SEW....I quite smoking 3 years ago (like Syb) and also find it's VERY difficult to stay on track, eat healthy, exercise a little each day, AND drink water which I hate! I live alone with Sissy, a loveable Lab mix I rescued 3 years ago and without a man or a room-mate to interact with, eating junk food is easy! Losing the weight gained from it is beyond difficult so I'm choosing the easy way out & eating healthy!
You might want to think about joining my group, "Can you post at LEAST once EVERY Day?" (or something similar.) It's usually right at the top of this group and we have a lot of fun keeping each other focused and accountable. There are about 8 women (all over 50) who are bound and determined to get fit and buff. Nancy and Toni are from Florida! Carol is down there enjoying a winter vacation from her home in Canada. I live in N.C., Jean lives in AZ, Jess lives in CA., Judy lives in Michigan (I think), JoAnn lives in Virginia, and Laura lives in Maine!
Have a great day and good luck.

Hi there! Well, we all have excuses. Trouble is that they are usually valid. It does drive me nuts that some older women are so thin. Genes? It's not fair. I'm almost 53, quit smoking 3 years ago, am on Tamoxifen (breast cancer survivor), had sudden menopause because of chemo, and then had a hysterectomy. It's a battle. Every single day, I do cardio and work on a body part for 1-1 1/2 hours. I eat right. My blood work is perfect. However, I don't like how I look. My resolution for this year was to accept myself--not to stop doing healthy things--but to accept me.
I went through so many changes at the age of 49 that it was too much for my head. I'm trying to slow down now and absorb it all. I'm one lucky girl and I need to appreciate that more and quit picking at myself.
Maybe you should quit picking at yourself too. You are over 65 and quit smoking. My husband and many of my friends are over 65. My husband quit smoking and did gain weight. Many of our friends desperately need to stop smoking. However, they gained weight without quitting. You are way ahead of the game!!! It's a major life change and you should kiss the mirror!
I'm a Master Gardener and grow lots of roses and volunteer in the community. I also love to knit. I've been taking care of my mother in the last year so have been busy.
Life is good, you know?

Hi..
It's just as 'they' say, when you quit smoking & are older it's more difficult to get & stay in shape. Plus I have real problems with staying with any kind of routine - even fun ones!
I must say I am grateful to have found this site as it comes into my mind when I want to quit or not eat properly ... like lots of people, I am able to override those reminders & be lazy or eat too much or the wrong thing - but still - life's not perfect!
So thanks to all of you who keep coming back - you're an inspiration to the rest of us!
I'm in sunny florida, love my photography and crafting and sewing, often combining the mediums for a fun time.
