I had thyroid cancer resulting in total removal in 1963. My weight gain, although in part may be blamed on the lack of a thyroid, can also be blamed on the weight I gained with 3 pregnancys. I have been taking some form of thryoid replacement ever since and am now taking Levothyroxine. When I gained weight I hit a specific weight and have fluctuated very little until recently. I discovered this site a week ago and didn't give myself an opportunity to even think about "starting tomorrow". I lost the 10 pounds I had gained. Now is the real test!!! I really want to lose and hope that this time, thyroid or not, that I can.

Good luck to everyone. We cant do it!!!

I have hypothyrodism. Started back in 1983. Been on synthroid since. They have another thread for it over in Sparks Cafe that's pretty good. The only way I can loose weight is to exercise everyday and eat the least amount of calories they suggest. So far it's working great. I lost 3.8 lbs. last week.

I had my thyroid removed 11/2004 I am just now getting meds regulated, and still haven't lost weight. May ask doc for an insulin resistance test.

I'm new to the site and I noticed you're topic...and I didn't have my thyroid removed...they don't do that so much anymore...they give you radioactive iodine to kill it off...and you definitely have a harder time loosing weight...i had lost 60 pounds my junior and senior year of high school and since i've had my thyroid killed off..i've put most of it back on...and it's seriously hard to loose weight even if you eat just right...

Has anyone else here had their thyroid removed? I had mine removed in Sept, 1996. Have you noticed if it makes it harder to lose weight? I just figured it was because I'm so tired all the time. In all those years, they still can't get me regulated.
