I have a friend living with me just now. She is a great cook. She has posted a few recipe on a new Spark People site called sparkrecipes.com. She has posted a tilapia with fire roasted Tomatoes recipe, a pie recipe, and a rotini with chicken sausage recipe, among others. She posts under the name rosepurr. I recommend her recipes. BTW, the fire roasted Tomatoes are a brand called Muir Glen at Meijers. The chicken sausage with spinach and asaigo cheese come from Sams. We are not adventurous enough to make those from scratch.

Hi all
As soon as I finish lunch I am going out for a walk. Tonite I also have aquafit. Let us hope that all this exercise will have a healthy benefit.
Yesterday, I made a light chicken pot pie that only has 310 calories in it. Instead of the roue... you use cream of mushroom soup. It was great. And instead of the pie crust.... you don't put one on the bottom but I used phyllo pastry and it tasted delicious. Anyone out there have any other recipes that they could share that are below or around 300 calories per.
Being diabetic and a bunch of other things.... you really need to count at these pesky little nutrients and stuff.
Have a great day and enjoy the sunshine...

You are all so right. I have 3 sets of clothes in my closet: the fat ones, the skinny one and the current ones. Question is: the fat ones are still in good condition. I hate to throw them away, but I don't ever want to fit into them again either. (Actually, the one skinny thing I have: is a beautiful, black suede dress, size 10.) Do you think I can do it? I hope so. My current size is 14, but I was bordering on a 16 just a few months ago. Not good, but getting better.

I have older, smaller clothes. As I lose weight, I keep thinking I will be able to wear them again, but they are out of style. As I get smaller, I will want things that are more up-to-date. If you really think you will wear them, keep smaller clother. If not get rid of them. Get rid of bigger clothes to encourage you not to gain the weight back.

Hi everyone
Have been with SP for a month now and have lost 10lbs. Please help me never to find it again.
I can relate to what you say about the pants. I have in my closet boxes labeled size 12, 14, 16, and 18. Should I get rid of the lower sizes as they seem to be taking up real estate space in the closet?
It is raining here in Windsor, Ontario, Canada but I just got my walking in before the rain came.
Have a fanbulous day

I find it so hard to get rid of good clothes. I always think i will wear them again someday. You go girl Maybe I can follow your lead.

My goal for today - slacks (or pants - whatever you want to call them). I'm going to try on every pair of pants in my closet and every pair that makes me look like I'm smuggling loaves of bread goes into the Goodwill bag! (They are a tad baggy!) I've been putting off this chore - just in case - but there is no going back now!
What are you doing to encourage yourself today?? Jayel

Tonight's the night Marztdotes...we're rooting for you. I'll be checking this topic first thing tomorrow morning to see how you did!
Can't wait to see that little scale sliding down the chart.

|
| Hi all! I've been at SP since Oct '06. SP and all its tools and information is helping to change my life. I think tracking what I put in my mouth and recording my exercise is what's making a difference for me. I'm wearing 4 sizes smaller and I'm on the verge on going another size smaller. Thank you SP!
|
|
|
|
| Yes, you're absolutely right about home scales. Tomorrow night the truth will be told. Wish me luck!
|
|
|
|
I love the name too! In fact, I find myself singing it whenever I see a post from you. Those home scales are a pain - and too deceptive! I would get on the scale, get off and get on again. The difference was as much as 4 pounds! Pretty frustrating when you're looking for motivation! My reward for the first 10 pounds off was to buy a new scale - Ahhhh! I still only weigh myself once a week, but at least I can SEE the progress.

Thanks DaughterofPearl, but I just found out last night that I don't weigh in until NEXT Thurs., 3/8. Shucks! I really don't want to weigh myself at home since my scale is inaccurate and off about 6 lbs. Yes, I DO remember the song that goes w/my ID. (We're really dating ourselves now, lol.) Congrats on losing 10 lbs. Keep up the good work. I love it here and between this, Curves and the Zone diet, hopefully I'll start seeing some results. Keep in touch and Happy Weekend!

Marzdotes, cute ID. I wonder how many remember the song it comes from. I weigh once a week on Friday mornings. I have been on SP for a month and have lost almost 10 lbs. The loss is almost entirely due to diet. Health has kept me from really working on the exercise portion. That is my goal for March. Good luck on your weigh-in.
|
|
|
|
Just got your message, DaughterofPearl and was just about to tell you how to do it when I see that you found it. My weight has been posted the same since I joined on 2/12; however, I get weighed in on Saturday and hopefully, I can then record a change. Hope it's a decrease!

| Yes, yes, yes. It's all about what you eat and writing it down. If I don't do that, I'll stuff anything in my mouth, hence: weight gain. At least I don't have to walk around w/that pad & pen anymore! SP makes it soooo easy.

| I am not exactly new, but I am certainly over 55. I have not been using SP for many months. As a result, my clothes are getting tighter. I haven't had the nerve to weigh myself yet, but I am sure it is not good. Guess I better get busy and start recording my meals and exercise again. Cheri

The nice thing is that SOMEONE always knows the answer...

Right DEEJAY, You can put any portion. .25, .5. 1.5, whatever and you can go back and change the one you put in for the bagel.

