Hi KNOXVILLEGAL, The rotator cuff is the place where the ligaments and etc. hold the shoulder in place (not a medical description probably) but it hurts to lift your arm and it hurts all the time. The hospital and insurance say I can only stay that day. Last time it was over night since there is a drain and pain pump left in. Not too crazy about that but my dr. has been called on that for having his patients stay over night so I guess I will be coming home that day. Stairs are a problem to hold on to since they have your arm in a sling type thing that holds your arm tight to your body for 6 weeks and my stairs are for that side. I hate the down time. It is our busiest time of year. Well what can I say.....I'm a tough old German with more fences to climb and gates to open. I do intend to be still doing that when I am 85 God willing. Love this farm life..it is addicting. Thanks for the prayers...can never have too many of those. Happy Easter to you and everyone!

BIGDADAY, Thanks for the prayers. I live in a rural area so there is no pool. Yes the rotator surgery is a real challenge. I had it 1 1/2 years ago and the PT was not fun but I did very well. Just wish I didn't have to go through it again. Yes I plan on watching the calories. When a person is on pain meds you don't get too hungry. Maybe that will be the plus side to the surgery. I still have fences to climb and gates to open!

Hi,
I don't know what a rotator cuff is, but you aren't at a total loss regarding workouts. I do agree with Bigdaday that you need to do what the doctor tells you. You can also check out the fitness exercises on here to see what you can do without doing further damage. Perhaps sitting on the chair doing leg lifts. Not cardio, but you are still able to do some exercise and keep those muscles in shape.
How long will you be staying in the hospital? Can you get therapy while there? That to will give you some exercise. Perhaps going up and down a short flight of stairs (and make sure there is something to hold onto as well as someone there to help you if need be) can give you some cardio.
I will keep you in my prayers that everything will turn out well for you.

Flowerlady, I am goingto pray that the surgery goes just the way you plan. Look at it as another challenge you will really need to keep track of your food intake that is something you can control. Maybe walk in a pool. I know from other friends that everything with a shoulder healing hurts. Do what the Dr tells you too to get better quicker. Good Luck!

Need some help! I tore my rotator cuff for the second time in a year and half. Going in for surgery on 31st. I can't do my big ball exercise. Strength training is out with this shoulder. Getting really discouraged. Staying on track with diet but the exercise is nell. The darn scales isn't moving....need that cardio but can't cut it right now. Getting depressed about the down time the surgery will cause especially now that April and May are around the corner. They are my most favorite months since I have calves and lambs coming and plant over 100 flats of flowers. I think I need a good talking to. Anybody out there have a suggestion for coping right now?
