| Good for you. I smoked for 20 years and finally gave it up over 20 years ago - it took me 3 times to quit but it finally took. You are so much better off.

Way to go, John! Did you have as much trouble as I did giving up the foul habit? I didn't realize how bad my clothes and house smelled until I had quit for a couple of weeks. Now just the smell drives me up the wall. Keep up the good work and allow yourelf grace if you should slip a little!
Blessings, Karen

That is Fantastic! JohnDouglas. So smart to find a site like this to help with the weight before it is a big issue. I wish I would have done that when I quit 6 years ago.
Keep up the great work...you've got 4 weeks under belt..that is awesome........kath

I'm so proud of all of you!! You all deserve a trophy for giving up that bad habit. I quit 8 years ago when my first grandson was born and don't think I've smoked a whole cigarette since. I have put on about 40 pounds in that time, but I think alot of it was just a sedentary lifestyle and a sit down job. I was really excited to find Spark People.

Thanks for the support guys! I am still working on getting more organized with this stuff, but have been doing pretty well with my nutrition plan this week. My main block (as usual) has been my lack of exercise...but I took a deep breath today and put in my new "Walk Away the Pounds" DVD and actually finished the 1 mile walk!!!! Yay!!! Now, if I can just keep the momentum going!~ Kat

| Hi GrannyB1, I too quit smoking and actually only gained 10 lbs, but I had already gained 20 post menopausal pounds. It was hard quitting smoking, but losing the pounds now at 62 is much harder and I had smoked for 41 years. I just discovered this web site and I think it will help alot. 1 pound at a time. Think of it that way and just know that we did the best thing we could have done for ourselves in quitting smoking !!! Be proud and strong.

Hi Kat....first congratulations on quitting smoking!! I did that as well 6 years ago and gained about 75 pounds, so I totally understand the feeling.
I would say to make changes one at a time. I decided to set a date....and make that the day I started watching my calories and doing at least 30 minutes of exercise each day. I gave myself a few weeks so that I could get in the right frame of mind and when the day came I started doing it.
If you're strong enough to quit smoking you are absolutely strong enough to begin taking care of yourself and losing however much weight you decide you want to lose.
Keep posting here and know that you can do this! .......make it a great day....kath
