I, too was born in 1947. What a wonderful year. I was born late in the year and I was a month early. November 8th for me. My mother had a hard time with her pregnancies. My brother was a 6 month baby, he died just before he turned 7 as he was born with a soft backbone. My sister, a 7 month baby, and I are the only two in my family. She is 3 years older than me. Enough. 1947

Hi Ladies; hope I can join in.
I too was born in 1947, March of that year during a snowstorm so my mother had told me. They had no car and had to walk to the hospital. She said I was lucky that I wasn't born in a snowbank.
Maybe that's why I have never liked the cold. lol!
I was born and raised in Rome, NY
My husband and I now live in Wheatfield, NY (close to Niagara Falls and Buffalo)
Have 4 grown children and 11 grandchildren.
I have been on many diets and yo-yoed for many years.
This is my last go around and hope to get it right this time.

I just found out that this thread had a reply, so I hope you come back to read this. Bethel classes are an overview of the Bible, giving background and major themes of each book or group of books [for example, the major and minor prophets]. It says that the Bible's main theme is that God created us to be in relationship with Him, but that Adam and Eve broke that relationship and that Jesus came to restore it. It's an interdemoninational study, and it's very interesting.

What are Bethel classes? The word leaped out at me because I live in Mt. Bethel, PA.
Didnt start the day off right, had hot cross buns.
Last night we went out to dinner, we ate and drank too much, and when that happens, I slide very far off the mark.
Having to lose so much weight is daunting and I am a very impatient woman. That is my biggest problem.
When one is very heavy, one can lose some weight but no one notices.
I work with a woman who had gastric Bypass surgery in October. She also was close to 100 lbs overweight and she has lost 71 now. And people are JUST beginning to say "Oh, you are losing weight" Imagine.

As FlyLady recommends, I have shined my sink and am ready to head for bed, but I do want to encourage you to try finding comfort in the peace of tidy surroundings! That's MY plan! I think the "born again" illustration is a good one. I feel the same and always say I'm going to keep things tidy. But I don't. Not perfectly, but I am improving! Again, as FlyLady says, "Progress, not perfection!" I hope you have a good Sunday, with rest and relaxation and doing healthy things for your body and mind! And attending church if you are a church-goer. I find it helpful to remember Who made me and that I am here for a purpose! As we say in Bethel classes, we are "blessed to be a blessing!" I am glad we connected and hope we can continue to encourage each other! Good night! [OR Good Morning, depending on when you read this!]

Yes, I guess turning 60 is an eye opening experience. we become very aware of how much (or little) time may be left to us. My mom lived to be 97,but Dad died at 60, so who knows what is going to be given to me.
I have 2 grown married sons and a 19 year old daughter. 5 grandkids. My children and daughters in law gave me a lovely 60th birthday...the gift certificate for a massage, I still havent used yet.
Guess you and I are both Libras..I am Oct. 20.
I do believe that the clutter in my life affects me.
When I am able to clean out and clear up, I feel as if I am "born again". LIving in clutter, which I do since I work full time, have a pack rat husband and a very messy daughter, saps the life out of me.
Eating does seem to be my comfort.

Mine was October 12. My son and daughter-in-law took me to lunch with some of my DIL's friends whom I know also since I visit out there a lot. I was on my annual October visit to them in New York. They have two daughters, too, whose birthdays are in September and November, so I always go out there to celebrate all our BD's in October. My husband sent me flowers out there and had my DIL get me a Lands End twin set from Sears. All in all, it was a good birthday, but for the first time I am realizing I only have a relatively limited time left, even if I live to 90! That is making me re-evaluate my priorities and inspire me to take better care of myself! My mom is going to be 90 this year and hasn't been as active as she should have, and so now she is rather frail. I don't want that to be me!

As for FlyLady, she says that holding on to clutter around the house causes us to hold on to body clutter. That the "stuff" saps our emotional energy. I think she's right, and I am trying to "fling" a lot of stuff that has me living in the past and not the present! Check her out some more. I think her site, plus this one, will give you the boost you need for the next 30 years! ;-)

I checked the web site of FlyLady and it is an interesting one. Not only do I need to worry about body clutter, but house clutter as well. It makes sense, when there is chaos in my mind, it also is in my life.
So, when was your big 60th birthday?
Mine was in late October.
Lord, I had a hard time with it.
Did you do anything special?

Hi! I am a 1947 "baby" too! I remember twenty years ago I wanted to be "fit before forty." I didn't make it. I have gotten to goal at WW THREE times but couldn't seem to keep it off. [I now have about 85 pounds to lose.] Probably because I didn't address the WHY of overeating. The "body clutter" concept at www.flylady.net is really helping, though. Even though we have become what we didn't WANT to be, it's not to late! One of the former 3-hour-diet people is 72 and very upbeat and working on her weight issues, so we CAN do this! BTW, I travel to Fishkill,New York via Interstate 84 twice a year and used to live in Mt. Holly, New Jersey. It's a lovely area out there! I am now in Michigan. Anyway, best of luck and keep in touch!

We just turned the big 6-0...not an easy birthday.
When I was a young, thin woman, I would look at the older women who were heavy and think "Geez, that will never happen to me" Yeah right!
Live in eastern PA, right on the Delaware River.
Work in NJ.
and, sadly, have about 80 lbs to lose.
