HI Mel, well I lost most all of my weight, after my daughters wedding but did have alot of it gone before, I was losing it slowly, I worked out everyday for 3 years. Over the past 5 months I have put some back on, but I have had 4 surgeries since Dec. So it has been difficult. But hopefully I will be able to work out soon again. I don't know for how long but for a while. I have been told another surgery is pending. So I am tired of doctors and tired of not working out. But hopefully that will change. I am a good willpower woman, really I am. So if you want I will be there for you with willpower to move you through but you may not like how good my willpower is. lol. I am so glad that you jumped on board Mel. So were do you live? It will be a while before the babies. Do you have any other children?
What colors did your daughter have? What kind of decortations did you have? You have a lot that you can talk about. Blessings, Diana

Hello Karen!!!!! Long time no hear? Glad to hear from you, well many many things have been changing in my life as well, my daughter and husband had a baby boy 7 weeks ago, my son and his wife had a baby boy 11 weeks ago. wow it sure doesn't take long for our families to change does it?
I haven't talked about my health issues as well some on the team didn't like it, so I have refrained from it, so well if you want to know then send me a private email, OK? I will send you the details back.
I am so sorry to hear about your husbands permanent lay off, my brother in law was as well after 29 years of service to the company, he finally retired without the company giving him even his vacation pay. With him having to retire his wife had to retire in order for them to have insurance, boy it is terrible when you work your entire life and then have things taken out from under you. I know my business has shrunk big time, and with the cost of gas, I can't really afford to drive to give lessons. So I am going to try and pick up new students for fall if not I will have to consolidate again. And pick up more work somehow. Blessings Diana p.s. give those grands hugs OK?

Libr@ryl@dy, hello! haven't heard from you in such a long time I have been wondering how you are?
So what did you end up teaching?
Things are tough for teachers aren't they, I have been still plugging away for my teachers certificate, but I am still wondering if it is the right choice, I love teaching but well all my friends say you need to really think about it as things are so much different now you cannot teach the way you want to teach you are very very restricted at this point in time. So I do have quite a bit of background in business, so business administration is within reach as is pshycology, and social sciences and I am doing actually ok in my math classes I was suprised but happy. Talk to you later. Blessings, Diana

Jackie hello again, how are you? how is Lee? How is your hubby? well your life is about to change and you won't believe how wonderful it is being a grandma, we had our youngest this morning to watch. She is so cute, we just love them, but this double duty stuff I am not sure of. 2 quilts and knitted sweater sets, and blanket making curtains when they get a house. Shower to help give. I am trying to do almost the same amount for both babies even though my daughter in law has had 2 other babies.
That is hard though.
How does your husband feel about becoming a grandpa? Maybe he will get his boy? who knows the important thing is that the baby be healthy.
Talk to you later. Blesings to you , Diana p.s. some things are getting a little strange here at sparks and some of the threads are being shut down by sparks, which if there isn't any more action here I expect that might happen to this one. Maybe I will start another one call it Mother of the bride after the wedding and now baby! Who knows but I do enjoy talking and sharing with you. Send a note when you have a minute OK.

Jackie Congratulations!!!!!!!!! that is wonderful!
My daughter will find out what she is having on friday, our son and his wife are having a boy, and boy is my son on top of the world. WE had our greandaughters tonight while mom and dad went to a movie. The youngest said I'm mad at you, I looked at her and asked why? She said well because my mom woke me up early this morning when she got ready for work! I told her that if she stayed in her own bed then that wouldn't happen, she took pleasure informing about her Madness! kids say the darndest things. YOu will really enjoy being a grandma you can spoil them rotten and give them back.
I have been out of town since Tues just got home tonight and watched the grandaughters as soon as we returned home. Hubby suprised me as he flew in on wed evening and stayed at the hotel with me that was a good thing we really haven't seen each other much in the past few months like well 3 days in the last almost 4 months but that is ok I am thankful that my husband has a job as here in Michigan is is the worst as in unemployment and mortgage forclosures and welfare, really, I do pray that our son does not get laid off as the baby is coming and if he does then the baby nor his wife will be covered that sure worries me. So far so good though.
So good to hear from you Jackie and with such good news. Blessings, Diana

Hello there!
I haven't been around lately - for all sorts of reasons. Diana, once again you amaze me - where do you get the strength for doing all those quilts. they do sound lovely though. Anyway, I too have some news! My younger daughter, Lee, is pregnant! Which means that my status is about to be changed and I am about to be a grandmother!!! Its still at the big secret stage, but is getting very hard not to tell anyone. She is only in her 2nd month - baby is due 31 May!! Very exciting!
My son is going to the UK for a few months on Friday - so I will really be on my own! At least I'll have more time for sparkpeople - there wont be anyone else wanting to use the computer!
Anyway, hope y ou are all keeping well,
Jackie

Hello all, I just wanted to touch base with you all asa I haven't in a while I do hope that you are all doing well.
Our weather here in Michigan has been record breaking it has been in the 90's for the past 2 days, that is really strange for Michigan.
MY husband just left for the airport again to go to Baltimore Maryland, he just flew in yesterday and back he goes today.
I will find out what one of my grandchildren will be on Tuesdya [the new ones in the oven] then a week from friday my daughter will find out what she is having as well. so that means work work work. I need to get started on some crib quilts but want to know what they are having and actually what the moms want in the rooms, the last one I just found out what colors that she was going to have and went from there. d-i-l loved it actually more than anything that I made, I also wove a full sized cradle which was the hardest project by far and then I knitted 4 sweaters and another outfit, several of which she never put on her and if you are familiar with knitting I did these on size 0 knitting needles. very small and intricate but I don't think my d-i-l liked them, which kind of hurt my feelings but that is ok, just as long as I don't find out that she gave them away or threw them out or sold them at a garage sale as I used very fine imported yarns and threads and beads. I would prefer to have them back and maybe a grandchild would like them for their child.
Well better go. Oh the weather is going to go down to normal ranges on wed or thurs so from 90's to 60's over night we will all be freezing,
I will be out of town from tuesday - sat.
I have been having some troubles for the past few weeks so that is why you haven't heard from me. Currently I am doctoring a broken tailbone! Not fun.
I also had both of my cars die on me both on the same day and within 5 hours of each other and that was the same day that I fell and broke my tailbone. So I don't want anymore of those days anytime soon.
Blessings,Diana p.s. take care.

