A friend of mine loves color on wedding dresses because it is so unique. Her mother, however, told her she wasn't allowed to wear a colored wedding dress in church. I, personally, didn't see what was wrong with it. I found THE perfect dress - ivory with pastel pink, blue, lavender and green flowers (David's Bridal CV008 - it's discontinued, but you can find it online used and at some stores still). It's amazing, looks like a true wedding dress, and since it's 2 piece, you can actually wear the top part with a nice pair of pants or silk skirt after the wedding as well! I think it's totally up to you what you want. My poor friend looks at her dress and thinks it's pretty, but when she looks at mine, she sighs and her eyes tear up.

Do what is right for you! If you are feeling a colored dress I say go for it! I adored Gwen Stefani's pink dipped dress - bold and beautiful and perfect for her - make your own statement! Good Luck!

I was in a wedding where the bride wore bright red, and all the bridesmaids wore champagne. She looked truly lovely, and no one was confused about who the bride was.

I am having a similar wedding, but I have chosen to go with a color not white becuase I would like to wear the dress again. I cana ppreciate the wedding dresses, but I would like to be more practical. The dress I am going with is also from Davids and I chose it becuase of how it looked on me, I feel in love with it. Go with what feels right!

I have a dress picked out that is blue, but I am not quite sure if I am going to go with it or not. It is a bridemaid dress from David's Bridal, but the style of dress looks more like a wedding dress. My fiance and I are planning a lower budget, less traditional wedding, and this dress definitely fit what we are looking for. I will wait to see how much weight I lose to decide if I want to order it or not. They had a ton of colors and styles to choose from though, and they are all on their website. I am also planning on flowers in my hair instead of a vail.

I found the dress but have not bought it. I wanted a dress I could wear again, I know its my big day and all, however I don't want somethign I am going to stick in the back of some dark closet the next day. With this I also had an idea of what I was looking for as far as the style of dress, so I tried on 10 dresses. It was the 9th that looked the best, it beautiful and I feel wonderful in... The catch is it comes in 5 colors: plum, black, brown, blue & red. Needless to say, I have decided that I am wearing RED! If we end up getting married in Feb the colors are Red, black (brides maids) with gold accents, if we get married in July, we are going w/ the pariotic colors: red, white (accents)& blue (brides maids).

i was actually thinking of maybe gettig another dress! have one for the rec. and the other for the ceremoney.....bc i sene this one that i love on a country website and it is th theme of my wedding but i dont know if it would go withi victorian lilac and teracota (my moh is wearing) that is the only thing and also they are all wearing ivory boots. i hate that when that happens.....the one is the pic that is on here and the other one is like a denim corset (two piece dress)

I haven't purchased my dress, yet, but I am looking at one that is ivory with wine accents. The back of the bodice (the corset-like laces) is in the wine color, as well the top strip of the dress (it's a strapless, like JKSCHROE describes her's to be. I think the non-traditional looks are awesome, but it is definitely up to you!

Mine's white with wine accents. The train is wine, and there is about a 3 inch band at the top of the bodice (it's a strapless dress). I think it's really classy looking (obviously, otherwise why would I have picked it). :)
I think that the main point is just to wear whatever makes you feel amazing. If it's pure white, apricot, pink, or a tux, it doesn't matter. It's your day.

maggie sottero deisgns some really beautiful colored dresses I am wearing ivory for my wedding but we are having a second reception and im wearing this beautiful emerald dress.
I was also watching some wedding special that was talking about how white wedding dresses can to be. Apparently King Henry put a hold on dye (or something to that effect) and it became so hard to get colored dresses women were married in white even though COLORED dresses were a status symbol and much more expensive.

I think colored dresses are gorgeous. I really like Champagne--like everyone else on here it seems haha :) It looks better on most skin tones.

I saw in a magazine where the bride wore a color underlay that showed a little. It was really cool not something i woudl do but it was pretty. U can also add color by wearing ur colors in ur shoes! like if ur colors are pink wear pink shoes!

The "traditional" white dress came from the Victorian era when queen Victoria wore a white wedding dress. It soon became the tradition for women to wear a white dress, and the symbol of purity was given to it as well.
Before that, most women or their families did not have enough time or money to have a special dress for the wedding (unless they were royalty) that they would only wear once. They typically had a few cloths that they wore everyday and one thing that was for more special occasions, such as going to church and big parties. The would be the dress they wore to their wedding as well.
I've picked a medieval Irish style dress. It is hunter green with gold in the sleeves and gold embroidery around the neck and hem. When we get it finished, I'll post a pick up here for everyone to see.

My dress is Champagne over gold satin. It is really beautiful. Personally, you can wear what ever you feel most comfortable in. I have had friends that have gotten married in everything from jeans and t-shirts and $10,000 hand beaded silk. I am one of those people who CAN NOT wear white. I look sick. Silver and Gold are the best for me. If you would like to shut up the people who are 'traditionalists' it was only recently (past 200 or 300 years I think, I would have to look it up again) that women began to wear white. 'Traditional' used to be Gold, Silver or Royal Blue/Purple. I say go with what you want.

I think if the dress is done well, color can be very pretty. Gwen Stefani's wedding dress was gorgeous with the gradation from white to pink. My dress is going to be ivory with royal blue accents. My corset will be laced with royal blue satin ribbon and there will be a little tiny royal blue satin ribbon bow on each side of the skirt. It's going to be gorgeous!

I've always wanted the traditional white dress but when I started trying them on, I noticed that the white washed me out. So, I tried on a dark Champagne colored dress & loved it! I ended up changing my mind on the dress but still wanted a warmer color so I went with Ivory with gold metallic stitching.

Mine is the popular Alfred Angelo style that is white with color. There is a Turquoise band around the front and it starts from the top every then and goes into the train in Turquoise. I love that it has color!
