Ha! I think there should be a 9/20/08 wedding date chat! Just kidding but there are a lot of us with the same big day! I've been doing better but the scale just goes up and down over the same 5-7 pounds. I decided to commite to my workouts better and with the warmer weather this week it has been easy so far-I just want to get out all the time. Now if I can make it through this weekend without slacking off like I have been I might just break my cycle and start really losing! Good luck everyone.

We have the same wedding date. I know the feeling. My weight gain has been over several years. I need to lose at least 20 lbs & would love to lose 30 lbs. I am trying to eat 5x a day & lower my portions but still eating carbs, protein & lots of veggies. I try to put veggies into everything. Also all carbs are brown not white which is more filling...hope this helps.

make sure you are staying for the stretching before & at the end of the class. I found that it helped me.

My wedding date is 09/20/08 & also need to lose weight. I have been exercising for a month- gym 4-5 times a wk & we walk at lunch 3-4 times a week for about 35-45 minutes. But HELP I am not losing any weight. I do feel better, no insomnia but I also would love to lose 25-40 lbs by Sept.

I am getting married Nov 22 and I also work out at LA Fitness in Cypress. I have 35 lbs. to lose before the wedding...but would like to lose them by the end of Summer!

I go to spin class at the gym at least 3 times a week. It's the best workout I've found so far.

it says to eat about 130 carbs.. but often i try to avoid them... so then i find myself trying to find enough carbs by the end of the day and trying to increase them wihtout adding fat, calories, etc to the mix...

they say medication will be a factor for weight gain. I was on some as I had brongitis and ear & throat infection. Now I have vertigo back on more medication. I am not enjoying this at all.

no we are on the north/eastern side of Ontario, about half way up.
Thunder Bay is up higher and more to the west if you can find highway 11 or 17 where they meet that is where I am North Bay population of about 56,000

Hi everyone. I just signed up for this site yesterday. I'm getting married 9/20/08. I am trying to loose about 30-35 pounds and really tone up. Unfortunately, I blew off the diet for the first half of my engagement so it's crunch time!! I'm hoping to achieve my goal by the end of June/July. I'm trying to do everything I can to stay motivated and not get off track again...starting with announcing my goals, taking ownership of them and surrounding myself with nutrition/fitness information daily.

Hi Gwynnie: North Bay is 3 to 4 hours north of Toronto, east of Sudbury; 4 hours west of Ottawa.
Yes the highways do travel up here and farther still.
If you have a map we are more than likely on the opposite side than Toronto.

Thanks, If we ever get spring I will start to walk out side put we had -15 with the wind; I have been sick the past week but I am on the mend but I will not walk in that.
I am very involved with Habitat for Humanity here in North Bay Ontario Canada so that keeps me very busy. Let me know how you make out by Monday you can do it. 1 pound at a time.

I started to eat healthy as of Jan 1 (210lbs) I am now down 10 pounds(200). What I am doing is getting more protein starting with breakfast, morning snack, lunch, afternoon snack then supper. If I am hungry after supper you guessed it another protein. I still eat almost everything BUT smaller amounts good luck.

My wedding date is Oct 25 and I love to have a buddy. I am trying to lose quite abit of weight. I just started my work out routine this week. I live in the Cypress area and go to LA Fitness.

My routine for the week has been
Mornings 30min on the treadmill
Evenings 35min on the precore then weights (alt back/legs/arms on differnet days)OR 1hr long gym class

I find that I am more likely to succeed if I have someone to be accountable to. One my co-workers was calling me in the mornings to make sure that I get up and work out but now she is quiting. So if someone would like take over that would be great . If someone else needs a person to call them to remind them to work out. I'll be glad to do that to.

I am getting married October 17, 2008. I'd like to tone my upper body by the summer time, and I'd also like to gain some slimness. I am currently freaking out because I bought my dress and now am worried if I lose weight, it's not going to fit. But, I need to worry about my health first - I can always find another dress, or get it altered - I can't find another body! OK...is there room for one more? I'm getting married Oct. 25, 2008 and just signed up on this site. I've been going to Curves and lost 10-11 lbs in 1 1/2 monthes, but some how lost my will power. I got sick on Thanksgiving, got over it after Christmas, and the holidays just did a number on me! Now, I'm starting to get back on track. I'm getting married 10/4/08 and would like to slim down by about 20lbs at least. I started last week with the weight loss program by changing my eating habits... then this week I started forcing myself to get up at 5:30am to work out before work. I missed doing it today and feel so guilty about it!!! This is something I need to do for sure at least Mon-Fri to make me feel like I'm working towards my goal.