Hello everyone, hope this finds you all doing well. I haven't been on for awhile I haven't felt to well but that is beside the point but I have experienced a very bad week, both of our vehicles died on Monday both of them, the truck they are trying to fix but the car the engine died. This happened on my way to college, with both of them and within 5 hours of one another. I know I don't believe it either but it happened. Then when they gave me a ride home I fell on our slate tile in our entryway of our home. Well that hurt but it kept hurting well I broke my tailbone, So I guess I will be in misery for a long time but I am going to quit complaining. Like I said I can't believe this happened and is still happening, but it is. Now I hope that we can find something that we can afford the payments on. WE were hoping that the car was going to last at least another 2 years. But it isn't and no sense of talking about it. Sorry again for complaining I told myself that I wouldn't do that anymore.
The art show went pretty good for Michigan as we are in bad shape, real bad shape, So all in all that went well. Talk to you all later. Blessings to all, Diana

Claudia, hello, well I have a doctors appointment tomorrow and should know something but probably will have to have a cat scan, I sometimes just don't understand why I have to go through all the extra tests. Whatever it is I will along with God deal with it as I have put all of this in Gods hands.
School well I don't know that I really like my one professor, he just sat up there and talked, about mostly everything but Micro Economics. He also picked a book that cost me 290. that is just rediculous. Then he went on to say well you cannot miss any classes, I wanted to talk to him about my situation which is different than most. I do not like to miss any school but last spring I had to miss almost 6 weeks, but I did remain on the dean's list and have kept a 4.0 gpa.which is difficult. He acted like I wasn't talking to him I was talking to the wall or something. I didn't like that. I talked to someone that had him before and they said he doesn't teach he stands up there and talks, and expects you to just read the material and take the tests. I do better by doing so this is a bit upsetting, he is just collecting his money from talking and he probably has a student that is helping him correct papers and tests. If this is the case I will try to transfer to another class.
Jackie how are things going?
Claudia how was the first few days back? Blessings, Diana ps I may not be able to be on for a while as I have an art show which I was commissioned for over a year ago that my husband will help me to do. Then he will be going to Mexico. I hope he can stay for the weekend. But don't know hopefully my daughter can help me out if he has to leave. I design and weave baskets and all kinds of things, like jewelry and scarfs, and the like. I am not at all ready for this I just have felt so bad for so long it has definately hampered my working on things, I have things but I like to have a huge inventory and I don't feel that is the case. But the economy here in Michigan is horrible so don't think things will be as I would like them anyway. But it is usually a good show. Better go. Blessings, Diana

Its true - you have to go where you find work - which is what happened to my husband. Where he was working was about to close down and just in time(!) he was offered this job. The old job was a little bit nearer - literally across the road from our house! However, that's life.
He was the logistics/import/export/purchasing manager of a factory. Now he is he manager of a chicken farm!! It is really hard - not so much for me as I am at home. He is stuck in the middle of nowhere, where there is nothing to do! He travelled to Lagos this past weekend and was excited because he bought some fresh bread and had a real cup of coffee with milk!!
However, the good side is the money - we are finally getting ourselves out of debt and are able to help our kids - something that we couldn't have done before. He's been there now just over the year.

Claudia, hi, well my husband is an engineer for General Motors, so he coordinates projects from start to finish, so he travels a lot. Not always to the same place, he may be going to Japan soon he travels in the states as well, has been to Germany many times, also Spain and Italy, England, France, well many places right now he is going back to Mexico. Actually he would prefer to stay home, and I don't blame him but as Jackie will probably tell you you have to work were you are needed in this day and age. I don't envy you trying to deal with your principle. Not fun. Blessings, Diana p.s. still not up to par but have tests at the hospital tomorrow so hope I can make it in there.

Interesting stuff! I sure feel like the one w the boring existance here in old PA!! What do your DH's do that they are away so much of the time? Mine is an attorney in Philly- which means he sees clients about 3-4 evenings, but still he is home by about 9:30PM. Our married daughter is building a house not too far from us- maybe 30-40 min away. Our youngest is in college at SCAD- in Savannah, which we thought was FAR (until I heard where yours all are Jackie!)
Wish me luck- tomm I go back to work and hassle out what my principal signed me up to teach- that I didnt agree to do or didn't even KNOW about until Friday.......... sigh.

