hi..constanly have back pain, i did have surgery about 10 years ago, i was 49 at the time..unfortunately it is something i now have to live with..i have tried everything...stretching does seem to be the best thing and abdominal exercising..several years ago i did loose about 20 lbs and recently decided to loose 10 more..it does help..i walk every day and do strength exercise..when walking get the best shoes you can, forget what they cost....it is well worth it..good luck..back pain is certainly no fun,but i have to make the best of it

Hi Minnabun,
yes I have the same thing, hurts all the time, I am afraid to have surgery for fear it will complicate things, so I have learned what I can do and can't do. stretching helps! I wish you well, and hey thanks for taking time to reply, I loce this site so far.
Hugs from Maine, Holly

Hi Holly,
I too found SparkPeople just yesterday thanks to my sister. I have been inactive all winter and put on some unwanted pounds that I need to shed. I have a herniated disk in my lower back so I hurt constantly. Going to therapy for months now and was told no walking, no exercise basically as everything seems to hurt my lower back.. . but I have been going on the treadmill, not too fast and not inclining and will go out for a walk now and then weather permitting. Seems putting a heating pad on my back while resting helps alot. I need to lose weight and dieting doesn't do the trick alone. Keep on walking but take it easy! Maybe other members will give us some advice on burning calories without being in pain! Any advice is appreciated!

Yesterday was the first day of the rest of my life, I found sparkpeople and I am thrilled. I am over 50 have a new husband, first one hurt me alot, I have been inactive all winter, gained weight, and want to loose, went for my first walk yesterday and with an old back injury I hurt, but I rested, realized I was not 30, and kept on, today I will do it again. Wish me luck!!
