I had to book my church 15 months in advance for a Sept wedding, and I didn't even get my first choice date or time! It's a week and two hours earlier than what I wanted.

As for making losing weight more fun - treat yourself to good tools. When I started working out, I bought all new clothes for just working out, so I would be as comfortable as possible. A few good sports bras to keep my chest from bouncing and being uncomfortable, spandex shorts to prevent chafing (I got some great, not skintight-clingy ones at titlenine.com), new sneakers, and new fancy running socks. I also own toys like a balance ball, a heart rate monitor, a yoga mat, some DVDs, and some dumbells. I've built that up over the years (my dumbbells are 10 years old) through spurts of activity and inactivity.

A personal trainer is a great idea for setting up a program and staying accountable. I want to do that when I get healed up a little more - right now, my physical therapist is my personal trainer. If you have a bad back or knees, you might be wise to see if you can see a physical therpist for some do's and don'ts - aggressive working out can aggrevate an old problem.

I highly recommend a late fall wedding. It is so much easier to plan when you aren't competing with the wedding season chaos to find vendors. If you set it for Fall 2007 you'd have plenty of time to lose weight, with a goal in mind!

Don't wait to lose weight to set a date.. Set the date that you want and that is motivation to get moving! I recommend exercising outside now that the weather is getting nice ( depending on where you live)

Amanda, was the personal trainer too expensive? Also, did you feel nervous? I feel like they will judge me if I can't keep up, or just judge me on my appearance to begin with.

go ahead and set a date that will give you a goal to work towards. set it for a year or two. my husband & i are renewing our vows in may 2009. that gives me three years to get down to 125lbs.

Oh go ahead and set one! It'll prob be a year out anyways- esp if you want a Saturday. Dresses take about 4-6 months to come in, and then they can alter it if you lose even more weight!

I agree it's good to have that date out there for motivation! My FI and I work out together so we can be BUFF! lol! And even my Mom is on here now using the wedding as motivation! :)

New Ciara- don't wait to set a date. You have a very reasonable weight goal and you can achieve that in no time. Don't delay the most important day of your life. Set a date to reach your goal- and DO IT! If you can't afford a personal trainer- get a friend to be your workout buddy! The other girls are right- if you wait- you'll loose out on a lot of locations or vendors.

My best wedding related investment was hiring a personal trainer. I hired her for twelve sessions and worked with her twice a week for 6 weeks prior to the wedding. She was awesome to work with and I have learned so many new techniques. My legs look the best they've looked in years!

another thing to consider, you might give yourself enough time to lose the weight before the date you have to order your dress by . . . . I know I ordered mine in the summer for a March wedding, . . . had I been at goal when I measured it would have made things a lot less stressful . . . so figure out how long it will take you then add 8-6 months to that and you should be good to set a date around that time!

I agree with Raven, set a date now just give yourself the time to lose the weight. I got engaged last December and we are getting married in August, so I had 18 months to plan. When we looked for our place, some were already booked, luckly the one we really liked wasn't. Plus there is just so much to do. You get stressed and you feel like you are running out of time or forgetting something.

Since you aren't set on a particular date, you can pick a day after you reach your goal weight.

Instead of waiting to lose before setting a date, I set a date to motivate myself. We decided on May 5 of next year, and I would like to lose around 50 lbs before then. Now I have the extra kick in the pants that I needed!

I love yoga I recomend yoga for Weight loss by yoga zone, . . . and there is also a yoga just my size which is a good introduction to yoga as well . . . I also enjoy the 10 minute solutions kickboxing . . . . I also really love my ballence ball . . . it makes a sit up a lot more fun!

Congrats on the engagement, do set a date for yourself though! The momentum will help you out too!

First off, congratulations! Honestly, if you are looking at a popular time to get married, it might be hard to find a site. More than likely you'll have a year (give or take a few months) until the wedding. I would think that would be enough time to lose some of the weight you want. I wouldn't put off your wedding date just for that.

Set a date anyway, but far enough so you have time to lose weight.

I started to do this and have found a lot of the places I wanted have already been booked.