Claudia - my family is very international - its like the UN.
I'm originally from England and my husband is originally from Argentina. His sister now lives in Los Angeles. My husband is now working in Nigeria and gets home every 10 weeks for 2 weeks! My eldest daughter (the one who got married about the same time as yours) presently lives in London. She was in the US for 2 years, living in New Jersey where she met her husband, who is also Israeli. Anyway, as I said before, they are now living in London but are dreaming of going back to the States! My other daughter and hubby (they also got married last year!)live here in Israel and my youngest, (who is more or less finishing the army next week) will be going to London too for some time before starting studying next year.
Wow!
Diana - hope you are feeling better today,
Jackie

Claudia, I just realized that you didn't know Jackie was in Isreal, sorry I should have said something, it is so cool to have so many friends all over the world, it is kind of like traveling sometimes.
I am from Michigan, Albion lower middle part of the lower penninsula. Blessings to all, Diana p.s. still having troubles with whatever it is I am wondering if this has something to do with my liver, I recieved my lab work in the mail yesterday, well some many many things were high, at least 30 so don't know what it all means, but I am wondering if my feeling like I have motion sickness is from that. I also started a new med so I don't know what it is but I am ready to get rid of it, my dh is home and I feel terrible that I haven't felt like doing anything, I thought well maybe it is becaue I have been laying down so much so I sat up all day, it wasn't that, so hopefully I will be able to do something tomorrow. Even something for a couple of hours. Talk to you all later. Blessings, Diana

Hope you are all having a great long weekend. Here, in Israel, the kids go back to school on September 1st except when it falls on a Saturday, so today , the 2nd was the first day of school. In Israel the weekend is Friday and Saturday.
However, the Jewish New Year falls towards the end of next week - it starts Wednesday evening, and it is the only 2 day Jewish holiday here - so it is a really lovely long weekend - half day Wednesday - lots of people don't go to work - myself incl., Thurs, Friday, & Saturday - great! What's even better is that dh arrives for his 2 week holiday next Tuesday pm - so he'll be here too.
Have a great week - and all the best with the new school year!

Hi ladies, hope this finds you both well.
I just returned home from my surgery, I had some post op troubles but now things seem to be ok, my surgeon and gastroenterologist is starting a nation and I think world wide clinic which the hub will be in Ann Arbor Mi with Mayo Clinic and Sanford and others participating, since I was his guinea pig he would also like me to be apart of this program, he said to me today before my surgery, that I was the worst that gastroparesis can be [dead stomac] and there are many many people with gastroparesis which has responded to meds but these meds are very hard on ones body, so he is proposing that this procedure be done instead. Don't know the details right now other than that. But I think it is pretty cool if I have been a catalyst for others in the help they need. So all of this hasn't been in vain. Which makes me happy. Now if I can keep healthy enough to do this, that will be even better.
Talk to you all later. Have a great day and weekend.
Blessings, Diana

Claudia, well this semester I don't think I can do much but get to class. I will be taking some inclusion classes, [funny things haven't really changed that much] I could sub, but nothing else unless I could get into a charter school under the wings of another Master degree teacher, which is OK if you are currently taking education classes. But really in Michigan they say that they are crying for teachers, well they will be screaming soon as it is a 5 1/2 year program, so the living that is made is just so difficult not only that all our schools are in the depths of despair with our economy, it is really bad, more foreclosures than any other state in the union, and it is getting worse by the day. So people are moving out. All schools are hurting for money, and so they lay off teachers without they're tenure. So I don't know I would like to teach, but I also almost have a business administration degree as well, so I have to make some decisions soon, but this symester I will be just trying to hang on. I am having surgery this friday and start classes on Tuesday. Then I should be started with my music students the following week but may need another week. I also have a art show that I will be doing next weekend which I have done for many years, already paid for things so I just need to assess my inventory and add a few new things. They wanted me to do an art show in my home town the following weekend but with everything that is going on I don't think I can do that one. Better go. Blessings, Diana
p.s. I had a doctors appointment today as well as yesterday just going to the doctor wears me out. My rhuemy says that my liver is really high and has been for the entire year so he ordered some more blood tests today and I don't know what was found I stopped to see my dad nad worked out so I didn't get home in time to call them back as they left a message to call them back so will do that tomorrow he also wants a ultrasound of my liver, So who knows.

It's astonishing that they make you redo classes! In PA you need to keep your cert. current by taking (a whole lot) of add'l credits- they can be college credit or workshops- ppl do complain about how high the requirements are. I was hoping to take a class this fall- but it was pushed back to spring. What classes are you taking? Can you work somewhere until you are finished w your classwork?

Claudia, well no I haven't gotten another job opportunity yet but I am also still not quite finished with redoing all of my classes which Western Michigan University said that I had to do as it had been over 25 years since I first recieved my degree so I am almost back there but I am hoping to get a job close to home and try to work for 10 years, but don't know if it will happen with my physical struggles things are a bit difficult for me. Michigan has a very difficult system for teacher certificates, it is a 5 1/2 year full time student program, so I believe they are going to have difficulties finding teachers in Michigan because of it I mean well 5 1/2 years and you can almost be a lawyer or dentist or almost a doctor so if you were looking at money well start out at about 22,000. or start out at about 50,000. With the same time invested. Education should be the top priority in our country that is our future but everything is just not the way it should be.
I believe the school have been issued a loan to build a new school but I doubt if I would go back there again as I just didn't get any cooperation there at all, and they really expected miracles, with the senior high kids most of them were deralics that couldn't make it in the public school so they come to the charter school, also this school was about 40 miles from my house and only part time no benifits or anything but I did enjoy it and the younger kids were so very special. Better go, so what kind of house is your daughter and son in law building? single story or 2 story? Most of the new homes in our area are very very expensive homes and they are losing them as quickly as they build them. forclosures in Michigan have been horrible. I don't think the outside states really know to the extent of our problems no jobs the economy is just dyeing here. Hope things turn around. Blessings, Diana

Hi Diana-
Good job surviving that stress test- hope all is well with you.
It was astounding to hear what your old school expected of you- I help our music teacher (a very very small amount) with her programs, so I know what a HUGE job that is- and so stressful- but she only does the Christmas one- I can't even imagine how you would pull together a show like that in 4 weeks- crazy.
Sorry to hear about the fire though- have you had any luck in finding another school?

