David's Bridal actually isn't bad. They have good customer service, a large selection, and designer gowns.. they have some of the more expensive dresses though.. I was GOING to buy my dress there but now don't know.. I'm probably going to have someone make it just cause I'm so specific I know exactly what I want, and I can't find the perfect dress. *shrug*

I'm looking for a Melissa Sweet Hallie dress. I've looked on e-bay and saw a knock-off but it loses it in the translation ... know what I mean? If you know of anyone who wants to sell or even rent, let me know. wedding is Sept. 07.

I think I tried on every single dress at David's...I had no problems with the customer service or anything, although I have heard complaints from other people.
None of the dresses there were 'perfect' though, and I found a Maggie Sottero dress I loved at Schaffer's in DSM, for about $900. I decided to have my seamstress make one just like it, for about $600.
I was looking around on eBay one day, for the first time, and found the dress I wanted in MY SIZE, BRAND NEW, and won the auction. I got it for $350. I was pretty excited. Fits perfectly (except for having to chop off a foot cuz I'm short!)

Suprisingly I got mine at David's Bridal. I am a very picky person and if you told me a year ago that I would find my dress there for $800 I would have told you "not going to happen"! I have very expenise taste and don't get me wrong, I blame it all on my mother. However, I found a beautiful dress that was on sale at David's for $800. I am getting married in August her in LA.

I got mine on eBay too. I went to David's and tried on some. Then I found "The One" but wasn't quite ready to order it. I went on eBay and found the EXACT same dress - except one size smaller. It was $400 at David's and I got it for $205 including the garment bag and S&H. And I lost the weight to get into the smaller size so now it fits me perfectly!

I haven't bought my dress yet, but I've been searching for styles and designers I like so that when I look I'll have a better idea of what to expect. I'm going to search the garment districts of a couple larger nearby cities and also try some local shops. I've heard horror stories about David's before, so I'm avoiding it. I know a few people who got lovely Jessica McClintock wedding gowns and they loved them! They have about the same price range as David's, I think.

I got mine at a local shop in Austin Tx called Belle Saison Bridal and they were wonderful. The had a HUGE selection of better quality dresses for much cheaper. My dress was $800 and I had seen it in specialty shops for over $1300! They also had most the dresses in sizes above 8 so the average woman can actually somewhat fit into it instead of trying on a size 2 when you need a 12. I would recommend them to anyone.

i bought mine at Macy's, i have heard too many horror stories about Davids, My best friend is getting married in october. We ordered our bridesmaide dresses from there three months ago. They never placed the order and when she and another bridesmaid went to check on them they were discontinued and only had select sizes left. They never called to tell her any of this.

Another friend of mine had a bridesmaid dress from there that ripped haveway through the wedding.

i would just be careful if anyone decides to use Davids Bridal..

I got my dress at a local shop called Charlotte's Weddings. They were one of only two shops in my state that carried the line of the designer I fell in love with. My bio pic shows the dress!

I was planning to have my mother's dress re-made by a seamstress we know as a wedding gift, but when we got it all ready to go, we realized there were stains we couldn't get out- not to mention my mom was a size 2 when she got married and i'm a 12/14!! so my choices were to either re-build the top of the dress and keep the skirt the same or just start over. We went to David's for ideas of what I wanted so that Faye could make the dress and I found a dress I was absolutely obsessed with! We bought it the next day and I'm really excited- it was on sale for $600. At first I thought I might be making a rush decision, but I think that if I keep looking for one I like BETTER, I would just frustrate myself.

Haven't ordered mine just yet, but I'm probably going with one from David's bridal. Every other store I've been to there have been very few dresses that fit me. I know it can be ordered to fit me, but it makes me nervous to order a dress without really know how it will fit when it's all zipped up. I can't buy off the rack...I'm 6'0" and have to order it the longest I can get! :) I'm hoping I don't have a bad experience with David's...

I was just curious as to how many people got dresses at Davids Bridal or local places etc... Also what did you pay?

I found my dress at Davids but found a great replica on Ebay. I got it in 3 days and $250 cheaper than Davids Bridal wanted--ended up only costing $320 with shipping included. It looks absolutely identical.
