| I am getting married the 14th of October 06, and we got engaged on the 7th of Nov. We have been together 10 years and 2 kids, so I have been waiting a long time. i am a size 24 and I figured I was NEVER EVER going to find a dress that was beautiful. Well I was wrong because it took me less them 3 weeks to find it and it was last yesrs style so I got ir for a steal!!! And it was to big!! Big bonus!! Well the last time I rried it on it didnt feel as good as it did the last time, so my sister told me about this site and so far she has me hooked. Im trying to lose 50 lbs before my first fitting in Aug and then maintain my weight loss till Oct. Im only 5 days in and im still afraid of the scale I have no idea how im doing as far as the scale goes but I have been staying between my target goals.

My bridal shop told me 4 months, and I am banking on that because I'm allowing myself 7 months total! Since my weight is finally starting to come off, I've held off on ordering, and I'm going to go at the end of this month to have them measure me and finally place the order!
I guess the alterations part just makes me nervous. If I lose 2-3 sizes like I'd like to, then I want to make sure the dress will still look good.
All of my weight is in the bottom half though, and I hadn't thought about how the dress won't really be affected by that!

| I would go with 9 months to be safe if you are planning on ordering from a bridal shop. If you are taking the David's Bridal route, you can wait till closer to 6 months.

I actually just got my dress, my wedding is in August, and it was almost a distaster! Make sure you give the dress time to come in, like someone already mentioned. I was just VERY lucky... the recommend that you give yourself 3 months for alterations... and my dress wasn't scheduled to even come in until the end of May (EXACTLY three months from my wedding), and that was with me ordering it in January... Luckily, it came in last week because they had one in stock at the corporation I ordered it from. Just make sure you give yourself time :) Good luck!

| okay good well I have 14mos so I have some time then. I have previously lost 60# and have kept it off for a couple of years so I am not worried about regaining once its lost. Its just these last pounds are taking a long time to come off. so this is good to know. thanks!

| I would go before 6 months...depending on the maker of the dress, it could take your dress 6 months to come in. I got my dress a year before my wedding and still losing weight. The seamstress told me not to worry about the weight loss much since I hold the majority of my weight in my bottom half and I have a strapless dress. They can usually alter dresses down 1 to 2 sizes but not more than that.

| I was told 6 months in advance by shops but I am not sure if that is true or not.

| How long should you wait before you go dress shopping if you are planning on losing weight? My wedding isnt until April 2007. I am not one of those girls who is dying to go to the bridal salon.