CCC, hello, well it sounds like a wonderful job, we have a small independant school district not to far from my home about 7 miles, I would love to work there as it is more of an independant school. I worked in a Charter school a while ago but didnt' care for it as the administration promised the world but gave me mold instead, what that means is that being their music teacher for K-12 the only one, and part time at that, I had to haul my room with me, in my car, from school to school and no closet nor anything to keep my equipment in that was the worst but also they expected a music program at Thanksgiving time that included K-12 which was roughly 500 students, and then expected another program 4 weeks later including the entire school again well the younger grades were fine as I could see them all 3 days when I was there but the 7-12 only once per week and only for 1 hour. So it was difficult. The school burned and they closed and it was probably a good thing as I think they would have killed me with what I had to do. Well the weight thing is difficult as well, I have many issues health wise but I do all that I can to stay as healthy as I can, I did survive my stress test today, it was 4 hours long, I had never had one that long ever before so it was a different type of one. Better go. Blessings, Diana

Hi Diana-
I am a school librarian in a small catholic school about 8 min from my house- it's a great job because library is one of the "specials" (like gym, art, etc.) so it' like being a grandparent- you see all of the kids, have fun w them, then give them back!
I have been married for 30 years (this past June) & we have 2 great daughters- 23 & 20- both lovely people! While out to lunch with my 2 (thin) daughters in June, we got to discussing calories and that is when I got motivated. I'm 5'8" and weighed 135 when I got married & have gained about 2 pounds a year since then. boooo. I have only seriously dieted once in my life- about 18 years ago with nutri-system, but gained it all back. I'm hoping this whole lifestyle change is more lastingly sucessful!
Where do you live? There are 4h clubs in PA, but none close to here- I know it is a great organization.
CCC
ps- good luck on the test- it does NOT sound like fun- let us know how you did.

Hello Claudia, well I know what that empty nest syndrome is all about.
Well I was a 4-h'r for 10 years but all I did was crafts but did sewing and knitting as well.
My daughter was in 4-h for10 years as well but fortunately for her she was able to be in horses as well as crafts. She still doesn't sew, I keep telling her that she will be sorry if she doesn't get into it as I won't be around forever.
I have been a 4-h leader for about 22 years. I started out just being a craft leader and then when my daughter started I became the craft leader of our Horse club of course I helped out with our barn decorations and other things, like everything, but everyone I guess thought that after my daughter was to old then I would quite, no way, I enjoy working with the kids a lot. I have as of late spread myself a bit thin. I am a church musician and a college student and a musice teacher, I am our churches lay moderator as well.
I have a son who is 29 married and he has 2 daughters [my grandbabies] they are expecting no 3 in Feb. I have a daughter who shares my love of horses. She got married 2 years ago and then finished her college program and has been employed as a medical lab techician, and they are expecting their first baby, she is 25, the baby is due right around her 26th birthday in March. So we found out about the newest members of the family within 2 days of each other. So this is very good news as I have had a very rough year and I am ready for good things.
I will be having a stress test in the morning it is a different sort of one as I was told that it would last for 3-4 hours the previous ones that I have had were about 30 min. My husband came home to take me. I was supposed to have it on Tues but had to fast and I am a brittle diabetic and I started shaking badly about 2 hours before my test so it was cancelled. So hopefully I will be set for a while, next week friday I will be having stomac surgery again so hopefully I will be feeling a bit better. I did get to work out today so that was good.
So what are your interests? Do you work outside the home? Do you have more children or the two girls? I would have been sweating bullets if my daughter would have been driving that distance, good that she had a friend with her. In this day and age wow things are just different.
I write to another friend that lives in Philly as well. My parents had a couple that were friends from back in the army and so I have been to PA, but not to PHilly. I would like to visit sometime, also hershey and many of the other historical points of interest.
I have been married to my wonderful husband for 33 years he is a wonderful man and father and grandfather, no one could ask for more. Better go good to talk to you, hope that I can be on the posts more often Blessings, Diana

Welcome back Diana-
the kids' house is coming along quickly- a lot of fun for all. Our younger daughter returned to college in Savannah this week so the house seems very empty- her roomate flew in from LA for a few days and rode down with her (we live in Philly)- they arrived safely (whew!)
What do your kids do in 4h? That is a great program!

Hello again I just wanted to note that my daughter came home from work yesterday, and stayed in bed all day, I think she may be pregnant and not know it yet, I asked her she said I think I was just tired. I told her that was a syptom of pregnancy so we may be getting a grandbaby as well. The son and daughter in law are either going to have one this year or next, she will be 31 in september I tried to tell her that she wouldn't be to old in her 30's but she kept saying I want them all before I am 30. didn't happen that way though. They both have a good chance to have twins, both on both sides of the family so ????? Hubby says that we will have to by a bus to take the grandchildren with us. Blessings, Diana

Hello all, well I got into the internist today, instead of next week, she is conserned about my mini comas that I have been having, but she is also worried about my leg weakness issues and will be checking my blood glucose for 24 hours continuos. And MRI on my lower spine, as a herniation can cause this as well as MS. So I am leaving this in the lords hands. Blessings, Diana

Hello Ladies!
Back from the UK - had a great time - we didn't stop eating! So the weight has gone back on - but I must admit that I enjoyed it!
Hubby has now gone back to Nigeria. My mother is arriving here from London on Wednesday - so that means that I will not be able to get to the computer!!! No, she doesn't use it all the time - but when she is here, I have to be with here full time!!! Nothing or nobody is allowed to interfere with the time that we are together!!
Anyway, I have an exam tomorrow! I am thinking about doing a Hebrew/English translators course but first I have to pass the entrance exam which is really difficult.
I'll let you know how I get on.
Hope you are all well,

I have tons of experience in general office stuff, Human Resources, Marketing, and Customer Service. It's not too hard to find a job BUT it's really tough to find anything that pays anywhere close to what I was making. And while I am over 50, I don't look it and no one thinks I am. Since it's illegal in the US to ask the applicant's age, I don't think that's a big factor... Clearly, I'm not 21, but I don't think my age is a factor.