My goal is to loose the weight by May so I'll be well-toned for summer and all the upcoming wedding stuff like parties, etc. My goal is to maintain the lower weight for life once I drop it!!

Hi ladies!!! I'm not getting married (yet!!) but my best friend is in September and I need to lose 25 pounds by July for the dreaded bridesmaid dress!!! I think July is great because of the fittings and everything else!!

I haven't thought about my regimine yet, I work 2 jobs so its a crazy schedule for me. I plan on starting back at the gym tomorrow since I have to work tonight.

I would definitely rather do strength than cardio, but I know I need both. I'm very out of shape so I usually do about 15 to 20 minutes on a stationary bike after a 5-7 minute warm up on the treadmill. Then I do free weights.

My downfall is my diet though, I love to eat!! So I definitely need some motivation with that!!

Hopefully you guys will let me in since I'm not a bride yet!!! (Hopefully coming soon though!!!)

Congratulations! Seems like you are making progress (small steps will conquer the world). Your regime sounds quite fun, especially the hike on a saturday morning. I think it is much easier to exercise outside than in a gym or at least the scenery distracts you from your muscles complaining :)

For the moment it is off to the bike park 3 days a week for about an hour with a longer ride in a nature reserve on saturday or sunday. I am doing a tiny bit of yoga at home, finding it incredibly challenging but fun. At the moment it is two days a week but I do want to increase that in the equation. For now I am mainly focusing on aerobic exercise (for the first 4 weeks) and then I am planning on adding toning. I think it seems less daunting that way.

As for Pilates my sister swears by it and I know it is quite similar to yoga in that it is mostly about the core muscles. Have you tried typing Pilates in the search bar at the top of the page...or you can just click on the hyperlink in your last post.

I've started. I'm fortunate to have a few supportive friends out here (and online) who are also looking to get in shape. What is everyone here planning on doing for their regimen? Here's mine (to start, I'm trying to build up endurance before I add days)

Tuesdays - Cardio (right now I'm up to 20 minutes, 5 minutes more than I was last week. I was very out of shape...)

Fridays - circuit training - 24 Hour Fitness has a "24 Minute Circuit" set up with ten different machines all together. Makes it very easy to circuit train

Saturdays - Hiking. My friend and I have decided to go to Griffith Park and hike every week, trying different trails each week.

Sundays - Cardio for 20 minutes, yoga for one hour.
(sadly due to holiday events coming up in the next few weeks, I'm going to miss a few classes because I have commitments in the evening that conflict with a 4-5pm class, but I will substitute for an early trip to the gym, cardio and strength training that day.)

Has anyone tried/looked into Pilates? They have those classes at my gym as well, and it's earlier on Sundays, so I may try that on weeks I can't do Yoga...I just don't know exactly what Pilates consists of, so I want to know what I'd be getting into. ;)

Hi Ladies

We all seem to have the idea to shape up, but haven't really done anything about it yet. So the way I see it we would all like to be in wedding shape by the 1st of June which is 185 days away (computer calendars are so clever).

This translates to just over six months of shaping up and then maintaining that shape for the last 3 months. So diaries out... I think it is probably safe to work on the premise that 7 hours a week should be enough to get in 3 - 4 days of both cardio and strength training. Therefore we need to find those 7 hours.

Task 2 is to find some activity that is actually fun - for me this is mountain biking.

Task 3 is to actually start doing both the cardio and strength training.

So thats what I think the plan of action should be. And having fitness buddies should make it a bit easier to stay on track - no pun intended:)

P.S. I usually prefer to follow rather than lead but it seems as though we all are in "its on the list of wedding to-dos" phase and I figure this is a good way to get started.

