I'm in Indiana and getting married down in Key West, FL -- so I hired a wedding planner. We're still in the early stages, but already I can see the benefit. She has all the resources for all the vendors, and does get better deals because she's worked with them. absolutely saving me the stress! good luck!

I live in Missouri and I'm planning a wedding in Tennessee. It is a bit challenging to do everything long distance but I enjoy the planning. There have been a few times that I've wondered if I should've hired a coordinator, though, even though my site has one. If I did it again I probably would. A good one would most definitely be worth the money. I'm doing a very casual wedding so that makes it much easier to plan. I have done all my planning online with only one trip in to finalize decisions/details. I can understand about it being more difficult to find information on more remote areas, though. I've had a bit of trouble with a couple of details even though my area is a tourist stop. Good luck and congratulations!

I live in DC and am getting married in PA and I work full time. I do not have a coordinator, but i absolutely LOVE this planning type stuff. and i used to live in the area we are getting married, so i have some familiarity. I think a planner is worth it if you dont really enjoy the planning yourself or dont have the time or dont have the ability to make as many trips as you would like. I have heard that they can really save you money sometimes because they get special deals with vendors - so if you decide to get one, get one local to the wedding.

We are getting married in a different city. I work full-time and we are working with a wedding coordinator. Honestly - it is the best money we have spent. In fact I think she will pay for herself by the time the wedding comes around, because if I didn't have her I would need to travel to my parent's place much more frequently. She has also really taken the stress off.

A good wedding coordinator will work with your budget, so if you are paying for the wedding yourselves, it might be a good idea - I found it really useful to have a reality check about what stuff costs, and where it is worth spending money vs. what things are extras that aren't worth it. Remember, vendors will only work with a bride once, but may work with a wedding coordinator many times, so sometimes that means you get better service and a better deal. Definitely worth considering.

Is anyone else trying to organize a wedding in a state that they don't live in?

I'm having my wedding back home, but that's quite a long way from where I live. It's also in a pretty out of the way spot, so most of the websites (like TheKnot and Brides) don't even list it! For Massachusetts, they only list Boston or the Cape/Islands areas. What about us Western Mass folks?

I'm having a hard time figuring out reception sites and caterers and flowers, etc. Has anyone here worked with a wedding coordinator, and do you think it's worth it? We're paying for it ourselves, so $$ is a consideration.