The biggest negative for me is geography. This is a small town in a remote part of the county. So I settle for low pay or get another long commute. Or wait and hope I get a good job closer to home. We'll see.

What was your job Kali? Is it the kind of profession that's easy to find another job? I don't know how it is in the States, but over here, its pretty hard to find something once you're over 50. Which doesn't mean that's its impossible to find something, but that you may have to take something that you would normally have chosen.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you!
All the best,

If I have to sell everything and start over, I can do it. I have before. As long as I have my health and my brain, I am fine.

I hope that you get unemployment Kali it can be a good sort of vacation, as long as your guy can manage for awhile, and this country is having such difficulties with our economy, I know that Michigan is the worst in the states, I am ready for a change, a change for the better. Kali, in California, I know how awful that can be, even though rationally you may know that it was probably for the best - its an awful feeling. I will tell you what everyone said to me when I lost my job a few years ago (and it proved to be true) - it really is for the best and you will find something better and bigger!
Do you get redundacy money in the States when you are fired? Maybe you can do something that you've always wanted to do.
Try to enjoy the time that you aren't working - I know that that's hard to do.
And like you said, the most important thing is to keep positive.

Hi - I'm not in England yet! I had computer/internet problems this week which is why you didn't hear from me!
Kali, I think that you've been giving Diana some great advice - and Diana, however hard it is, its always helpful to find the positive things around you.

I'm off to England in 2 weeks time. Today I went shopping and bought myself some clothes - not a smaller size unfortunately, and some presents to take with me.

Today is my younger daughter's 1st wedding anniversary. She, by the way, is trying very hard to stop smoking as she wants to get pregnant soon! I think that this time next year, I'll be a grandmother.

Isn't it hard to believe that a year has passed? We've been sparkfriends for quite a while now!

One of the things that I'll be taking with me to England, is my "English" daughter's wedding album and cd video. It took them a long time to get their act going ! Anyway, I've never seen a wedding album like it - its big and heavy plus all computerized and very impressive - and that's without talking about the photos themselves. Anyway, its beautiful (of course!)

Have a great weekend everyone!

"it is hard to focus on much of anything different right now." - Diana

You're right. It IS hard. But it can be done and you might find that you're happier and those around you are too if you try. Here's a great link with some tips on working toward a more positive attitude. I know that change is scary and that you may not feel you have the energy to make the effort required but a more positive attitude has health benefits as well as benefits for the relationships in your life...

Hello Kali, it is hard to focus on much of anything different right now. I did give 2 of my sisters a piece of my mind today, I don't like everything that happened, but I told my youngest sister that I never ever wanted her to talk bad of me in front of my dad, just because she is one of his favoites.
My daughter and son in law are here, I am indoors to clean [something that has been neglected lately,
My daughter is going to a horse show next Sat. and I will be going with her, [that is the one thing we totally have in common].
I am having my student music recital on tuesday which I have so much to do I am not going to get everything done. It is hard for me to think about things that I should be talking about.
It is so good to be able to do this again, I think that she will be pregnant by the fall, so she is thinking that she has to quit when that happens. She can ride until just before she has the baby. But she will probably be worried I rode when I was pregnant after the baby I didn't have anyone that would watch the baby, she does, I do believe that if she doesn't get out of it, then she will be fine. I told her that I would help her. Oh well, Better go back and get some more cleaning done I am so far behind. Blessings to all, Diana

Hey Diana, I don't know about your family, but in my family, we barely remember one another's birthdays and never anniversaries. OK, I remember my sister's anniversary because I picked their wedding date and it's St. Patrick's Day so it's pretty easy to remember (she wanted a date that her hubby wouldn't forget! LOL) I wouldn't take it too hard. Most people are so tied up with their own problems and their own lives they don't think about others enough. At least you DH remembered and took you out.

I think journaling is an excellent idea. I have been writing off and on since high school - a million years ago - and it really helps me.

Maybe it would help you to refocus on some of the positive things in your life. What is your favorite thing to do? Do you like your teaching? Is it pretty where you live? What's your favorite way to reward yourself for meeting a goal?

