Truthfully, it gets easier every time. This last time it really wasn't a big deal. I was a little sore that night (because I was wearing fitted jeans, duh, I know better) but nothing major. It also seemed to go quicker, and it honestly wasn't as bad.
Did you like the results? Is it something you want to maintain? I have to admit that the first time I did it was for my fiance, for our wedding, but I've gone back because I really like it. If you decide to maintain it. it's better not to wait a LONG time before you go back, otherwise its kind of like strating from scratch. I believe they told me most women come in for it every 3-4 weeks, for me, its 6-8 because it grows slowly on me.
Anyway, I wish you the best - and it really does get better.

Sorry, Michelle, I hadn't seen your question. How are you doing? Did you decide what you want to do yet? As to your question about how embarrasing, I would rate it (for me) about the equivalent of going to your GYN. And for me, that's tough - I don't do that unless I HAVE to. But it helped that I trusted the woman who was doing it, and she really tried to make me comfortable. And yeah, it seems my hair grows really slow. I am currently at about 6 weeks and I still don't have much to show for it. I think positioning depends a lot on the person doing it. I did not have to position myself with my butt in the air, but have heard of women who have.
Do you have a good girl friend who could go with you and offer moral support and your favorite drink before or after?  It sounds like that might make the process a little easier for you.
As far as cost, the first place I went to was like $40. The place I go to now charges $25 and up, and I think I have never paid more than $30. As far as a tip, the first time I went to this new place, I was so relieved and thankful that this girl was so great, and I tipped her very generously. And I have kept up that practice. I look at it as an investment and way of expressing my appreciation for her kindness and good care.
I wish you the best - and really, the first time is the hardest. Once you do it, and if you decide you like it and want to continue, you'll know what to expect. I think fear is the biggest thing. Once you get past that, then its not so bad.

I'll post! I had posted earlier about getting waxed. This past weekend I went to get a Brazilian because I want to have it 4-6 times before the wedding, so the hair will be thin and not grow in as fast. I'm new to the area, so did not have a waxer. I decided to go to the woman who does waxing at my hair salon. She ripped me apart! I left here bruised and bleeding... She gave me a discount. It was supposed to be $50, but she gave it to me for $40 (I was used to paying $35 in my college town, and she was so apologetic for the bruising). I've seen some places that do them for $70+
I will still go back there to have it done. Maybe the problem was that I've lost so much weight or something. For me, it is the principle of the matter: the hair will grow back thinner, and the more often I have it done, the less ingrown hairs and the less painful it will be.
I don't know if that answers any questions or just terrifies you, but I really needed to get that off my chest!

| I have the same paranoia as Michelle! I stopped shaving so I could make an appointment and I was so disgusted with myself that I was too humiliated to go through with it!! But my MOH just made us an appointment today to go on Monday so I'm going to stop shaving and have to suck it up! She's been through it before and trusts this woman so it makes it a little more comfortable!!

I know what you mean . As far as hair growth, the longer the hair is (within reason)before you are waxed, the easier it is for them (and you). It needs to be long enough to really be grabbed by the wax (I know, not a pretty image). But I know its hard, but don't worry about what they'll think if you go in there hairy. It'll actully make things easier for them. You know your body, but you may want to give it even longer if you can. Like I said earlier, for me, it takes about 6-8 weeks after a previous wax, (3-4 weeks after a shave) for it to make waxing worth while.

I was afraid of that too, that was why I did it the day before. It will depend on how your hair grows. I would think you would be ok, you may be seeing some stubble around the middle of the second week. Like I said, it will depend on your body, but you should most likely be really smooth the first week and half.

The first time I went (the day before the wedding), I don't think the girl who helped was as experienced. She had me naked from the waist down. It was similar to going to a gynocologist. In the salon where I have gone since, the girl is awesome. I always keep my underwear on, and just move it to the side when she needs it. Practically speaking, it probably doesn't do much, but it does make me feel better. After she does the waxing, she goes after any stray hairs with tweezers. The first time she did that, I was mortified. But she really goes out of her way to be professional and make you feel as comfortable as possible. I am saying this because I think it is important to find the right place/person. A good place will be very professional, protect your modesty as much as possible, and try to make things as comfortable and painless as possible.
This is probably WAY too much information, but I am a bit self conscious about someone working that closely in that area, so I always make sure I wash right before I go. That is just my personal concern, so go easy on me. As to the question about hair length, it does need to be longer than shaving. The salon recommended going about every 3-4 weeks, and not shaving in between. For me, my hair seems to grow very slowly, and its more like 6-8 weeks. I was a little worried about that, thought it would be uncomfortable as the hair grew back, but have been pleasantly surprised. For me, at least, there has been no itching or discomfort. I just go back when I want things cleaned up a bit.

| In response to another question: Sometime she does not get everything, so I will run over things with a razor a couple days after the wax. The first time I waxed, I noticed growth within a week, but the more I do it and the more often I do it, the longer I can go without noticing growth.

