I like the trivia idea... my parents did that for their 50th birthday, and had little provocative questions like "who once had a shoe thrown at their head by a neighbor" that got us to ask the funny story. You can get everyone to vote for bride or groom.

I also like the idea of honoring people who have been married a certain amount of time... especially if you know someone who has been married 20, 30 years and has a beautiful marriage. You can have them give their top 5 tips for having a good marriage (they could write it down and have the DJ read it if they are shy).

i like the chocolate coin idea too!instead of a bouquet toss..i'm having all the single ladies write their name on the bottom of my shoe and by the end of the reception whomevers name is still readable will get the bouquet..(i read it somewhere thought it was neat idea)

I really like the idea of tossing chocolate coins to kids!! I was thinking about doing a teddy bear toss for the kids, in addition to the bouquet and garter tosses, but I just wasn't completely feeling it...but maybe chocolate coins, or something similar. Thanks for the great idea!

the dj i just booked(another thing done!)...had a good idea...after dinner he gathers everyone for the first dance and the rest of the traditional dances..then we cut the cake and while the cake is being prepared for everyone they get the dancing going...that way people can just boogie and are not being stopped and started...

In addition to the married couples' dance that was mentioned above, a DJ I talked to said during that weird lull between dinner and dancing, he can call up people from the 'audience' and have them participate in a trivia game, where all the questions are about the couple.

I thought that sounded fun because it puts the spotlight on the guests for a while.

We are thinking about having some kind of entertainment, maybe a magician or something.

if you are having a DJ they are usually full of ideas to get people out of their seats and on the dance floor

Have you thought of any entertainment? Depending on what you like of course. A friend of mine has an Elvis impersonator and an Islander band. They were awesome. They did the Haka and some traditional dances.
Also magicians and comedians are always popular...

i just went to a wedding where the couple invited all other married couples onto the dancefloor for a special couples song. then the M.C. called the couples off of the dance floor according to how long they'd been married. for example... "if you've been married 3 years or less, please sit down...5 years or less, please sit down..." on and on until the last couple standing was married for 50 years! it was very cute.
