Hey, "Bairn, Lucky you able to get out in the yard. I had planned on last weekend, but the weather turned miserable again, so couldn't. Your Easter egg hunt sounds like fun! The little ones are the cutest anyway!
the pollen is really bad here also. My eyes itch and I'm sneezing enough for about 10 people!
Actually, your weight oming off slowly but surely Is probably the best way. Should learn enought o keep it off!
I still haven't gotten my ancestors back to Scotland, but it is a time consuming project, but i have patience sooooo..... Very interestingly, I have gotten some offshoots to Ireland and Wales as well as England (I already knew about those.)
Must go back to work, but at least it's Friday! Bonnie

Hey Bonnie, Sorry, been super busy trying to get my yard in shape to have an Easter Egg hunt here for several friends kids this Sunday. It has been really nice here but allergies are doing me in! The yard is almost ready, my son is going to come over Saturday and do the weedeater thing for me and then I think I will say good enough. I can't wait, I think it will be so much fun, the children are all fairly small, the oldest ones are around 5; I have been shopping and stuffing eggs for weeks now.
The beautiful weather has me thinking summer fun now and wanting to plan cookouts, etc. I love to entertain now that I finally have my own place again. The yard work has proven to be good exercise, I am losing about a pound a week. At first I was a little disapointed but then I did a rethink and I'm trying to think looooonnng term, if it comes off slow hopefully it will stay off!
My oldest sister has done quite a bit of genealogy study for our family, turns out my Mom and Dad were like 12th cousins or something so when we go back that far we only have one branch to trace! My family is mostly Scots-Irish from the Southern part of the U.S., North Carolina primarily with a little Virginia in there. My aunt and my sister both have traced our tree back to Mary Queen of Scots. My mother always told me that her aunt told her and her sister when they were small to "Hold your head high children, you have royal blood." LOL Glad none of our family succumbed to Mary's fate! I saw a movie this weekend called Mrs Brown about Queen Victoria II and her loyal servant John Brown who was a Scottish highlander. Judi Dench played the Queen and Billy Conolly played John Brown. It was a good movie and piqued my interest in history to the point where I spent some time online reading about Queen Victoria II and her family. Very interesting stuff.
Okay, well I had best get on with things here, hope you are doing well.
Hope things are going well with you,
Monalynn

Jeannie, Bairn, how are things going?
Haven't had much luck with gardening yet as our weather turned cold and yucky again.
I really want to trace my lineage on the Scots side.
I did my mother's (English) and got all the way back to the 1100's and royalty!!! I can't remember if I hit a dead end or just ran out of time to mess with the computer!!! What's that "old age" thing-eh???
Be blessed, Bonnie

I like your garden ideas Bairn, I bought my "new" to me house two years agao, and it was almost a blank canvas, but I have been adding slowly but surely. My project this spring is to put in a patio off my deck (less lawn to mow!! LOL) I want a space to put a table and an umbrella. Ideally I'd like a gazebo, but probably won't have the money for it this year. We'll see how saving my pennies go!
Have a good week, Bonnie

Hi Jeanie and Bonnie,
Jeannie, sorry to hear you have been ill, glad you are feeling better, I will get a spark mail off to you today.
Bonnie, you sound like a woman after my own heart, planting flowers! Flowers are the way I reward myself in life! I just bought a new (new to me anyway) house last Spring and I gave myself a year to see what came up with each season that was already here and now this year I am going to landscape my front and back yards as money allows. I want to design a garden in flowers that will memorialize my present and future dogs. I have named all but two of my dogs for flowers or herbs, Thistle,Piper, Bluebell, Jubilee and Coire (Coriander) and I have managed to find plants for both Piper (pepper plant) and Jubilee (honeysuckle) with Latin names that have their names. So...I am working on a design plan that contains both an herb garden and flowers on one side of my yard and I can include small stones with their names on them. I have wanted to do this for years, I still miss all my previous dogs, they become such a part of you.
Okay, I'm rambling now, glad your daughter came to your son's birthday event, kids.....I have two sons that are currently at odds so I understand completely. I told them the other day they were going to regret these years of not speaking, life is too short to hold any grudges!
I love your name Bonnie, I bet if you looked hard enough you could trace your family back to Scotland, my sister spent years but she did it for us all the way back to Mary Queen of Scots. For me it has always been a feeling, I hear pipes and the hair on my neck stands up (in a good way!) I choke up when I hear Scotland the Brave, it's like I need to go home there. I will get there one of these days, it's getting closer, just waiting for that flat money to pile up a wee bit more.
Hope you both have a grand day,
Monalynn

Hi Jeannie, I started my gardening today-I bought primroses and pansies, but it was cold and rainy so only got so far as putting them where I want to plant them!!!
I read a lot, too, although in spurts. I crochet, so have been doing that more laely. I have been making prayer shawls for church. They are given to our homebound members, or people going through grief or a serious illness.
I have two children who live very close by-both in Portland, Oregon. I live in the burbs just outside Portland. My son's birthday was today (the 10th). We went to lunch at a Thai restaurant. We had a lovely time, and the food was very good. Son, Joel is the oldest-29. His sister, Nancy is 25, She came to lunch too, which was special since she is mad at her brother, so nice to see her put her grudge aside.
I'm going to look you up on a map. When I did family geneology I couldn't get us back to Scotland, but there may have been a name change. Our family name in US is Cowden.
Have a blessed Sabbath, Bonnie Jean

Hey, I would love to be your buddy, I am fairly new here. I live in the states but my heart is in Scotland even though I have never been there. There is something that truly draws me there and someday (hopefully very soon!) I will go there.
I hosted my first Burns night this year, we had a blast and I can't wait to do it again next year.
I would love to e-mail and we could keep each other on track, I am determined to lose weight so that when I do get to your wonderful country I will be able to hike and really see it.

Welcome to SP, Jeannie, and it is good to hear from someone in the homeland. My branch of the Wier clan came to the states in 1795, but my ancestors are with me always. If you need help with anything you can use Sparkmail to send a private message. I certainly do not know everything, but I can lend support and sometimes advice. Peace. James

Welcome Jeannie,
To quote from another post (on another forum) "First, please don't use all caps. They are difficult to read, and most people view it as shouting. ;) I don't want someone to assume that you are being rude when you aren't ya know? :)"
You can click on the tab that says "SparkTeams" and find groups where you can find friends with things in common and of interest to you. You may even find an email buddy.
Best of success to you! on your progress already!