Hair should be about 1/4 inch, I think. I usually let it grow for 2 weeks before a wax. When I've had the Brazilian done, the woman has me wear a 'paper thong'. It doesn't really do much, plus she's going to be moving it around and will see the whole deal anyway. I have never had the wax up the rear, like some Brazilians include. It has been offered, but I say no. She has me on my back the whole time and I shape my legs into a figure 4, to make access easy. The first time you get it done, you don't realize which rip is going to hurt the most. I think naivete is good in that respect! Now I clench my body every time she is going to do the most painful rips!
You could always have it done once (before the wedding) to see if you like it and can handle the pain. Some people get hooked, some people don't want to do it ever again. It all depends on the person!

I've had the Brazilian quite a few times. I find that I enjoy intimacy more when i'm clean there. Also, my fiance likes it a lot better. I've slacked off because of the expense, but plan to have it done a couple times before the wedding, so I will be hairless and rash-free for the honeymoon. One salon sold something for ingrowns, which I have found to work great. It is alcohol that helps the hair break the skin. It helped me avoid the usual ingrowns.
As people have said, you should never have to do anything for your hubby. But I think there are benefits for the woman by having a Brazilian. The pain can be bad (I usually sweat up a storm because of the pain), but any modern woman should be able to handle some pain. Also, if you get a good waxer, they can have it done in 10 minutes!

I just wanted to say I was in the same boat you are. I was very curious about getting a Brazillian but thought it would be too embarassing or painful, and I was content with shaving. My upcomming wedding provided motivation for me because I wanted to surprise my husband. So I finally just did it. And in all honesty, I was very glad I did. Did it hurt? Definately. Was it worth it? For me, without a doubt. When I first went in to the salon, I asked if it really hurt, and I was told "Not too bad". Then, when she was in the middle of doing it (and I'm gritting my teeth), she asked again if it was my first time. When I told her it was, she said "Oh... You very brave girl. Most girl cry they're first time." And I thought "Now you tell me!!!!".
Although it hurt, it did not bring me close to tears, so don't let that story scare you. I did take Tylenol about an hour before. Also, don't wear really tight, stiff pants, like your favorite, make your butt look great jeans. Once it was over, I really wasn't sore unless my clothes pinched that area, etc. I did not get any kind of rash or irritation, and I really liked the result.
When I did it, although I was curious about it for myself, what got me to "just do it" was wanting to surprise my husband. But after it was done, I was really surprised to find that I loved it. It was so soft, smooth and neat, and lasted much, much longer than shaving. And my husband's reaction was awesome. And since our marriage, I have gone back and maintained it, but did so for me.

Yes Michelle you are right! I am so tired of girls being taken advantage of and doing things for the wrong reason. That is all I was trying to weed out. I get a little over-protective. I have too many friends that take way too much crap! I can't stand it!
KG's response is a relief! It sounds like that is not the case.
We try new things from time to time, like I said I an not a prude....just wondering about motives!

| I didn't mean to make him out to be a bad guy. He is the sweetest, most caring guy I have ever met. I'm 30 years old and I feel I've survived every crap guy there is in LA. It's more that I want to do it for him, I am just nervous of the process. But I've always wanted to try it, even before I met him. So, it's not as if he's forcing me to. I just wanted to hear from someone that it wasn't as bad as everyone says. But, apparently, that's not the case. THAT makes me nervous.

| thanks for the info, i think it will help to know its only an hour of pain!! haha, ...as for landing strips, no offense to anyone, but for some reason it grosses me out when people do that!! i'm for all bald or all hair..just neatly trimmed!! it just throws me off when i see this one stip of hair, i don't know, something about it just don't appeal to me, but hey i'm not a guy!!! ....for naan, don't take this the wrong way, but maybe you are reading too much into him wantin her to get a wax? you seem almost pissed off that he is askin her to do it? i think its great that he can ask her to do something new, and it doesn't sound like he's about to call off the wedding or something if she doesn't!! and i kinda get the feeling she wants to do it, but she's waiting for someone to say it was a breeze!! haha, ya right. you know what, its going to hurt, no matter what it will hurt, its just a choice to do it or not. i say try it, you might love it and find an hour of pain is WAY worth it!! who knows, maybe he will show you some new tricks after, haha!! good luck!!.....who knew waxing could be such a hot topic?

