There was just a program on 20/20 about vanity and women getting blotched plastic surgery in Costa Rica...coincidence?
I'm not against it, it's up to the person. For me it would be cost and pain!! I am a wimp about pain and I hate taking any kind of medication, even pain killers.
I lived in Brazil and my roommate had a breast reduction and lipo. Brazil is big on plastic surgery. They also do a great job too. They do more breast reductions than augmentations because in Brazil large breasts aren't considered attractive. My roommate never used to go to the beach before her surgery, and in Brazil going to the beach is a big part of the culture. She got more confident about her body. I don't think all non American plastic surgeons do a bad job, it's these programs like 20/20 that only show the bad cases that scares people into thinking all non-American doctors do horrible jobs. I'm thinking of going to the Philippines for dental work. I live in Guam and a lot of people do that, especially if they don't have insurance. It's about one third of the price, even crowns and cosmetic precedures. I will probably get whitening and veneers too, so that's a form of cosmetic procedures, I guess. If I lost 100 lbs and had a lot of loose skin, I'll probably get a tummy tuck, if I had the money and the courage. I have loose skin from losing just 25 lbs (I lost it over 15 years very slowly, like 2 or 3 lbs a year), and doing crunches isn't getting rid of it. I've lost my boobs from losing weight but for now I'm ok with it, who knows how I will feel when I get older though. Smaller boobs sag less! People spend tons of money on clothes to feel more attractive and feel good, what's wrong with spending it on plastic surgery?

| SUrgery of any kind scares the **** outta me because my dad had surgery a few times when i was a kid. I honestly don't know if i would do it or not. I wouldn't change my face, and I wouldn't get liposuction. I watch that show NIP/Tuck and so much of it creeps me out!

| No.....I love my body and face just the way it is and I thank God for my youthful look; and even as I age, I want to age gracefully.

I actually had no pre-surgery nerves or anything of the sort. I kinda *knew* it was right and was gonna work... and to be honest I could not be any happier!
It`s not the easy way out, but in some cases it would be the only way out, like for those that want a breast lift or tummy tuck, because no ammount of healthy living can make the skin revert to pre-stretching... Lots of products out there that claim they do, I hear, but none of them who can really do anything noticeable.
I hope everyone can find what is right for them! And for those who are interested but need more information, let`s look for it! Join the team "Plastic surgery" and maybe we can all teach each other about what we learn. :D

| I watch to many medical reality tv shows and the pain is probably worth it, if you can handle it, I say go for it, whatever makes you feel good about you,do it and like Kindermom says , the procedures are a lot less costlier now. Wish I could muster up the nerve to get the dreaded flab sliced off my fat belly.................... I,ll probably die with it still in place. I need more courage guys.

| Well, that's quite a range of opinions. To each their own. I hope the person that has the goal of 115 pounds if under 5 foot tall - what a hard weight to maintain healthily. But then again, I'm having trouble reaching my goal, so far be it for me to make an opinion. I think most people that want stomach work done are just wanting to see their hard work all the way to the end. Anybody losing over 100# will have a hard time getting the skin to bounce back. Good luck to all and how great to be just happy in our own skin, whatever it takes.

| I've had 5 kids, so ya, I'd love to have work done on my stomach. Although, when I'm down to 115lbs, I can almost stand to look at my stomach lol

| well I've always been against it, but if i need hanging skin removed when i reach my goal, I'll consider it.

| I had plastic surgery when I was about 4 for my ears. I don't really remember how I felt about; besides not enjoying wearing the heavy bandages.

I have two relatives who are very happy with the results of their plastic surgery. One had three very large children and her doctor recommended that she get the excess skins removed from her tummy. The other one had breasts that were very different in size. Initially she wore padding to increase the smaller one but then chose to reduce the larger one.
Costs are coming down for many procedures. Go for it!
| I'm curious too. I can live with the flaws God gave me, but I abused myself in a way God would not approve - I was a glutton. I would have surgery to remove the excess skin so I can see this journey fully. I will still have imperfections that I can live with, but can't live with this constant reminder of my old self. The cost is a huge factor and hope I can save up in due time. As far as pain - it's like childbirth - it will pass. I pray for a successful outcome.

Lots of plain no...
So could you elaborate in why? Do you fear the results would not be what you expect? Or is it expensive? Or do you oppose surgical procedures? Or have you heard horror stories???
I`m curious!

| HIHIHELLOBYE-- I would love to join your team! Where do I sign up?:)

| Thanks for the info and I'll check out the site, but yes, flying from the US would probably defeat the cost savings, plus the re-checks, etc. and living expenses while recooperating.

Hello again...
CAMILLETW, please share you experience with us! Come and take a look at the Plastic Surgery team. I know there is a lot of people that can benefit from what you have to say :D
About my surgery... I was living in Japan at the time, and I heard about Thailand because it was rather common for people to have breast enhancement surgeries there, given it`s such a lady-boy heaven... :p
Truth is I was very lucky, I found a great hospital with a very informative web page, that is internationally recognized: http://www.bumrungrad.com/
Their plastic surgeons are American Board Certified, I can personally recommend you to the one that did my surgery, he was really really nice, and very professional, and the care I got from the hospital was very nice. Beautiful room, even the food was rather good which was surprising.
I have only heard one case of a bad surgery in that hospital and it was performed by another doctor.
My doctor, for example had an incredible ammount of practical experience, being he did another 3 breast lifts, 4 lipos and a tummy tuck just the week he had my appointment.
Flying abroad, however, can be expensive so for some people it won`t be worth the difference. Do take a look at the page if you are interested, I`m always around to talk more :D

| I had a breast augmentation 2 years ago or so. Love the results!

| HIHELLO-where do you live? Going to another country sounds scarey. Tell me about it, though, I'd like to hear how you found out about it. How do you check out the credability of the doctors and hospital?

Cost are expensive, yes... but that also depends where you do it. I actually went to Thailand to have my surgery and, with 2 nights in a 5 star hospital, it was less than 1/3 American price :D
| I expect to need a tummy tuck whenever I reach goal, but doubt it will happen due to the cost. But who knows. I would personally be afraid of any surgery to my face, even though I have seen successful results.

Hi there
I also think that ageing naturally is not an issue, but I also understand that some things (like my sagging breasts after breastfeeding, etc) cannot be fixed naturally to look how I would want it... So I took off, had the surgery and, honestly... I cannot recommend it enough! It has made a huge difference on how I feel, how my clothes fit me, etc.
:D
| I agree with you, but unfortunately I abused my body and became over 100# overweight. Now, the real me is coming back, but the leftover skin is a terrible reminder of a sadder time. I am toned, but it's under the skin. I agree with aging naturally - therefore, my wrinkles don't bother me. You are fortunate you've never become extremely overweight and I'm sure it's because you worked hard to stay at a healthier weight.
| I am strongly against plastic surgery for myself; whoever else wants it, however, more power to you. I just like toning and shaping up naturally and have no problem with aging naturally.
