Hi VICREG, I am sorry to hear about your brother, did everything go ok? I am an emotional eater also. I would like to hear from other emotional eaters, maybe you can give me some tips on overcoming.

| Hey, it worked. Today has been a bad day because my brother has been in surgery all day and I have nearly eaten myself to death waiting for the latest news. Obviously I'm an emotional eater!

Flutter .. I really don't think about 'all' I have to lose. I've been too busy with the recipes and Nutrition/Fitness..I don't have to think about it. Guess I'm learning to live more in the moment ?

hi turtle, grams, candy and all...
You can keep posting here, and those that have posted will probably get a notice that you posted, and then you might get visitors. you never know how busy or not busy the boards are.
you can also 'lurk' around on the threads, and when you think you found a group of people you relate to and want to join in...just hop in.
you can also go to teams, there are jillions of different kinds, by age, weight to lose, interests, hobbys, even religions. again...you can read all you want, then in teams, you have to join to write back.
hope that answers any questions you have.
also, start your sparkpage. You don't even have to know what you want to say, it can be a work in progress. but that way you can tell people what you want about yourself, start your ticker, and all sorts of things. Just share what you are comfortable with.
have fun getting healthy!

Welcome newones.. ;} Glad to have you along for the ride. I'm new too. Somebody said earlier, trial and error in learning the site. I'm still learning. lol But getting there and I'm really doing good with the eating so far. I'm taking it one day at a time and setting small goals as far as the weight loss. It's too overwhelming when I think of the total I need to loose. Good luck to you all ! Love ya' Flutterfli

i did ww too and lost 85 pounds 6 years ago and now have to deal ith all the weight i have gained. i didn't gain it all back but alot! i like the points but am trying this site and working with the points system because this site seems to be more interactive and interesting. they send you emails and stuff and that makes me check things out. so i agree with others that spending time on the computer trying to figure out this site is better than eating . i only joined 3 days agoa nd was doing well until my husband brought home half a pastrami sandwich from a deli a distance away because he was there on business. so i ate the meat , some cheese and the bread crus and 2 cookies...cold have been worse, could have been better. have been sick with a nasty cold since i started this so no exercise...but i think i will be ableto start again on friday.....i hope i can figure out how to get back to this area i woud love support from folks my age! thanks for listening to me ramble!

Hi To all the new people! I've been a part of SP since last fall. I've lost almost 20 lbs. with them and another 10 before that so I am PLEASED!. I've not gone to each of your Spark pages but if you haven't joined a team that's the best way to learn the site eventually. There's lots of motivation there and you have the place and usually the 'challenge' to track your food and nutrition. Tracking the food used to be the HARDEST thing for me....now it's 2nd nature. Now my challenge is exercising consistently. I, too, (as one of you mentioned) have arthritis and am limited in what I can do. I can only do my stationary bike right now........not even walking for any length of time is allowed. So learn those areas first and then join a team and just have fun. The more you post to someone else and give them encouragement...the more it comes back to YOU...That's the part of SP that I really like. If you have any questions, I"d be glad to answer them...either here or just send me a sparkmail. I wish you all well on your journey...it's going to be SPARKtacular!!! Good luck PL

Hi Ferret, thanks for the info etc. Yesterday I started back to my water exercise and it felt so good to get back in that pool !!! I'm taking it easy this week since it's been so long that I haven't been there. Next Monday I'll add the weight training back to my routine. I always do that first, then the pool. I did real good yesterday eating wise. Still learning my way around the site. Slow but sure. I hope your doing well, and if I can help, let me know. Have a great day and a good loss. Thanks again. Keep sparkling. Love ya', Futterfli

TMC. What helps me with cravings is eating often. Try to include a touch of protein, even during snacks. ( I like roasting a big package of chicken breasts with spices on them, then the cooked chicken can be used thoughout the next few days, on salads, even just an ounce or two, with an apple mid day. 'Fuel' snacks will power you up, try to get the 'empty' calories out of the house.
there are also tons of articles on snacks, high powered foods, all sorts of things in the nutrition section. dont be shy, take your time to find the resources and ideas.
So glad you found this site. Ferret.

ok...a good place to look is right above, you will see the tabs:
go to HEALTHY LIFESTYLE then when you put your curser on that it will pull down a list. see FITNESS when you open that, read the Fitness Overview, tab on the upper left.
Then, you will see lists of articles. TONS of them. Scroll down and you will see headers and one says "Special concerns" looks like lots of articles there regarding exercise when challenged.
Anything is better than nothing. If you have certain body parts that just won't cooperate, find a different area to work on. It's amazing, what people can accomplish, by even exercising on a chair.

| honestly, i think that that tracker is one of the most valueable tools on this site. Also, flutter i think mentioned being kind of exercise challenged. make sure you check out the tabs for exercise and fitness. I will go look and see if i can find a place. be back.

| Hi .. I'm new to this too. There is soooo much on the site. I find it easiest to go to 'my Spark Points' (drop down under TOOLS) and work my way thru that list. Then periodically go to TRACKERS and log what I've been eating/exercising. Anyone have another routine they use to touch the bases ???

| Aviary, I've been lurking here for 2 months and it seems there are a lot of us having problems with the exercise part. Arthrisis is a big problem for me. I am 57 and if I had known then what I know now I would have been kinder to my body. Does your therapist have any ideas or maybe some pamplets she can give you? Our local hospital has all kinds of informational booklets. I live in an area with a lot of retirees and the paper has all kinds of health expos advertised. We also have a senior center with a pool, water aroebics, maybe?

Hi- I just found this site. Seems fitting for me. I have been with SP for about a month now. Have lost 10# and feel better. My dilema is the exercise part. I have been going to physical therapy 2x/wk for the past few weeks. Having problems with my sciatic nerve and some bursitis in my hip. I try to use my execise bike, but that is about all for now. If I exert myself, I pay for it dearly. Very discouraging. Anyone else in this situation?

hey Barbie. you can do this one step at a time. and one healthy choice at a time.
I agree...the tracker is SO important. And it does get easier when you start to use your favorites and food groupings. Give it time...just keep doing it!
I do best when i follow the steps i list on my sparkpage regarding preparedness. Sets me up for success.
welcome. follow the steps that spark gives you, stick with it solid for 2 to 3 weeks...and i can almost guarantee that you will feel it, and have more energy and be wanting to keep going.
think lifestyle change...NOT diet. It takes time, to learn to do things differently than we have spent our whole lives doing. But we CAN learn new tricks.
I have quite literally saved my life. Still obese, but working on the next levels. you can do this. Think of all the reasons that you want to live. go for it. I am so glad you are here.
(be patient with your learning curve. you are not allowed to beat yourself up.)
ferret.

Hi, Barbie,
I'm not good at reading instructions, so trial and error were the best tools for me to learn to use the site. There are so many aspects to it, my favorite being the recipe calculator, which is what drew me here in the first place. Once you get your own foods and recipes into your favorites, it becomes much easier to use. Good luck.

| Hello everyone. It seems this might be the right group for me. I have about 200 lbs. to loose! I just started here 2 days ago and trying to learn my way around. It's a bit confusing. I need to do this for myself and get in good health and be able to live life ! I have lost so many times and gained it all back, PLUS !!! I hope this will be the place to help me. If I can help anybody else, don't hesitate to let me know. We probably all know what we should be doing and not doing. Helping each other is the only way. HAVE A GREAT DAY and a loss ! Love ya', Barbie
