sage - i read down to the bottom to find your message, and it looks like people got confused along the way! you are a GROOM! have you cut out the alcohol?? i'm trying to get my fiance down to 190-200, and i know his weight will fall off if he just cuts out alcohol.
Also, try to replace some snacks with a tasty low calorie drink - diet sodas, crystal light, etc. This will satisfy your tastebuds and keep your stomach fuller.
Knowing men, you will probably be back on this board in a month telling us all that you lost 20 pounds! Then we will all be depressed...
Good luck!

WHOW! Cruiseinlala... I bought an ab lounge a couple of months ago with the intent of doing just what your doing. In fact, I wasn't going to let myself watch ANY tv unless I was sitting in that.
Perhaps I need to jumpstart things with your plan!

| I'm an August bride also (24th) The best advise I have with the calorie counting is do your meal planner a day or more in advance.......don't count as you eat....that way it is all figured out.....printed and stuck to the fridge so I know what I can have......what to pack for lunch....ect.......also I bought an AB lounge 3 weeks ago.....have lost in that time.....2.5" off the waistline, 2.25" off the belly, 2 off the hips and all just using daily for 15 mins while in front of the TV! I have 18 more pounds to lose hopefully most of it B4 my dress fitting in 6-7 weeks? Have lost 32 since January 1!

I started tracking my food today and was surprised to find a few items in the database that I thought I'd have to add. That's encouraging. As you said, I'll probably end up making some best guesses regarding some of the foods that I don't have the nutrition info for.
The key is to just do it!

I definitely vouch for adding some weight training to your regiment. I lift 3x a week and then cardio like crazy the rest of the week (30-90 minutes per day).
I would recommend you do your best with counting "out" calories too. I have a hard time there too, but I try to find something comparible in the lists if I don't know the exact numbers so that I've at least tracked something. It's a good way to keep myself accountable for everything I put in my mouth. I agree that it's a pain... but it's so easy for me to conveniently "forget" or not count things.
I was stagnant for 4 weeks and ready to quit - even WITH all of the above! And then I gave up alcohol during the week (no wine with dinner!!) and I started losing again. 9 pounds down... 16 to go!

Thanks everyone for the welcome...
I like the idea of counting calories, but I've tried it before and just got frustrated with how much time and effort it took. I eat a lot of "different" things from place like Whole Foods and Trader Joes, which traditionally aren't listed in the food databases. It looks like Sparks has more foods listed than others so I'm hoping I won't be doing too much manual data entry everyday.
As for exercise, one of the things that I think it REALLY important is weight training. That has always been the thing lacking from my routine and I am making a very conscious effort to do it this time. The more muscle you have, the more calories you burn, even when you're sitting around. I'm really going to try to go at least twice a week.

I am also getting married this Aug. I of course knew about this last Aug. and have kinda been putting off the weight loss thing. One thing or another was always a good excuse. So....I now have 4.5 months to lose the 20 pounds I want to lose. I started "dieting" in Jan, and have fallen off that diet several times. I have lost 6 pounds since the beginning of the year. But still want to lose another 15-20. So I am hoping that Sparkspeople will help me achieve my goal. So far it has been a big help. I am a goal oriented person and so tracking my calories and excercise help me see what I've accomplished and where I am standing.
Good Luck to you all with your goals and congrats. on the engagements.

| Hello and Welcome! I am also getting married in August and want to lose those pesky pounds! My advice is with exercise. Always try to push yourself (not to exhuastion) a littler further everyday. You body gets used to the same routine so change it up a bit.

Hi! Welcome! I'm Sarah. I need to lose 25-30 lbs before my wedding in August as well. My biggest advice is to count every calorie with SP. It really makes you aware of how much you are eating. If you stick to your calorie budget you should do fine!

Hi, my name is Ali and I'm getting married on August 26, 2006. I'm male, 31 years old, and currently weigh 225. I'd like to be 190-200 by the time of my wedding. I'm really determined to do it this time! I have an elliptical trainer at home which I've been using 3-4 times a week for 45-minutes at a time. That's helping. I also try to do some weight lifting at the gym. My main goal is to eat less! I love food!
Anyway, would love any advice/feedback.