MichelleF-I only had the bumps for maaaaybe two days. If it was even that long. Getting the post-wax lotion really helped. I didn't have any bumps after the second time.
I'm not sure how long it too. I would say less than an hour for sure. If you're getting legs done too, budget two hours. Thats just my guess though. I've never gotten my legs waxed.
Naan-I've heard that too about the landing strip being "in." My feelings are that if I'm going to fork over $50 I'm going to leave completely clean-no landing strip. Its not like they're going to take off money for what they didn't take off!

KG, Your messages make me worried. Why do you feel you have to do this? If your fiancee wants a porn star, he should have picked one. He didn't - he picked you, with all your thoughts, needs, hang-ups and good points. I read through all of your posts and you sound genuinely scared. He needs to support and love you, and care for you. Not scare you, or worry you.
Why on earth would someone who loves you do that to you? Is there an unhealthy balance of power in your relationship? Are you feeling insecure compared to how media projects women. Maybe you are young. When I was young I thought I had to cow-tow to men to have them like me. Guess what, you don't. My confidence now is sexy. I know what I want, what I like, and where I will draw the line. I am open, but not if it will hurt me or my emotional well-being.
AND - The average woman looks nothing like models, actresses or porn stars. And my fiance pointed out that most porn stars or models are very young! They haven't even finished growing yet!(Bless his sole, he loves me how I am.)I could never have that body in a million years. I am a woman, not a girl.
And I am not a stick-in-the-mud, or against waxing or anything like that, not at all. I am for equality in a relationship. It doesn't sound like yours has that. Be careful.
He is making light of it, and joking around - I still don't see him lining up to get it done next to you. Would he stand for you making light of something that is important to him? I bet not.
My motto is I would never expect anyone to do anything I am not prepared to do. This covers things my kids eat, things I try, new experiences, etc.

WRose...you said you had those bumps with yours, how long did the rash last for? i am planning to get waxed a week before i leave for my wedding,do you think the rash will be gone by then? oh and how long did it take to get the wax done? i am looking at doing a brazilian with my legs all at once? any idea how long i will be in the salon for?
...also for the girl (sorry i dont' have your name right in front of me) who is considering getting waxed for her fiance..why don't you try a do it yourself wax first to see how much it hurts? although you might hurt yourself more than a professional woould!! or just go in and get a small area done first, like bikini or just lower legs to get a feel for it? anyway, just some suggestions. I know most people on here are saying to pass on getting it done, but i think you should really consider it. wouldn't it be great if you decided to do it and not tell your fiance and then you could surprise him on your wedding night? i don't know, but i just think you should really at least try a little bit for yourself before you make a final decision. It's only a little bit of pain for a little while to make your fiance happy!!! good luck with whatever you choose!!

I tell my fiance that i will do watever he likes but I'm not going to get a wax. He deals. Yours will too. Don't make yourself go through it if you are so afraid, that's just silly. You don't need to sacrafice yourself for his sexual pleasure. Tell him to get a wax first and then see how he responds.

I've gotten the brazilian wax done twice. The first time wasn't too bad. My hair isn't all that thick though, and the girl said that I was lucky-hair that is thick hurts more. The second time I had it done right before my period. Under no circumstances do I recommend being waxed at that point in your cycle. Hurts like a motherb*tch.
I stopped getting it done because it was $50 a month and I could get basically the same results shaving. I had to shave more often, but waxing doesn't make you as smooth as you think. Also, the first time I had it done, I got little red bumps all over. Gross, I know, but when I went the second time I told the girl. She said they were just inflamed hair follicles-kinda shocked from having hair ripped out of them. I bought some lotion for the area from the salon-its special for post waxing. Soothes the area.
The bikini area is nothing like any other part of the body. Getting your legs waxed does not translate to the crotchal region, etc etc.

