Has anyone tried the artichoke extract for high cholesterol? I just bought a bottle, but can't take them yet because I am having rotator cuff repair surgery 2/13. I saw it mentioned a couple different places recently and thought I would give it a try. If anyone has had any results with this please let me know.

I am going to have my cholesterol done this next week. I am hoping to have some good news. My numbers have not been good in the past even though I have no heart problems, which I am very thankful for. I just started eating walnuts or pecans on my cereal so glad to hear someone else had good results with them. I will add almonds now also. Do have to watch the calories on them though.
I agree that Spark is amazing. I have lost 30 lbs doing this and it is actually easier than anything I have done in the past to lose weight.
Good luck to all of you! txgram

Thank you for the tip. I used to eat a few fresh almonds daily and then gave them up when the cholesterol numbers were so high. They have come down thanks to a change in diet and medication yet my HDL numbers remained very low. I will give them a try again. Thanks again for this excellent tip!

I'm in the same boat with most of you, I'm sure my numbers are high, but I'm down over 20# and now can walk 2hrs a day with my dog and even run a little. I have a Dr's apt soon, I'm hoping everything will be good enough I won't have to go on meds.Dru

silvia2006,
I have been eating small amounts of walnuts and almonds no more than 15 almonds or 15 walnut halves, every other day and my HDL went from about 59 to 93. They are high in fat (good fat) so don't go overboard and you may need to give up some other protein on nut day, but it really works. I'm so surprised doctors don't tell people this.

Good luck Linda,I know you will do it-

I notice you are a teacher so I can understand how busy you are and how hard it must be to put yourself first. So good luck on that and I hope you next tests are good ones.

Take care,

Silvia

Good luck, Silvia - I don't even want to know what my cholesterol is right now - I've had one of those over-packed falls with way too much to do, and I'm afraid I haven't been taking very good care of myself.
It's back to SP and working hard at losing the weight I gained back - 2 days now and feel as though I've got a little bit of control over things.

Congratulations Linda,

Isn't Spark amazing? And isn't great to work on taking less meds?

After being dignosed with a heart problem my doctor told me some drastic changes were in order and ten weeks after starting Spark my lab results were so much better. Also had a 20 pound wait loss.

cholesterol from 188 to 117
HDL from 30 to 27 (need to see if I can work on this)
LDL - from 122 to 63

I do take medication and hope to maybe get rid of some of them at the next checkup. my blood pressure also went back to normal range am Also hoping he will adjust these meds soon.

Now if I can raise the HDL I would be totally thrilled.

I came back to SP because I knew I needed to lose weight this summer because my cholesterol (with medications) had risen significantly.
6 weeks later, the results are in -
My total cholesterol dropped almost 40 points with a 10# weight loss. Since I'm aiming for another 10#, I can't wait to see what it is then - I know my cardiologist will be happy - and I have to admit I'm glad I'm not looking at a higher dose of statins.
Yeah! LindaK
