Hi, everyone.
Things have been really hectic with work, home and church so I haven't been able to post here recently. Hope everything's going well with y'all.
Pam, congrats on losing the 3 pounds. I've kind of stalled for a couple of weeks. Had a scale malfunction so I bought a new one. Then of course it was reading higher than my old one (bummer) but the readings are more in line with the doctor's scale. But even adjusting for that, I haven't dropped anything for a couple of weeks. I'm hoping it's because I've been exercising and gaining some muscle. My weigh-in is tomorrow. I'll see how I do then.
Diane, 20 lbs in 6 weeks is a lot. Hope you can achieve it. But if it doesn't happen, don't lose momentum. Enjoy what weight you do lose. And maybe it will be enough to get in those clothes so you don't have to buy new ones.
Kathy, I had to laugh when you mentioned cemeteries. My daughter loves to go to a tiny little cemetery nearby for exactly the reasons you mentioned. She'll read, listen to music, and take naps. When something's bothering her, that's the first place she'll head if she can.
Gotta run. Just wanted to drop by and say hi. Y'all have a great weekend.
Pam

Hi Diane,
How's it going? I'm sure you can do this. Jen is right about driving to walk. That sounds pretty funny but sometimes it is the only way. I've driven to parks, bike paths, arenas, malls and even cemeteries to walk in a quiet and safe place (you can't beat a cemetery for peace and quiet). Is there a YMCA in your area? I have found a lot of support there. Several of the classes start at 6 AM. No matter what goes on the rest of the day, there is seldom appointments for that hour.
Good Luck. Let us know how you're doing.

Hi Diane!
Here's a few exercise suggestions:
Buy a few new tapes and videos to make a home workout more enjoyable. There is a thread in the Fitness forum called "Exercise Video/DVD Club" that might give you some good ideas.
Could you drive somewhere to walk that is safer?
Is there a gym in your area that you could join?
You can also do a lot of strength training at home with minimal equipment. For exercise ideas, you can check out the fitness plans in your Exercise Tracker.
Hope that helps!

Good Morning everyone. There are times when life flows exactly as you want it to. Then all of a sudden there is a log or large rock in the middle of my path. What choice do I have? Go around or over the obstacle. I found out that I will be attending a conference in October. Nothing fits, I will need a new set of clothes. Or I can drop 20 pounds and feel and look great. 20 pounds in 6 weeks, can I do this? Am I determined? What's the first step? Exercise is a must, right? I haven't done one thing in 10 days. I love walking, but where we live there are dog packs running loose and my husband said walking is not a good idea. I like aerobics, but what tapes and video's I have is not enjoyable and thus I don't do them. I'm going to have to come up with something. Anyone have any suggestions. Blessings Diane

Hi Kathy, Pam, Judy and Diane,
How is everyone today? I am better every day. Lost 3 pounds last night (2 weeks). I feel pretty good about that. Need to be sure to keep it up over the weekend.
Have a great one!

Hi Pam, Pam, Judy and Diane,
Just checking in. Things are running pretty par for the course this week. Have been having trouble getting to the Y and I really miss it. I'll have to see if I can rearrange some things to get that done.
Hope you are all well and enjoying the end of the summer. Keep cool and have a good weekend.

Good morning Pam, Kathy, Judy, Diane,
I hope everyone is having a good week. I feel better today. I, too, believe everything happends for a reason and things work out the way they are supposed to. A good friend of mine and I have been discussing the signs that you recieve when you pray. Some people don't see they answer they get, probably because it wasn't the one they wanted. We had to laugh about some of them because we have both had some rough times together and held each other up when needed over the last 14 years. We are now well aware of how prayers are answered and what to look for. She got some pretty good signs this week.
I hope health and well being comes to all of you.
Have a great rest of the week.

Diane-
We must be reading the same books. "Everything happens for a reason" and "Things work out the way they're supposed to": I can't tell you how many times I've said these-sometimes it seems like a chant. It really keeps me grounded and in the moment when things seem out of control.
It was good to hear from you. Good luck on the program. I really think it's great.
Much success.

Pam, I'm brand new to this program. I have been on several. Your statement, "if you continue doing what you have been doing, you will continue to get what you have right now." is one I use all the time. It you want change, you must do something different in your life. Not many people think or believe this. So we need to think out of the box for solutions to weight, income opportunities, family concerns. Not an easy task but one very worth while.
I work from home, live in paradise, and still have many challenges in my life. It was refreshing to see your words of wisdom.
Seize the day Diane "Everything in life happens for a reason" "All things will work out for the best in your life"

Hi Pam-
About that retirement plan. My husband plans to retire in a couple of years (we've been saying that for a couple of years.) We still have one kid in college and we need to get him off the payroll first. After he has retired and we see how the money situation goes, I may consider part time for awhile. I'm just not sure. It seems really appealing right now.
Things in my extended family life are not going too well. Mom is in an extended care facility after a bout of pneumonia and congestive heart failure, being really weak and having a really bad fall. We've been trying to get her strong enough to come home and it looked pretty good for the middle of this week, but now she is in congestive failure again. My brother-in-law is in the hospital with cancer and is in pretty bad shape. On top of all that there was a chemical company in our town that had a tank fire and our end of town had to be evacuated last Friday. I've never seen anything like this summer has been. It's just been unreal.
Thanks for keeping me in your thoughts.
Kathy

