I understand your problem, I have a niece who is very talented and has the same problem. Sorry I really don't know what to suggest except that you should never stop believing in yourself and do not give your paintings away for free unless it is for charity...I have my own little business where I decoupage and paint on glass and I do have a similar problem with marketing so I will be following this thread. Thanks for sharing and I wish you the best.
Blessings,

P.S. Good ideas Devanso and Rebcca...I am a member of the Local Crafts Council and am occasionally invited to show my work at Fairs and Exhibitions. Helps with contacts and good exposure for future business.

Many people have trouble marketing themselves. Self worth and esteem and other baggage muddies everything up. What works for me is to become a sales person for an imagined friend. That friend is talented, dedicated, and really needs fair compensation for the service that is provided and I try to broker for that best friend...me!

How about juried Art Fairs? There are many high quality Art Fairs where you get local exposure and are often covered in the media.
You could also make slide submissions to galleries. I have also seen invitations for gallery submissions in newspapers.

| Hi! Along with my struggle to lose weight, I have never found a way to makret my paintings (on a commission basis )to galleries or even hang them in restaurants; I am getting occassional purchases from the friends in Paris and Ottawa who hang some, but I am too emotional about them to actually market them myself. How does one do this? I feel so frustrated with actually being bulemic about this hang up.I can sell anything else but my own painting;myself! It is paralyzing! When I am asked to donate paintings for Lion's club auctions or Kiwanis they sell for alot of money, and I receive acclaim, but I just cannot get around my own marketing. I feel too vulnerable. Suggestions???!anyone?
