Welcome to Sparks. I have a sister born in January of 1959!
My 43 yo husband has some arthritis in his lower back, wrists, and ankles. It can be quite painful and obstructive. You need to exercise but it hurts to exercise...kind of a catch 22 situation! He has recently gotten cortisone shots and that has helped immensely.
I am still trying to figure this site out myself! I'd like to get one of those cute weight loss bars that run across the bottom of your message...have you seen them? I started looking for it but haven't found where to get it from...maybe I'm not looking in the right place.
I am at 230lbs and would like to get down to 180lbs by Christmas. Actually, I have tried many times to get to 180 by Christmas in years past. The closest I got was 10 years ago after my father died. That was also before menopause. I've about got that situation over with so I'm hoping that NOW I can get some weight to go away. I'm not afraid to exercise or watch what I eat. As a matter of fact, I've been told by my doctor that I don't eat nearly enough and my body thinks it's going to starve so it won't let lose of the extra weight I have...go figure!
It's been nice to meet you. Please stay in contact.
Blessings~ Caren

Hey Caren, I just read your post. This is my first day and I am excited to see others just beginning.
My name is Renee-born March 29, 1959. I'm not hardly to to the 50 mark yet (9 months away) but I really like this group. I am married and have one daughter (17) just graduated from high school and one son (29) who is in the United States Army. He has chose this as a career. He's been there 10 1/2 years and just reenlisted for 9 1/2 more. I am very proud of both of my children and my 6 yr. old granddaughter.
I have gained to the point that I have never weighed before. I do have health problems (Rhumatoid Arthritis). When that hit me is when I started gaining because I could not do the activities I used to do. But now with the medication I am on I feel that I should be able to get more active. With a little help and from friends I will make it. Together we can ALL make it.
Hope this is a great day for everyone!
God Bless You!
Renee

Good Morning from Northeast Ohio! My name is Caren and I was born March 16th, 1957. I have just read everyone's posts and I feel like I know each and everyone of you! What a pleasant and caring group. I know I will feel right at home here.
A little about me...I am married to a wonderful man 8 years my junior. At 6'6" in height, even at 40 lbs overweight, he looks great. (Of course, men don't carry it in their back sides!) I have a 15 yo son who just dropped 63 pounds in the last 7 months making him also 6'6" tall but weighing in at 171 lbs. I have an 11 yo daughter who, like me, is overweight. She is 5'6" tall and could lose about 30 lbs. She is doing really well with cutting back this summer so I can see her clothes getting loser and loser. I stand all of 5'3 1/2 " tall. (I like to say I am short for my weight!) I weigh more now than I ever have. Even more than when I was pregnant with the kids. I have attempted every diet out there but have given up when the results were not as fast as I wanted them to be. I "was" working out every morning for 2 1/2 hrs doing 1 1/2 hrs of cardio and 30 min of strength training. I worked out with my BF who ids a physical trainer. When the weight wasn't going anywhere, I went for bloodwork to see if I had a troubled Thyroid. The outcome was that I suffer from Adrenal Fatigue and I am menopausal. I was told to stop all exercise because it was not helping. It was hard advice to take because I had a "purpose" even if it wasn't fully working. I have since added another 15 pounds to the equation and 4 sizes (from a 16 to an 18-20).
Okay...that was yesterday. Today is a new day! I have had my coffee, added myself to this group and am heading up to change and go walk on the treadmill for 30 minutes. Thank you all for "listening" to my story. I look forward to the friendship created on this site!