Hi, Kathy. You've been on my mind today so I thought I'd pop in and see how it's going. I read your profile. I'm 49 (to be 50 in January) with 2 grown kids (sometimes).
My daughter is 19 and my son will be 22 in a month.
30 years -- wow. Are you retired or still at it? I've worked for IBM 21 years and the last couple I've found myself thinking about doing other things. There was one day that I sat down and figured out when I could retire and survive on my retirement income. Looks like I have 6 more years to go. Oh well. At least by the time I retire I'll be in better health -- like when I first started with the company.
I'm keeping you in my prayers. But, I also want to let you know that under the Spark People Cafe heading, there's a thread called Praying Ladies & Gents. Any time you have a prayer request or praise, please consider posting there. There are some great prayer warriors there.
Hope you have a great evening.

Klutz,
I have been doing this since February and still try to track every day. I went to stage 3 a couple of weeks ago. My goal is to stay within all ranges for one week. Haven't made it yet but I will. I nver used to make time for myself because I had to much to do for everyone else. It is hard on you if you don't take that little bit of "selfish time". It is a need in life to do that. Otherwise, you can't keep up with he demands that other put on you. Makes me feel good to know that I am worth a few minutes of "me" time. It helps so much.

Hi Kathy, It is good to count your blessings in every situation. That isn't always easy but it is worthwhile.

Hi Pam,
Things are holding steady. I really think this summer will teach me the meaning of faith. I know I've really been relying on that more and more everyday. It's also taught me to be thankful for the things that give me strength and peace. That means so much.
Have a good day.
Kathy

Klutz,
Sounds like you have a good plan. I know what you mean about trying to take care of everything. There are lots of times when instead of turning to God first, I just rely on my own strength. I'm rarely very successful at it. And I suspect those times where I think I've handled it, it was really God stepping in for me.
Hope today was a good day for you.
Pam
PS -- I changed my username in case you were wondering.

Hi Jen,
Today was a better day. Getting back in exercise class makes a big difference and just back into the routine helps. I've decided to stay in Stage 3 and track daily. I think that will work best for me.
Pam-- Thanks for the prayers. They are always appreciated. I really think that's been part of my problem. I think I have to take care of everything and sometimes I really need to put things in God's hands (like they're not already there anyway). I'll just keep doing my best and let Him do the rest.
Thanks again.
Klutz

Klutz,
I'm glad to see you got so much support from your post! There is nothing wrong with going back to Stage 2 or tracking daily in Stage 3. Just do what works best for you.
Let us know if you need anything, and please keep us posted on how things are going! Hang in there!

Thanks Pam. I never realized message boards could be so supportive. Had a gain this week, but I feel more focused and re-committed.

Thank you all so much for your advice and prayers. I can use them both right now. Your suggests to take care of myself first really hits home. It seems a little selfish when we're trying to take care of others to put ourselves first, but I know I need to. I'm glad to hear other people in stage 3 still track everyday. I know that will help with the emotional eating. I've never really used the message boards before but this really seems to help. You are all so kind.
Thanks again for your kind words.

You certainly have a alot of stress at this time in your life and was thinking maybe you also need some kind of interest that you can loose yourself in for short periods to releive your stress.
I think making time for your food diary perhaps, will give you that little break you need to think of other things, taking you away from your stressful sitiations for a few moments each day, may really help!
Herbal bath soaks is relaxing and soothing for you skin and soul. Set aside time to do this for you and perhaps some relaxing music while soaking.

I'm sorry you are having a difficult time right now. Taking care of yourself is really important, especially when those around us are having problems. I think about how when we fly they remind us to put on our own oxygen mask before we try to help someone else with theirs.
I am on level 3 also and I still use the daily tracking. If you find it useful, I can think of no reason not to do it.
hugs, Judy

Klutz,
I'm so sorry that you are experiencing all of these problems. In light of all that you are going through right now, I can see why diet and exercise seem trivial. But as you stated (and obviously know), this is the time you really need to be working in exercise. It will help relieve stress.
About 5 weeks ago I entered stage 3 and I still track my food on a daily basis. In the stage 3 support group there have been questions and comments about this and Jen stated that if we still need to do daily tracking in stage 3, then go ahead and do it.
If there are other reasons you would like to go back to stage 2, that's no problem. From the "my home" page, top right corner, you can look at the different diet stages and switch. Be aware that if you do that, you will move to the beginning of stage 2.
I'll be praying for you.
Pam

| I've done so badly on the program recently. My parents (ages 81 and 84) have not been well, my dog died, my brother and brother-in-law have been diagnosed with cancer and I've been having problems finding the time to track my intake and exercise like I normally do. Sometimes it doesn't seem all that important. Logically I know it is and that I probably need to be extra careful now but emotionally I'm struggling. I changed from Level 2 to Level 3 and wish I hadn't. Can I go back to Level 2? Maybe the daily tracking would be better for me right now.
