the walking during the photo shoot.

| i could probably get away with it myself, as my dress is long enough, but i already bought some really comfortable nice sandals with a small heel...i figured that they didn't look extremely bridal [just nice] so i can wear them again and again if i want to.

| Thanks for all the great ideas. I think maybe wearing my dressy shoes untill the heavy dancing starts is the best option. I mean hey I don't want to be to crippled to enjoy hiking and beach combing on the Honeymoon. That way we are still keeping it classy, but at the same time not killing my feet. :o)

| Although it would be more comfy, I think a nice pair of heels is a must for a classy wedding. You probably took the time to find a beautiful gown - why ruin the look with an odd pair of shoes. Maybe you and the groom could surprise the guests half way through the reception (when the real dancing starts) by changing into some vintage style clothing (where tennis shoes would be more appropriate) and dancing the night away!

| I have been to weddings where the bride wears the fancy dress up shoes for the wedding and then switches into tennies (hot glue some beads/lace/bows on them if you want them to look "bridal) for the dance/reception. Everyone just laughed and had a good time.

| My husband & I are huge dancers... We danced the night away, and had what some may deem a "classy" wedding.. Anyway, I didn't wear tennis shoes, but I did find some awesome strapped sandals that were small heeled and easy to dance in. Honestly, though, if you would be more comfortable in it, they why not? Do what you want to do. :)

Our wedding will have a 1940's theme. We intend to do a lot of dancing, with a big band to some classic swing and other big band music. I am already 5 11' as well. I was thinking that maybe wearing tennis shoes would solve both problems with one stone. But I was afraid people might think it was tacky. We are having a pretty classy wedding. What do you ladies think~?
