Willows: I will check out that website when I get a chance. What is it like in your part of the world. I live in Ontario and today it is windy and cold. We had a little snow last night. Well must get off to the barn and feed the animals. You have a good one. Ruth

You have a lot of chores. I use to spend an hour or more each morning and night feeding when I was raising goats. I had as many as 110. It just got to be to much work for one person. I now have 3 cows and their calves with more on the way. I also have 2 appaloosa horses and a minature which I am starting on a cart this year. When you spoke of the coyotes and the fact that you have a Maremma. We also have coyotes, wolves and fox, but since I have gotten my Maremma they no longer come close to the barn. I also have a great dane, Basset Hound and a small mixed breed. The sun is shining this morning, but we had a little snow last night and it is cold and windy. I live in Ontario on what we call the ridges it is truly a snow belt area, but I love the peace and quite. The closest other farm is 1/4 of a mile away. It was great hearing from you and hope to talk soon. Have a good one. Ruth

Thanks Willows for the great homesteading site. I went to it last night and "looked around".
It's just getting day-light here.. time to do morning chores.. which consist of hand-milking one cow.. feeding hay to the cattle (6 cows and a 5-month-old heifer calf).. feeding 13 layer hens (locked in a barn..but they have a nice outside run)..also feeding LOTS of free-ranging fowl (banties, guenies, ducks).. we have coyotes lurking around for a free meal.. our 2 farm dogs(a Maremma and an elderly black Lab) keep them at bay most of the time..
We don't have any horses at the moment.. but plan to again when our 7 grandchildren are a bit older (oldest grandchild just turned 3..the rest are 2,2,2,1,3-months and the youngest will be 1-week-old tomorrow)..

I look forward to finding out how you run your farm and in which areas you deal. I have beef cattle and horses as well as 4 dogs. I am a lover of animals and the peace and beauty of the country. I love to go for long walks through the bush and see all the wild life. I look forward to exchanging stories with others who enjoy the country life. Have a good one.
