Hi everyone, Just reading through the posts here. I think I kinda needed to. Annie I stayed with my ex for 18 years for the kids. They asked me why so long to except the youngest. Funny how we think we are doing the right thing. I read the post about writing down 5 good things about yourself. I sat here for a few minutes trying to do that. I can't think of 5 good things about myself. Having a little trouble coming up with one. I am not looking for sympathy in saying that, I just don't know of anything I do well, anything about me that is commendable. Others may see things, but I don't see them in myself. I guess that is a problem. My best quality is that I will drop anything to help someone, and that really can be a problem. Have to give it some thought, thanks for the idea. Diane

I think most of us spend our lives thinking of others first .... our husbands, children, grand-children ..... it's a hard habit to get out of! Myself? 2 years ago I finished a 32 year marriage that I should have walked away from 15 years before but I stayed for my children, thinking they were better off with a 2-parent family. Now my boys tell me they wondered why I hadn't left before!!! I am finally getting my act together - I want to be at a healthy weight and my back and stomach muscles working correctly by the time I'm 60 and if that means being "selfish" then so be it. Summer's coming...... yeah Annie

Thanks, It has taken me a lot of years to conclude I am not in this world to put everyone first and me last. I know it sounds selfish, but I HAVE TO PUT ME FIRST. As Dr. Phil says: "If Momma's not happy nobody's happy" Well my kids are in collage now and I AM PUTTING MYSELF FIRST. Hubby is not real pleased but to bad. I go to the gym 6 days a week, walk my dog 2hrs a day at the park (except last night - 8 with wind chill),and do yoga before bed every night. I am down over 20# and having a blast! Good luck to all and keep you spirits up. Dru

Annie, You need to love yourself any way you are. With a positive out-look you CAN DO ANYTHING. When I turned 53 last Dec I desided I was going to make a lot of life changes. Only one was weight. Do this every night before you go to bed write in a tablet 5, yes 5, good things about you and make one about your body. You can do this and before you know it you will love yourself. I know you are a good person and we have never met. See there is your first good thing about you...Friendly. Try it you will see. Music and Laughter Always Dru

yeah, I sort of know that but .... right now I have no love for my body and I need to get that back. I plan on losing between 2 and 4 lbs a month and as the weight comes off I'll be able to do more physically. It really is a double edged sword isn't it .........

Don't try and rush it, slow and steady really is the best way. You will get there and feel better. I tried to rush it at first, but got hurt, now I push myself just a little more every day and am doing great. You will too. Dru

I have 16lbs to lose to feel better, move easier etc. etc. I'm finding it so much harder now (my knees hate going down stairs, my back complains at having to do anything and I get tired before I've even begun). I walk on a treadmill in winter (intermittently) and outside in the summer ..... I am just beginning to do other exercises like wall push ups etc. This summer I want to learn to kayak, and I want to be able to walk 5 miles comfortably. The summer after that I want to go on a real hike. I will be 60 in December - I am not going into my 6th decade gently ..... I want to hit it running !! Annie