| i got a full leg wax last summer, and it didnt hurt any worse than someone slapping you on a bad sunburn... repeatedly :) but in the end, for someone like me who feels like they have to shave every single stupid day... totally worth it to not have to worry for 2ish weeks. just make sure all of your hair is long enough! i have no idea about the bikini. i'd say try a 1/2 leg and see how that goes :)

| hi, i am going to cuba for my wedding/honeymoon and i am planning on getting a brazilian plus my legs waxed. I have waxed my own legs at home, not too often but probably about three times a year, the more you do it the less your hair grows back, which is great!! try takin a tylenol a half hour before you get waxed and also..VERY IMPORTANT..don't get waxed the week before your period. women are bloated and when you are bloated your skin insn't as tight around you and therefore it hurts more when they/you pull off the hair. anyway, i have never been professionally waxed and am willing to take the embarressment of showin it all, but i do have a question if any of you can help me. i am plannin to get waxed one week before i leave, just in case i do get a rash, i was wondering how long did your rash last for? its worth it to me to get a rash and not have to shave while on vacation as long as the rash is gone by then!!! alright thanks for any info you guys have!!

| I never get ingrown hairs from shaving, but did from waxing down there (just a bikini, no brazilian). For me, it just wasn't worth it. I was smooth, but had a bunch of red bumps. And I went 4 months in a row, so it's not like it was just my first time. I have friends, though, who love it and have not had any problems at all!!!

Tell him you will do it if he will. That will probably slove that problem with a quickness. And if he says no, then you REALLY shouldn't feel bad. Unless you plan on wearing a thong, I wouldnt get the Brazilian wax, maybe compromise on the bikini line.

a good way to not get ingrown hairs,
put moisturizing lotion on all over about an hour before you shave. it makes it soooo much better. plus your legs feel and look better too!

| I've never tried the wax, although I do shave regularly and highly reccomend some sort of grooming down there. If money isn't a problem, you could always look into laser removal. It isn't painless, but it's not as bad as waxing so I hear.

I've been wanting to try waxing too - especially for my underarms! The problem is that, on my legs particularly, I'm extremely succeptible to ingrown hairs. I tried waxing my legs at home once, and not only did I not get anywhere near all of the hair, but I got the ingrown hairs then too. I'm guessing that a professional job might do better, perhaps I broke the hairs off instead of ripping them out like I should have.
As soon as the hair on my legs is long enough (if I can stand to let it grow out that long) I think I'll try my legs and underarms - if I can handle that, then I'll try the bikini.

ive used nair, which works really well. i want to get a bikini wax, but havent found the time to go.
wax does have some problems to some people, but not all. if you're afraid of the pain, then use nair or another thing like that.

well, I have done a full bikini wax, but not the full brazillian kind that gets you from the back as well, that sound mortifying. it was pretty embarassing to get the bikini wax, but they do it in stages, and you keep your panties on, they just move them around in stages. there is some bleeding because the hair there is very strong. It was pretty painful, but so is under the arm. I recommend doing your underarm first and seeing if you can take the pain there, if you can't don't do your bikini fully, just a partial and shave. I did get a rash there the first few times. You have to exfoiliate and clean well and use peroxide to keep it disinfected because the skin does break. it is sensitive so be careful!

| You can always do a test strip on your arm or something before you get the bikini wax to make sure you won't have asevere allergic reaction. I've never had a bikini wax, but several of my friends have and that's how they made sure they weren't allergic.

| I can tell you that a bikini wax hurts the first time. It is very important to go to a reputable salon that knows what they are doing. It's all about the technique. The second time was not nearly as bad and the rewards were great. I went to the beach last year and didn't have to think about my bikini line once. I haven't gotten the nerve to do the full brazilian. Plan to wear your comfortable panties the next day because your skin will be sensitive.

I'm sorry, but I am not letting anyone put hot wax anywhere near that part of my body!
I know that if you have sensitive skin they recommend to be really careful about things like that. Other than the pain factor, that's why I have some issues with waxing.
But I do agree that if you try it out beforehand you'll have a good idea of what your reaction to it will be. And an irritated rash during your honeymoon would not be good for your fiance....

Well maybe start out slow and don't get a full brazilian, just ask for a bikini line wax... Then if it hurts too bad you could always try to find something like that nair stuff thats safe to use on the bikini area... I agree that if your eyebrows hurt (I get mine waxed every once in awhile) that a brazilian would have to be worse!

| Well exactly! My wedding is July 8. That's why I want to start early if I do react badly. I've heard such scary things too! When I get my eyebrows done, it hurts and I've been doing that for years so I can just imagine how painful that would be!! But I feel bad if I don't do it!
