I think the most important thing about someones wedding day, obviously apart from their partner being there, is that you are comfortable. I have been going stir crazy trying to please everyone in both sides of my family, everyone wants lots of make-up, traditional this, traditional that, long curly flowing hair, yuck. I have finally decided that I am going to go to my wedding as ME! No flowing hair, minimum make-up, and if my H2B tried to change me for our wedding day there would be trouble!

If she is really uncomfortable in a dress, a pantsuit would do really nice. I also think it is very important for it to be her AND you brother's decision. It is their wedding, not just hers. However, if they do agree that she doesn't have to wear a dress, they could do a theme wedding...that could be real fun!!

don't throw rocks: i despise dresses! and so did my bridesmaid at my wedding and she wore a lovely blue 2 pieces suit wt pants. she felt great, i didn't care b/c i would do the same if i was asked to wear a dress when i don't want to. i HAD to wear a dress as a bride but i'll be a godmother next year and i WILL wear pants. i hate dresses!

Remind her that the day is about both of them and compromise should be the basis of the marriage! I don't want a wedding at all, but its my other half's dream to see me walk down the aisle in a beautiful dress...why don't you try to put it to her that way?

I think your brother should be able to voice his opinion. But it's her day as much as his. I can't wait to wear a gown, but if my fiance or society said I had to wear a tuxedo, I'd be uncomfortable. Maybe she can find some nice palazzo pants, or silky trousers and a nice white top that won't make her feel to girlie. I think if she's creative she can come up with someone unique, classy, elegant without compromising her own tastes.

My brother is recently engaged, and due to school schedules, the wedding is planned for June 23rd. They're planning an intimate ceremony (immediate family only) and a larger, backyard reception (about 75 guests).

I went to lunch with them yesterday. Turns out my brother's fiancee doesn't have any wedding experience - never been a bridesmaid, doesn't have any married friends...I don't know that she's ever been to a wedding. Since I'm married, my brother was thinking that I could help his fiancee in the planning. She took most of my ideas and suggestions well...until I mentioned that she would need to find a dress ASAP, since she doesn't have time to order one. That's when she told me she doesn't plan on wearing a dress. My brother was surprised....and told her that he kinda wanted her to wear a dress. She told him she was a tomboy and wouldn't be comfortable in a dress. I suggested that she at least try on some dresses to see if she'd change her mind...and if not, she could probably find a nice white pantsuit if she looked at mother-of-the-bride type outfits.

I talked to my brother later, and he's really disappointed that his fiancee won't wear a dress, at least for the ceremony. I realize he shouldn't force his fiancee to do something she doesn't want to, but...it's his wedding too! I told him to talk to her about it, and if she wanted to go shopping or something I'd come along if she wanted me to.

At this point, I'm going to butt out on the dress issue...but I wanted to ask the brides on here - should my brother get a say in what she wears?
