My little five day golf trip was very, very nice. Me and eleven other golf nuts enjoyed five great rounds of golf at a very nice resort with temps in the 60's in the morning and mid 70's during the afternoon. Took in some hiking and back packing and saw some unusual sights - like 30 white tail deer in a field together at sunrise, an American Bald Eagle swoop down 50 ft. in front of me and grab a slow, black squirel right up in it's talons for a nice family meal and a lazy racoon chug across the fairway in front of our rented condo. And the stars ------ they were soooo big and bright at night - when the steam from the hot tub cleared for a view! HA We do this once a year - the twelve of us. Great fun!

Thanks for the input. I feel better about it. The lab will be a happy dog because my son and his family live way out of town and have about 5 acres of land. He can run until his heart is content.

A lab is a great dog for the whole family. They are great with kids - a young one can do anything they want with that big ole puppy and he will just love the attention. A kid can not hurt that lab - like a toddler can hurt a cat. I think your son is a very smart young man, indeed!
But someone DOES have their work cut out for them. That lab likes to eat.... a lot! And he needs to burn energy.... a lot! And he drops..... a lot!! HA

I'm sorry to hear that. I know what you mean, I've been there. I lost my Sheeba (cat) a few year ago and I cried my heart out.

I asked about the dog/cat thing because my son finally decided on a black lab for my grand daughter's birtday present. I've never had a dog and I was wondering if a lab is a good "child friendly" dog.

As the grizzly is charging, OAKIE camly, yet firmly, says "Now here you ole big bear you, stop that or I will be angry!" With absolutely no fear in his voice. Oh, and the bear is not rabid.

In addition to the goose, I had a rooster charge at me. I was scared stiff. I kept trying to push him away with my purse. He actually would put his head down, dug his feet in the dirt (like a bull) and ran full tilt at his target (me). It was not very much fun.

Hi there,
all the grand kids stories are so great-we've got a new grandson due in august-Al's tribe just keeps reproducing, but at least i get to do the grandma thing!!!

I was attacked by a goose at Green Lake in Seattle when I was 19--i definitely don't get near them anymore either--they like to hang out by the Willamette River in Clackamas (Oregon) where I live now. They are not afraid of anything.
I do like the sound of them flying over when they are traveling either direction!!!
Also got attacked by turkeys when I was a little kid living with my Grandma--in the red snowsuit my Mom got me!
Critters-what would you do without them! We make jokes here about the "urban" wildlife-squirrels, raccoons, possoms and crows!

We took some of the grandkids out on the boat this weekend on Grand Lake. They had a great time. The 7 year old grandaughter finally got up the courage to jump off the top of the boat. The 20 month old twins loved floating in the water, they kept trying to get away from us. I guess they felt pretty secure in the lifejackets. One of them would not go in the water to his dad but when grandma got in he crawled under the railing and started over the side to me. His dad got a little upset he would go to me in the water but not him. Those boys love their grandma.

things you can do with tomatoes:

slice organic heirlooms (i used odorico's today, omg how delicious!) into a bowl with chopped fresh basil. Drizzle with olive oil, sprinkle with sea salt. Mix (with your hands ). Cover and let sit on the counter, preferably all day.

You will think you died and went to heaven, tomato-lovers, when you pile some of these over baby greens and pair with sugar snap peas and slices of orange pepper.

Happy Mem Day weekend to y'all

Okiepapa,
Thank you for the tips. I don't have a smoke house, so I guess that is not an option. I will, however, do the sun dried tomatos on the screens. I just put my plants in today so it will be about 75 days before they'll be ready. It only takes one day to dry? That's amazing.

Dring= home dehydrator,or sun dried= 2 saw horses window screen and lots of cheese colth. put the screen on the saw horses wash good, layer with 2 layers of cheese cloth, cut the Tomatoes in half, face up,cover 2 layers of cheese cloth, and top with another clean screen.(keeps the flys off)leave in the sun on calm days (hot)from 8- 14 hours.bag um
Smoking = the same as smoking ribs, turkey, hams,in a smoker, they sell for $5 a small baggie in Texas,I started smoking them in 1980.
I've tried liquid smoke, onion powder, and garlic salt and worstershire sauce, marinaid for 30 min.and put into a dehydrator untill chewy like dried cherries.they are a great snack. (To much sodium for my life style now) INJOY