Hugs,
kali

All I want to say is that I have had counciling many times. Our insurance, doesn't pay for any of it so right now I cannot afford 500. per visit.
I am so very sorry that I have put my horrible life onto all of you I will just have to try harder to not say anything about my "extra problems" I also very sorry, my life is becoming not a life if you get what I mean. I am torn between everything. God never promised me a rose garden for my life and I need to except that and move on. So from now on I will just write things down on paper instead of burdening all of you with all my "stuff" Sorry again, this is not your problem and I need to keep them to myself, Blessings to all, Diana

Hello, Well my sisters did not remember it is our anniversary, so we will be staying with my dad tomorrow and tomorrow evening, My DH took dinner to him tonight, well he had other plans, to go out to eat with one of my sisters, so by the time I finished work and my DH got home which is 26 miles on the other side of were my husband comes from, so he took me to Red Lobster, but then I finally found my cell phone my husband used it on Monday and put it in the garage and forgot. Well when I called up my messages, [had 30] all three of the sisters had messages for me, the one that lives near my dad called on my cell wed when I was in the area to teach, wondered if I was going to come over to dads, well I always do unless I have a meeting to run or go to, in which then I try to get there before I teach. They were desiding to call the other sister or not so happens that they drove to were I teach and seen my car. The other one said call me Diana[ she is the one who lives with him] Then miss control, [baby sister] called and said call me and we will work something out. She said before 10 well I got the message at 10 so I didn't want to talk to any of them anyway. I don't know how I can get all my doctors to tell them all the doctors are to busy to do that. Besides they would probalby charge me 100. each for the call.
Isn't that terrible that I don't want to even see any of them. I wouldn't mind seeing dad but I think that they are going to keep it up. So we will go and be there tomorrow night, then come home and go to bed and then up and to church the next morning. Well I have probably ruined everything with all of you, but this has effected my health and talking about it dosen't make me feel any better either, I am just stuck, you know I wasn't able to take my husband to a movie or do anything with him for his birthday it was mothers day, so I really wanted to take him to a movie this weekend, [he really likes movies] I have been not in a good mood and he dosen't want to talk about things either, so I don't know I am just going to give it to God, I cant seem to deal with it well. Blessings, Diana p.s. Sorry everyone, I do hate it when I get like this, I do not like it at all. Thanks!

Diane I feel bad for you that your family does not understand that you can not keep up with everything and take care of your dad also. They need to give you some slack. They are being very selfish. You need to have your doc. tell them how bad you and that you do not need the added stress.
Oh by the way my husand and I have been married 41 years this coming September. How about the rest of you.

Diana - congratulations on your wedding anniversary. I hope that you manage to have a lovely time anyway and not let life get you down.
These days it really is something to hear of marriages lasting this long - you must and your husband must have a good relationship even though he is away during the week.
Have a good weekend,
Jackie

Well we will probably be spending it with my dad, making him dinner and helping until 10 my husband said well we can do it for a couple of weekends but it is just temporary as we are not spending half of the 8 days that we see each other during the month with my dad well it would be different if he came over here as we have a 5 acre lawn to mow and I cannot do it myself I wish that I could. So I have yet again been to look like the bad guy I love my dad, and for some unknown reason he stays all day long by himself I said well other than the days that I have school I could go over earlier in the day well they didnt' think that was necessary???? So I can't please them right now I don't think I can please anyone. But somehow God will help. Better go, thank you for the well wishes, it is quite the thing this day and age to have a marriage survive this long. Blessings, Diana

Hello all, hope this finds you all well. Jackie how exciting!, This friday is our 33 wedding anniversary, I hope I am in better shape than I have been, I told myself that I wasn't going to go into things with anyone again, all I am going to say is that tonight after teaching I went over to dad's to visit him and all my sisters were there I think ready to pounce they did and I left, they are trying to make things appear as though I don't care and I am the bad daughter and that isn't so, I have spent the last 6 days in bed with ulcerative colitis,[a by product of my lupus etc..] So I did call my husband and talked with him, he told me not to go back until he goes with me. I don't know I sound like a cry baby, but I did mention that they all seemed to get it when mom got diabetes and when she had her stroke, well I have had those things for many years, and had another slight stroke a year and a half ago, but I just got up and left told them I am sorry that I cannot be what they want me to be, and left. didn't say good bye to dad I was too upset, it seems as though it is all my fault and I have a sister that lives with my dad for free and she I am sorry should be doing most of everything, I don't think everything Just most of everything. So they expect me to quit giving lessons on the days that are my turn, and one weekend a month. Oh well. I just am leaving it in Gods hands. He knows what is going on and he has a plan I am sure, Sorry I have dumped again, I have just had a rough week again, so I will say good night, Jackie you still have about 4 weeks until your anniversary, so just do what you can and what will be will be. Blessings to all, Diana

Jackie, that sounds like a fabulous trip! I do hope you'll share some photos with us when you return.

My summer vacation (after the script writing insanity in June) will be closer to home. We'll be camping in the National Forest nearby and doing lots of hiking, some fishing, and lots of enjoying nature. It will be the first time the younger dog has slept in a tent so it ought to be an adventure. LOL

Safe travels, Jackie.

Did I tell you all about my summer?
On Friday June 22, I am flying to England. I will stay with my mother until the Sunday - she lives in a county called Essex. Hopefully, on the Sunday, my brother will come there, plus my daughter. Then in the evening, I'll be going to my daughter's appartment in Hendon, London. Early the next morning - my husband arrives in London! On the Wednesday we (daughter Ela, her hubby Lior, my hubby and myself!) all go to Devon (its on the bottom left hand side of England when you look at the map!!). We stay there for 3 days - on 28th - its our 30th wedding anniversay. From there, we travel all the way back to my brother's house in Kent. Finally, the next day, sunday, its back to my mother's for lunch, and Monday, we fly back to Israel!
David is here for another week and then he goes back to Nigeria. Two days later, my mother is coming for a visit for about 10 days and the last 3 days, I've booked us into a hotel in Tel Aviv.

I am very excited about the trip to England as it is the first time that I have ever gone touring anywhere since leaving there over 30 years ago.

Unfortunately, I haven't managed to get down to the weight that I was for the weddings - and that upsets me - but its too late to do anything about that now.

