my fiancee and I went to Pre-marriage couseling at church. It was very imformative and helped us to look at some thing in a different light. I defintely reccomend all couples to get some sort of marriage couseling before you wed to help get an insight of what is to come during your marriage. :) good luck and congratualtions. only 13 days left for me :)

| We are with the pastor that is marrying us. I'm excited for the sessions, because my pastor is non denominational and very supportive.

My Fiance and I went to marriage counselling and it was wonderful!
we already had discussed most of the topic before hand (having been together for a long time) but it was great because it reminded us of how much work one needs to put in a relationship for it to work! It's not something that just happens! You both need to want it and that is what we got from the counselling!
Can't wait to be a mrs.! I feel ready too!

Diane Sollee, the organizer/leader of Smart Marriages, organizes a yearly conference where they do nothing but talk about marriage for four solid days. The listing above includes essentially all the programs out there. Some of my favorite folks are:
- John VanEpp
- Steven Stosny (his Boot Camp is fantastic, particularly if you or your fiance have a temper, and who doesn't have a temper?)
- Tom & Beverly Rodgers (Christian, but they don't push it on you)
- MarriageBuilders (Willard Harley)
- Harville Hendrix
There are many more wonderful folks out there; that's just a start.
For one-on-one coaching, I have to recommend Penny Tupy (www.symcinc.com) over all others. Disclosure is in order, here, thoug: She's a good friend of ours, performed our wedding ceremony for us, and my husband and I both volunteer for her marriage help organization, SYMC. I love her to death even though she won't let me get away with one little bit o' crap.

| Ditto on the counseling! Will right that down on my to do's. We just started saving money for it. My fiance has to some classes to become Catholic first. Or should we do the counseling first? Hmmm...I think you just opened pandora's box. lol! j/k

Pre-marital counseling is for both. It's ideal for people who have a lot of problems, or none at all.
Honestly, I think it should be required before people can get married.
We've had sessions with both a pastor as well as therapist. Google counseling in your area and start calling around. We will be continuing our counseling even beyond our wedding day.
You think you know someone....until a counselor starts pointing things out! :)

What is pre marital counseling for exaclty?
Is it for those who are having problems already in their relationship, or to find out how to deal if problems arise later???

| Does anyone know of a way to get pre marital counseling that's not through a church? We are getting married by his cousin who works for a hospital's chapel (he whent to seminary school) We both don't belong to a church but we def want to go through pre marital counseling.

My fiance and I are getting married in Fall 09 and are going to start counselling. We love each other very much but would love a third party to help us through our problems or arguments to better understand each other. I think its a great idea!

Yes... I'm Episcopalian and he's African Methodist Episcopal... since he moved to Florida we both attend my church and the Episcopal Church is huge on premarital counseling.
We just finished a 4 weeks of 1 hour sessions and although we are different as far as our personality types go we are also the same in many ways.
We also share the same beliefs and morals which is a plus.
When we started dating we went online and did various questionnaires about relationships, families, marriage and things of that nature in general. Once we got engaged we did ones that were marriage specific so a lot of what we discussed in the premarital counseling we'd already covered. It was still an awesome experience and I think it's definitely worth while.

| YES! Although I love love LOVE my H2B very much, we are very very different. We also have a son together, so it's important to get time to talk to each other because once you become a parent, everything changes in your relationship too. We went a lot before, rarely go now. It's good to find someone to sit and talk to, maybe like here and there. It gives us time to talk to each other and have to face the crap we run away from without that 'mirror' of another person in the room with you.

| My daughter is getting married next year she will be twenty years old. The same age as her father and I were when we got married. We are still together 20 years later through much prayer and support from others. I am concerned nowadays that people spend so much time preparing for the big day and not the rest of their lives together. We did not have pre marriage counselling, but we did get involved with family Life marriage conference two years into our marriage that was very shaky at that time- it saved us! Is anyone prepare for the storms of life before they come?
