Hi Winnipeg. I'm from BC (but orginally from Ontario). On my long weekend, I am going to an all day BBQ - celebration of one of my son's weddings. A challenge. However, I will watch when I eat, but also celebrate.
To you from Winnipeg, and Ontario, enjoy the holiday weekend!

Hi Ontario, I'm in Winnipeg, Manitoba and I'm also new to spark people.
Still learning how to navigate all around the site but I agree, it is an excellent place.
Have a great holiday weekend.

Hi Marigold, again welcome. I have been ask so may times "how do I do it?" No real big thing. I have changed the way I eat. NO DIETS I have changed to a healthier life-style. Basiclly I eat little meat, no red meat at all. Fish (mostly pacfic salmon) is my main "meat" some turkey and some chicken. Though I am not loosing as fast as I was, I am still pleased that every Tues when I weigh-in I am less than the week before. I am proud to say that since I started on my 53rd birthday, Dec 18 06 I have lost 47#. My goal is to be about 120# by my 54th birthday. How is that for a goal? I am not making it to the gym as ofter as I was, because I now work 6 to 7 days a week as a Vet clinic, doing everything from cleaning kennels to helping the Vets in surgery. So I ride my bike to work now, 10,miles each way, up and down hills. My legs are really getting strong.I also do yoga Every night to stretch before bed.
If I were going to give advice, this is what it would be: 1st BE SELFISH put yourself first. You should be loosing weight for YOU. If you had a DRs apt at 3:00 you would not show up there at 6:oo. Make time for excercise, and keep to that time.
2nd: indulge now and then. This DOES NOT HAVE TO BE FOOD. I put $2.OO in a jar for every lb I loose and then every 10 lbs I loose and keep it off for the next week I give myself some sort of treat. This week it was a new par of shoes for work. Last time it was lunch at some place I really love. Kept in budget, too.
3rd I keep track of everything that goes into my mouth!!!! Believe me it helps. Don't cheet (it was only gum or a small slice of cake).
4th Walk Even if it is only from the farthest parking space at the store. Try and get in 10,000 steps a day in.
5th and the most important BELIEVE IN YOUSELF Keep a journal. Every day/ night write 5 things that you did well or feel good about yourself. ( pretty eyes, nice feet(does anyone have that?), walked 1 mile for the first time, saw a beautifully flower. Anything. Love Youself no matter what. Even after that milkshake. Let it go. Put yourself first. No one can do this for you. I know you and everyone else can do this. I have been Fat for so long and I am doing it.
BELIVE AND IT SHALL BE.
I have rattled on to long I hope I helped you. Music and Laughter Always. Dru

Welcome! I'm from BC, but moved from Ontario 20 years ago. I joined in late Feb, but has just started reading and sending posts recently. Sparkpeople is the best thing I have found in ages - it provides the motivation and the information and supports that I need to make lots of lifestyle changes.
All the best to you.