Hello friends, I am sorry if I come off as unappreachiative, as I am very appreciative,of all of you. I have been very very ill for quite some time I guess I am not good at covering it up sometimes. Well my lupus is in flare as well as my fibro, even those with fibro cannot understand, as I deal with diabetes and lupus fibro and gastroparesis, I have a hard time trying to understand why I feel so lousy, I have been in bed all weekend, so I hope that I can get back to things tomorrow as my student recital is June 5th. a lot of work to do this will be my 35th annual spring student recital. I usually have about 150 people that attend. So hope the weather and things cooperate. I haven't been able to stay out of the bathroom for the past 72 hours, I hope that stops soon, you would think that I would have lost 5 lbs, but that isn't the case either, Oh well.
I will try very hard not to involve all of you in my troubles, you all have your own things to deal with. And I want to keep our friendships. I think they may go away if I continue as I have been. Thank you for putting up with me. Blessings, Diana

I'm only offering suggestions as it seems like you have so much to deal with, Diana. Obviously I don't and can't know what you've done and what might work with your family members and friends. I just think it's got to be very difficult for you when no one understands and they have such high expectations of you. I wish I could make it better.

I send my wishes for a very happy Memorial Day for everyone who celebrates.

Diana - you're obviously going thru a very hard time and you are in a lot of pain, which, as you say, not everyone understands - you're lucky that you hae the fibro group who understand you. I think that although we may not truly understand what you are going thru, as we can not feel your pain physicaly, & we are not with you in person, we do honestly sympathise with you. Any advice given is meant well, and is objective. So I think that it's great that you have a place where you can talk about all your problems, but you should expect to receive our advice and thoughts - even if you don't feel that they are right for you. Its meant well.
Try to have a good day!

Kali, it would make things to difficult when I did visit my dad, actually we have always been a close family, it is just that non of them understand my conditions, which sometimes are totally demanding as far as my care. Such as since thursday and my test the next day I came home and slept 12 hours and then was up and around 4 hours and then back in bed for 12 hours, non of my family understand this is what happens to me, I don't even understand it. I wish my physical being were different. It is probably the diabetes and lupus and fibromyalgia and the gastroparesis, I don't know but something wipes me out. I do keep going as I need to our my lupus will just creep up and take over totally, my lupus and fibro I believe are in flare which basically means doing anything is a big chore, every inch of my body hurts 24-7 and that is hard to disgise, I don't complain but I move very slowly, I used to be exactly what you told me to do and it worked back then, as I think I have told you [maybe not] I have to walk with a cane most of the time, unless I am at home and in the house. This is because I had a severe accident which I was sent to Mayo Clinic to deal with, I also shattered my pelvis at that time. So it is very hard to cover that up. But I do pretty well if I do say so for myself, I go to college and do not get any extra special treatment, I give 48 music lessons per week on average, I live by myself all week and then my husband comes home when he can on the weekends. But all of this does not say anything to my sisters, as I have always held up my end but I cannot right now as my lupus and fibromyalgia are in flare, my youngest sister said well I think that the fibromyalgia is just what doctors say when they don't know what is going on. Well she is wrong as you have to have ruematoid factors and a positive ana, plus thesymtoms. So that is what I deal with and I never ever say anything to any of them as to just how difficult my life is, and the fact that I struggle for every breath, my main objective right now is to stay alive literally, but some of my problems are very difficult to mask right now. Hopefully things will get better again soon. Thank you for all your help I do appreciate your suggestion, but I have already done it but if I were to say that right now I would be expected to be there all summer with my dad and doing the entire care for him and being in flare that wouldn't be a good idea, if I were to say that and my sisters did talk they would make sure that I did all the care. Now I feel terrible that I ever told anyone about my delima as most just don't understand, my group Sparks with lupus totally understand , and my diabetes group [just a member] understand, I haven't yet found out if there are any other gastroparesis people out there on sparks, [need to see] the fibro groups do understand but most can't immagine dealing with lupus or any other disease besides fibro, I never ever have told any of these friends all my aliments I guess you all were the chosen group I am so sorry that I put all of this on to all of you, I have never really done that ever before I guess I was in a bad spot, I am soooooo verry soorrrry that I put this on all my good friends here at Mother of the Bride after the wedding and I will try to not unload on all of you ever again, Blessings to all, Diana

Diana, they're judging you anyway, so who cares? They're wrong and you know they're wrong. You can't let other people, even family members bring you down unless there's some truth to what they're saying. Still, I know it isn't easy. Be strong and be well. Life never hands us more than we can handle.

Kali, well if I were to say that it would give all of them more amunition to make me feel guilty about not taking more turns with my dad. I would be the worst daughter on earth, so that kind of statement could work with other people but not for my dad nor my sisters that would fuel there fire. Blessings, Diana

Diana, I have to agree with Jackie. You can't let other people's negativity get you down. They don't live in your skin and they have no idea (even though they think they do) what it's like. But I would certainly stop sharing how I feel with them and just say, "Oh pretty well" when they ask how I am -- even if I was dying. Then they wouldn't have anything to talk about. But that's just me and my personality. I've always been stubborn like that. It may not fit your personality. I just believe in drying up the ammunition if someone's using my own words against me... I stop sharing.

I'm keeping on my diet and exercise because the results so far have been wonderful and I do NOT want to go back to anywhere near where I was. There's a new photo of me in my gallery - taken last night. I am so happy with the progress I've made here on SP.

I'll have to see about making some changes to my workout or maybe my diet to jump start the progress again. It may just be that these last 30 pounds will be really tough which is OK too. Working this hard at losing weight is going to make me a lot more conscious of not regaining it.

