Hi Brenda.

It looks like you lucked out and are still in good health. That's great. I started losing weight because my health had gone south. I'm impressed that when you are just starting out that you CAN walk a mile. It took me a long time to get into that good of shape.

One thing I've learned is that "diets" don't work. You need to make adjustments to your lifestyle. Things that you can do when you are not counting calories. Daily exercise is great. You won't be sorry that you are walking. Eating 1000 calories, now that's something different. Try doing a diet makeover with your health in mind. You should feel like you are pampering your body, not punishing it. I've added a lot of vegetables too my diet as well as lowfat dairy. I work on getting 25g of fiber, and meeting all my nutritional needs. Its helped! I'm off bp medications and my cholesterol is great. I feel better than I did when I was 40. I never thought I'd feel this good again.

Good luck

Believe it or not, you might not be eating enough food. If you eat too little, your body thinks it's starving & your metabolism slows down. Check with your doctor to see how many calories you should be eating for your size.

Also, if you eat a lot of carbs or salty foods, that can slow down your weight loss.

A healthy weight loss is 1/2 lb to 2 lbs per week. The amount you lose can change each week, and you might even gain a little. Just stick with your plan and don't give up.

No I haven't taken my measurements. That was something
I thought about today after my less than happy moment
on the scale. I did have good news today though. I went for my yearly physical today and my total cholestral was 196.My doctor said I was in good health for my age I just needed to lose weight. Which is what I'm trying to do.

Remember that you are NOT on a diet...diets usually are done in an off and on pattern and don't keep the weight off -- you are learning new ways of eating.

Have you actually taken your measurements ? You can lose inches without losing weight if you are gaining muscle while exercising.

I'm feeling this morning that I need some help. I feel like I may be doing something wrong since dieting success is something I seem not to be able
to obtain. My big reason for starting a diet this time is because a pair of slacks I tried on that used
to be fairly loose had started fitting ok. I got mad
that something that was too big had started to fit.
I started a lowfat diet one week ago. I have been eating a little over 1000 cal. a day, sometimes less.
I walked a mile fairly fast four times out of the week. A big improvement I noticed since stop drinking
diet soft drinks was that I haven't had to take on tums since then.I drink the amount of water I should have. Today I am depressed because I felt like I had
lost some weight because my stomach felt like it had
gone down some but when I stepped on the scale I had
lost one pound in a week. If it had been even two I
would have been excited. It hurts to know when you have been so good and haven't cheated that you only have lost one pound.I have set a first time goal to lose 25pds by 12.31.07. That seems so unatainable right now.
