| I was raised on a farm, where we ate our own beef and pork. It was a natural way to live, eating our own meat, fruit, and vegetables, preserving and canning our own fruit, etc. Now I buy all my food, and eat a lot less meat, but I choose not to give it up entirely.

Hello Maria,
I became a vegetarian the day I watched a film of how chickens where caged and how it was a likely potential for the inception of SARS infections. Further exploration of how animals are treated with hormones, antibiotics and steroids etc made me think of the connection between my extra weight and the consuming of these additives through eating their meat. I I studied nutrients in foods to assure a healthy balanced vegetarian diet and found many meat analog products where delicious and easy replacements for meat. I was raised by meat eating parents, my father even hunted wild game. So I guess the answer was fear started me on not eating any meat and the fact that on my healthy vegetarian diet I consistently lost 1-2 pounds every week until I reached my goal weight confirmed the wisdom of this choice for me. Thank you for asking!

| I guess just personal choice. I don't eat alot of meat but enjoy it and like varying the taste with different spices etc. I also agree that it's part of the way many of us grew up --- it was part of many meals.

Why do I eat meat, well first that is how I was raised, we ate chicken, fish, seafood, pork and little beef. However, when we were served meats as a child we were given just a tiny bit. I was born and raised in Belize, anyway, so I grew up eating meat but very little of it. So I can not eat red meat or pork if I wanted to. When I started the program on spark I decided to omit beef and pork from the diet, I eat chicken only twice a week and fish about 3 times.
Why don't you eat meat.' Maria

I would venture to guess the biggest reason I am a meat eater is that I was raised by other meat eaters in a family of meat loving eaters. I can't think of a single person in my extended family that is not a meat eater. And now I love to eat meat.(although I wouldn't be happy without all the fruits and veggies) Happy eating, Barb

| People ask me all the time why I don't eat meat so I thought it would be interesting to see why people DO eat meat.