It was just recently that I came to that realization, and as soon as I did, I joined up at a gym. I'm now trying to actually SCHEDULE my workout days on my calendar, just as I would my work appointments. It helps hold yourself accountable. :)

I'm getting married on the 13th of September next year and am looking to lose around 25 - 30 lbs before June. So if you are interested I am willing to be your partner in crime. :)

For motivation:
*You will not regret missing three or four hours of tv a week, you will regret looking at your wedding pictures for the rest of your life and knowing that you could be in better shape.

And find an activity you enjoy, I just bought a mountain bike and am having a ball on it which takes working out from being a chore to some wonderful relaxation.


And as for the time:
*The time to workout will never just happen, you need to make it fit into your schedule.

I'm getting married on 10/12/2008.

As it happens, when I went back East to look at locations to get married in (we're both from New England but live in LA, so we're having a fall themed wedding - it's the one thing about the weather out there that I miss!), my mother and future MiL brought me into David's Bridal and I found THE dress. It was the first time I went looking at dresses, and when I put it on, I just knew.

I got a size that fits, but is just a tad snug. Meaning, I can't gain weight this year, but I can lose without hurting how the dress fits. (aside from that, dresses are easier to take in than let out)

The dress is in our apartment right now (hidden from the fiance, of course) and is serving as GREAT motivation to get in shape.

What sort of themes/colors are all of you using for your fall weddings?

That sounds like a tough schedule. I had a hard time when I was on my internal med rotation a couple months ago...I was supposed to be training for the half, but I was at the hospital from 6AM to at least 5PM, sometimes 9 or 10 and I worked for 12 days to get 2 off. Needless to say I had a hard time working out (probably one of the reasons I didn't lose any weight). I had trained well before then though and I trained hard for a couple weeks before in October, so I finished the race in an okay time with no walking (!!). But it was challenging. I would just say it feels 100% better to get it done in the AM, before work (now that doesn't work well when you have to get up at 4:45 to make it there by 6, but if you have to get at work at 8, there should be a little more time). I would think it would be good to do a 20-30 min aerobic workout before you go and then weights or pilates/yoga when you get home. Its just finding the motivation to do that that gets tough...
Planning has been hard for me because we are both students and so parents are supposed to be helping and its amazing how difficult it becomes when you add that in the mix!! Who will pay for what, why isn't this aunt or uncle going to be invited etc etc etc. Setting the guest list has been the hardest so far. We went from 40 guests to 50 to 80, and it is looking like there will be more expansions to come (I hope not, I do not want a circus).

Hi!

I'm getting married the following Saturday, the 27th! So have you done much wedding planning yet? It hasn't stressed me out too much yet (though I'm sure it will as it gets closer), right now it seems wedding planning is what I do for fun when I actually have some free time! I saw on your profile that your in med school...now that is stressful! Good luck! I just graduated from law school this year and studied for bar exams and all that so now I am suddenly free - and I've gained 10lbs since I took the exam! I think law school had me so stressed out for 3 years that I actually lost weight running around like a crazy person, and now that I am just sitting at a desk all day I'm gaining weight pretty quickly. So, that is why I need motivation, because I definitely can not GAIN weight before my wedding! Right now there are days when I work 12-14 hours a day, so getting to work out will be the biggest problem for me. Do you have a workout routine that you do? I saw you ran a half marathon, wow, that's awesome!! Do you run daily? I used to run, and I loved it, but I hurt my back...and my knees...so I guess now I'm too old to run. :) Ok I better get back to work..but good luck and hopefully we can motivate each other because our weddings are just 311 and 318 days away!

I'm getting married Sept 20th 08, I really need a weight loss partner! I need to lose about 20lbs and tone up before then too. I have lost about 18 lbs since 2 summers ago but I've been stuck at the same weight for about a year now.
Anyway, I'm so excited to plan my wedding and everything, but I know the stress is going to make it really difficult to keep going on my weight loss plan. Anyway, get in touch if you are interested!

Hello,

I'm getting married next September, 2008, and would like to lose 30 or 35lbs by the summer, before all the bridal shower, bachelorette party and other stuff starts going on, and before all those pictures are taken! And I definitely need to tone up those arms for that strapless dress! I especially need help with motivation and finding time to work out, and would love to have a "buddy" with similar goals so we can help each other get to our fall 2008 wedding weight (and hopefully make the whole losing weight/wedding planning process a lot less painful!)
