I'm keeping mine and having it altered so that I will be able to wear it again. I'm having it made in two pieces, and the skirt will be cut down to an A-line tea length skirt with the organza just as a flat overlay. I think it will be great because I'm not having traditional colours so it won't obviously have been a wedding dress.

I still have my dress from my wedding 33 years ago and wouldn't part with it for anything. It is a 1970s style with beads on the front...

I want to do Trash The Dress photos, I've seen some really cool ones. I think I'll get more use out of some great photos than keeping the dress around after the wedding.

I'd love to keep my dress, but I just don't know if I will...I'll never wear it again...

I kept my dress from my first wedding, first as a "memory" & now I am keeping it because my daughter asked me to. She is only 8 now, & who knows if she will like it when she is older, or if it will fit her, but for the time being, I am hanging onto it.

My friend had hers made into a beautiful Christening dress for her daughter.

I am for sure keeping my dress! My Mom has hers, her mom has hers as well as her moms!! My grandma has her mothers veil and has it in a glass display box, it is sooo delicate I think if you opened the glass it would disintigrate! She has also taken her dress and did the same type of thing with the veil and her lace sleeves. I think it is so special to be able to see these things! I was able to spend a few minutes alone with her when I first was engaged and we shared this special opportunity to look at them all! No, I probably wont ever be worn again, but there are so many sentimental things I can do with it to share with my family!!

I probably will not keep my dress... while I love my dress and would love for my children or grandchildren to wear it one day I know that realistically that probably won't happen. Dress shopping is so fun, and the styles change so much over time what is to say they will like it?

I am going to keep my veil for future generations however, as these do not change styles drastically.

I got married July (some of my pics are on my photo page)I have had my dress professionally cleaned and its hanging in my mums huge wardrobe but Im thinking of selling it. Im hoping someone who cant afford to buy an expensive dress will make use of it...Id like to think they will feel like the princess I felt on my wedding day. I may even auction it for a charitable cause, possibly a cancer charity as I lost my dad to stomach cancer 2 years before my wedding.

I dont see the point in keeping it, I have no daughters (they would probably want to chose thier own anyway) Its just taking up room and it will deterioate over time. I have loads of pictures when I want to see it.

I'm thinking about seeing if someone can take my dress and turn it into a receiving blanket so make it some type of keepsake.

i plan on keeping my wedding dress. THis past summer my nieces tried on my Moms wedding dress from my parents wedding 42 years ago, my neices thought it was SO cool to try it on. Yeah, maybe it will never really officially be worn again. But it is a keepsake.
THe fact that you have made this dress YOURS- with your style and flare, that makes it even more of a keepsake. Could you imagine someday showing it to your grand daughters, and seeing their joy in trying it on, knowing it was worn down the isle by you?

I haven't thought much about it. I'm not ever terribly attached to a dress, but I did pay a descent amount of money for it. I'll probably have it preserved in case anyone in the future wants to wear it.

I'm not wearing a typical 'dress' for the wedding itself.. not only is it not a dress at all, it's antique, so I definitely plan on keeping it.

As for the more typical wedding-y satin dress I am wearing for the reception... it will either be given to somewhere like the Glass Slipper Project, or I will have it dyed black and use it as a formal gown. It might sound scandalous to some people, but I'm really not sentimental over the reception dress, and at least that way I could wear it again!

it will be preserved and saved for future children.

These are great ideas! I know that if I have kids there is not much of a chance that they will want to wear my dress. The practical side of me and the sentimental side are at war. I won't wear it again...I could give it to someone who would...but it's my wedding dress! I had not heard of the baby blanket idea before...I also love the idea of ring bearer pillows! Since I fell in love with a poofy dress (which I never thought I would)...maybe I will have enough fabric to do both a baby blanket and a pillow. A trash the dress session sounds like fun...but I think I would be cringing too much thinking of what the dress costs to really enjoy it!

I plan on "trashing" my dress afterwards. I'm not too attached to it and its nothing too fancy or expensive. After the wedding, my husband and I are going down to the beach and doing a fun photo shoot romping around in the waves and the sand.

A friend of mine just got married and her dress is filthy from dragging on the floor and dancing with people spilling drinks everywhere. She's keeping it like that to look back on say "what a night!"

I've thought about dropping mine off to one of those places that sells dresses really cheap for women who can't afford them but still want nice dresses.

Im going to have my dress made into ring bearer pillows...for my children to use in their wedding. I know that the styles will change and *if* I have a daughter, I doubt she will want to wear it...this way it can be passed down through the family and get some use!! (I hate the idea of it just hanging in my closet for years...)

Interesting! I think I will keep mine, I've paid a lot for it and it hasn't even arrived yet and i feel attached to it. My mom let us play with hers in our dress up clothes growing up, it felt pretty great to walk around in it as a little girl :)

I have no plans on keeping my dress. I didn't pay much for it. Honestly- I'm not sure I'll have it long enough to wear it in the wedding. I've got no attachment to it all! The only reason I bought it is because it made me look thin and it was cheap.

I'm planning on donating mine, I think. I don't know if I'll have any place to store it if I get it preserved, and I've heard it's pretty difficult to sell them.

yeah i think i'll get so attached to it I won't be able to part with it. My fiance thinks I should sell it and make a bit of money because i wont wear it and he has a point but I would miss it too much I think. Silly I know. Besides its been custom made for me so it will be hard to find someone else it fits properly.

I have my dress from my October wedding.. And honestly, I have no idea.. I've had it cleaned.. I don't really feel an emotional attachment to it.. I'm just not sure! LOL

Wendy, I've never heard of having the train made into a baby blanket! I bought the David's Bridal wedding dress preservation kit, haven't made up my mind to sell or not to sell though...I don't know if I'll be able to bear parting with it!

I love my dress!! I'm planning on having it perserved and if any of the young ladies in my family would like to wear it they certainly may. Some women have the train made into a baby blanket which I think is a really neat idea.

i bought my dress from ebay, for £41 ($80). it was new, the woman thought she would lose enough weight to fit into it and she didn't.

however, when it arrived it was nothing like the picture and i hated it. i ended up taking off the netting and flowers, lifting the lace to just under the bust and i added a coloured tie back, took out the zip and made coloured loops and a back panel. i also changed the sleeves and added a net sash with beads on just under the bust. i now cannot describe how much i love this dress.

i was planning to sell it on when i had finished but i now know i couldn't. i spent weeks doing it and i love it so much i know i am going to keep it.

are you planning on keeping your dress, if so it is for a special reason.
or are you going to sell it, or pass it on to someone else?
do you hope to keep it for your daughter, or do you think its daft keeping a dress for 20 years or more when she might hate it.

looking forward to reading your thoughts