In the amount area, put .5 instead of 1. I haven't tried this with bagels, but did for a banana and it worked for that.

| Speaking about trackers. This morning I ate 1/2 of a bagel but I noticed there was nothing on the food tracker that said 1/2. What do you do then? I had to put the whole bagel in but I'll just have to remember that I only ate half. Any advice?

Actually, you can. On the Nutrition page there is a weekly progress chart under the meal plans. You can add fiber (and a bunch of other things to that chart if you want to.
At the top of the page, click "Change Diet Goals". You can put in lots of other info if you want to, but the nutrition tracking is on the 4th page (just keep clicking on continue). When you get to that 4th page, click on "add another nutrient to track" and choose what you want. From then on, that will be added to the chart.
That should help you see where you stand everyday. Good luck and let us know if you have any problems setting it up.

| Yes, I like the food counter, however, I wish it also counter the fiber. I need to eat at least 30 grams a day. It would be nice if it were counted in the daily record.

| The food counter is great b/c it breaks everything down for you. I've always wanted to know how many carbs, protein, and fat I needed to lose or even maintain for that matter. It's amazing how we torture our bodies sometimes with eating all the 'wrong' things. Healthier food is my objective for now and the future.

Yeah...the nice thing is that you can do as little or as mich as you want...or need. When I first started, I only used the meal planner and the strength and cardio pages. As I moved through the program (and started to get the urge to give up - again) I started to take advantage of some of the other features - articles and recipes. About two months ago I discovered the message boards....WOW, what a boost! This month, I finally made my own spark page. The nice thing about spark is, the more you need, the more they have to give. And....as I said before....it's really hard to use the keyboard and eat at the same time. Stick with us WITSEND2...Help and be helped...and we'll ALL make it!

It looks like this program needs alot of computer time, to post, to read, to learn, and just find your way around. It's confusing at first, but I'm planning to stick to it, till it's like 2nd nature. Thanks fo the encouragement!

| I know exactly what you're saying Witsend2. I couldn't believe how much I was eating until I entered it into the food planner! My computer crashed and I was without one for a awhile. I'm so glad that I can once again start tracking my food and be on track with everything else SP offers.
|
|
|
|
I think I'm eating well, then when I enter in the food to my planner, I'm shocked at the calorie counter!!!! It's hard to enter in exactly what I eat since the amounts aren't always what is posted. But I still now realize that even though what I've choosen to eat is healthy, I still eat too much of it.

Mrs.Leftie,
Distract and plan. Distract yourself with activities like message boards, crafts, reading. Plan smacks. Check out the calories before you buy. Skinny Cows, lite popcorn. Whatever will satisfy without starting a binge.

Guildlady,
Don't think of it as dreadful. Start slow. Work to get certain areas in control. Then move on to others. I spend the first 2 weeks just learning the system and putting using the diet log. I didn't necessary mean to cut back, I just wanted to learn to keep track. I found that just putting it down made me cut back naturally. I'm now starting my 4th week. Really working on the diet now, but I have quite a ways to go on the exercise. Right now the journey is more important than the destination.

| Hi I am Don and I am from Vermont and I stumbled across SP through a health incentive program from my employer. I am having fun while losing weight and although I still have a ways to go there is no reason why I cannot achieve it with all that this web site has to offer, especially the motivation from the users. Hang in there everybody and with time and patience we will all reach our goals. My two daughters and my grandchildren along with my wife are all the motivation I need. My wife is also a member and has her goals and between us we will reach those goals.

I hear ya! I have been yo-yo dieting most of my life. From a chubby kid, to a 'solid' teenager, to an overweight adult. It never ends, does it? But as you get older, you realize it's just not those skinny clothes you want to get into, it's all about staying healthy. Think positive. This is the year we will do it!

| Take up knitting or crocheting. It keeps me from the 'munchies' at night. Or drink a cup of tea or water. That fills me up too. I just bought Jello 100 calorie pudding cups. They're pretty good and low in fat/carbs.

Welcome Newbees! I've been on spark for almost 8 months - feel like an old-timer, but I'm still working hard to change old habits. On the nighttime snack thing though, I think I'm slowly getting a handle on it. The problem is that it takes a little preparation. For the salty needs, buy some Natural Cheetos (you can eat 32 of them for 150 calories). Problem is, you can't count them while you eat 'em - too easy to cheat and demolish the whole bag. Count them out ahead of time and put them in a baggie. At night, just grab one (or should I say grab JUST one) and munch away. Plain popcorn works too, but it just doesn't taste as good to me.
For sweets, you have to take the time to slice up an apple - as thin as you can so you can keep the bag to mouth habbit satisfied. Dried or other fresh fruit works too. I did snap peas for a whole week.
Be creative, but check with spark when you try something new. Some things that look innocent and healthy carry a huge wallop - a cup of trail mix can kill your calorie count - and one tiny chocolate bar - OH MY!!
You can do this though - the spark site and all these terriffic people will help you through it - this 8 months is the longest I've ever been wit a program in my life - and I'm here for the duration!

Yes, Rebcca. Old habits ARE hard to break! I wear blinders now when I stroll down the cookie aisle. I'm forever looking for snacks that are healthy instead of the usual junk food I used to eat. But you get used to it after a while. Just keep thinking of the end result: a new, skinnier, healthier YOU! Summer is coming and I want to look nice in those capris.

I'm new as well, 55 with over 100 lbs. to loose. I have great hopes for this plan. I really like the control and recognize the accountability that comes with it. Good luck.