I hope everyone has a fabulous holiday (I know Memorial Day's not an Israeli holiday, Jackie, but have a great Monday!) and stays safe and eats well.

Hello all, I am so exhausted, I had the last part of my test today, I am totally exhausted, I cancelled all my lessons today, I went home and crashed on the sofa, I am getting very tired again, so need to go. Blessings to all, Diana p.s. my sisters will never get it. They got how poorly my mom felt and she had fibro,[undiagnosed but I know that she had it] she was diabetic, and everyone was always very conserned about her, but they don't give things a second thought about my diabetes [which I have had for 25 +years] I am not complaining mind you, I know I have all of this going on in my body for a reason, will have to wait to find out. the only time they think of what I going through is if I am hospitalized, and surgery but according to them I am 100% a weeks later. They just do not get it and never will unless they have some of these things happen to them, I do however believe that we all share in verying degrees of Herniated disc. But bottom line is that they feel and their husbands feel I need to pull my fair share, of course I feel that way as well, I am going to put all of this in Gods hands. Blessings, Diana

Diane do your other sisters have health problems too. They should realize that you are doing all you can. I think Dad and your sisters need to have a talking too. We are dealing with the same thing but my siblings and I are all the same wave length it is just hard when you have parents you are parenting now. Don't wear yourself out. You still have to take care of yourself and your family. Maybe a family meeting would work.

Hello everyone, Jackie first of all I am sorry that I didn't read about you Jewish holiday, hope it is a good one for you.
RosieKay, hope this finds you well.
Brinnie, Hi hope you are doing well tool
Kali, hello to you
everyone else as I know there are others hello and have a great 3 day weekend or holiday,
I am bushed I took my dad to the hospital for a cat scan today, I fixed some things not thinking about his special diet so I asked him what sounded good to him. he said brats and scalloped corn, and grapes. So I went into the grocery store and bought what I needed and came out and went to his house got him inside, and realized that I didn't get buns for the brats, so I also wanted to workout so went back to town and got the buns and worked out. I was exhausted and then my one sister sat there playing cards with my dad, and so I proceeded to make dinner for them, she said if you knew how to make the brats in the skillet I would have. [how much of a brain does it take to cook brats in a skillet.?] So I made biscuts and cherries as dad cannot eat strawberries. and made the escaloped corn and then started cooking the brats, they were ready about the same time the biscuts and corn were so I fixed my dads plate and started to wash dishes, I looked at my sister and said you can dry and take care of them. I just had to leave of course it was 8:30 when I left there. My other 2 sisters think that I should pay for someone to come in and take care of dad because I can't well I cannot aford to do that, so I tried today but with my test in the morning [in a few hours] and teaching in the afternoon and evening I will be totally exhausted so no fun for my husband as he is coming home for the 3 day weekend. Oh well, I gues that is life, but just one day of doing everything an I am wiped out. Better go, need some sleep. Blessings,Diana

Thanks for the good wishes Kali. I had a nice quiet holiday - too much food - but that's how it goes!

Hope that you are feeling better today Diana - and that all goes well with the test today.

Brinnie - welcome - I'm in the same boat as you - both my daughters got married last year (its almost a year since the first wedding - can't believe that!). I also lost quite a bit of weight for the weddings and then came the winter, I was sick with the flu on and off the whole of the winter, and put it all back on. And so, here I am, trying very hard to get that weight off again. I keep trying to find motivation dates - there may not be weddings, but there are always "important events" that we look forward to. At the moment, my next event is a trip to England in a month - hoping to get some more weight off before then.

Bye for now,
jackie

I hope those who are not well find something to relive their pain and symptoms and that those who are stressed also find relief. It's so difficult when you're ill.

I'm looking forward to the three day weekend here - planning to plant my vegetable garden. I'm a bit late doing it but we've decided not to sell the house (the market is insane and there's no point really if we have to give the thing away!) and I want my home grown veggies!

Hello all my friends, sorry I have been away but 2 things one I haven't recieved notice of posts again, second, I have not been well, I had a doctors appointment with my rhuematologist,[he helps with my lupus] he took xrays, of my knees, well they are shot, and my veins are also shot. I have the other part of my nerve test this friday, I have also been down as my 2 youngest sisters who have done most of the extra work for my dad, got on my case on Monday and tuesday, They do not understand what I am going through, I am really just trying to stay alive, I know that I cannot be a care giver for my dad, unless I want to be in worse shap than I am already, but yes I do have guilty feelings, I just wish that I could be kind of normal, but my life as it is is complicated. right now I think my kidneys are shutting down I have been drinking 12 liters of water or more everyday, and my output isn't hardly anything, my mouth gets so dry I can hardly talk really, so I teach and drink water all the time. The only thing that has kept me away from the doctor for this is I haven't been in large pain in my back and that is what has happened before. I am going to look up some info on my kidneys, My rhuemy, said that he was very angry with the neurosurgeon he blirted out any idiot can tell without looking at your films that you need spine surgery! I told him that wasn't going to happen it I can help it. I have had more surgeries than any 18 people need. He thinks that my herniations are that bad. The surgeon said that what I was discribing wasn't what he saw. That was difficiult, and as soon as I told him that I had had 3 EMGS with in 9 months that the insurance wouldn't pay for it. He wasn't interested in helping me. So this friday I will be having the last part of this complicated test. hopefully the machine will work. Better go, Thank you all for being my friends.
Welcome to our site, sorry I forgot your name, I will get back with you. Blessings to all, Diana
