Ok, it's under "Other Information" and it's called "Personal Signature"

No, I mean under your message, there is a line with "edit", and you notice some people have stuff under that (like a saying or their name, or how much they have lost or something). You put it in on your page, and it comes up every time you post. They don't call it a tag line there, that's what they call it in email and e-groups and stuff (where people often tag-line their business, like 'Ask me about Avon'). I forget what it says exactly....it's on the right side, down by the profile pic-a box you can write in.

A tag line? You mean like the weight tracker? I was just going to try to use the weight tracker, put the total amount of inches I'd like to lose, and use that.

Is that the same thing as a tag line?

I think custom trackers like that would be nice! It shouldn't be hard to do, either, but just "one more thing"-and the SP powers-that-be have a lot of ideas to work on! Still, you are far from the first person I've heard say that! It seems like they could have a double bar with lbs to loose and inches to loose. Or at least let you pick one or the other. IDk, it's a littl more complex calculating your inches, but...well, it would be nice. Did you ever try posting a tag-line with inches to loose & progress?

Yes, I've measured, but I was thinking I'd put in the total amount of inches I want to lose in the visual tracker. I'd be the only one who knew what it meant, but it would be VERY motivating for me!

You know you can track your measurements, right? You can't have a visual goal line for it, but you can track any measurement you want. Now if I could only find my tape measure....

You bet! I had signed up at World Gym, the trainer did calipers on me and found that due to my lean muscle mass, I didn't have as much 'weight' to lose as I had always thought. That's also why I measure more than I weigh. Weighing for me can be very demotivating. I wish SP had a measurement tracker to use as a visual, as well as a weight loss/current weight tracker. I might just do mine in inches....

Ok, anyway! The best way to figure %'s of muscle, fat and bone is expensive and requires being in water. I haven't had any desire to look much into it. If you can find someone with calipers to do it, that works also. I think you can buy calipers, but you really need to study up on how to take the measurements, because they attempt to 'separate' the fat from the muscle, so that the caliper is only grabbing the fat. You also need to take the measure ments 3 times in order to get a more accurate average.

Hope that helps!

Hey, FITSPEAKER! How do you get numbers on a lean muscle mass, then? With a PT doing calibration? Does it read lbs or % or what? I have several people in my family who are in the "have a lot of muscle mass" camp, and who also have some weight to loose-or at least maintain. My husband's family is "stocky"-meaning large boned and heavily muscled. My daughter, for one, inherited that. She is very fit, but struggles some with maintenence. My husband could loose some weight. And I have 5 boys, most of whom are "stocky" too, and health-orriented. I'd like some info on that, if you have any insight for me.

Thanks for your response. Personal trainers who were setting my goals figured my caloric intake. The lowest I've gone is 1700 and was incredibly hungry, shaky and grumpy. lol

I had a trainer figure my lean muscle mass. The calculations on here and every site that relies on BMI doesn't figure in lean muscle mass. This site is the best I've seen and I like it very much. I have a lot of muscle, though, and BMI doesn't track that. I've looked at all the math this site uses, and none of it figures in muscle mass....I haven't found an online calculator that does. I have a lot of fat to lose, yes, but at 5'8.5" I'll never be the recommended 145-155 with the muscle I have.

"There are some drawbacks to using BMI. It is not very accurate for pregnant women, people less than five feet tall, or people who have a lot of muscle mass." - SparkPeople.com

You're correct, I'll change the time frame for my weight loss. When I did it, I was brand new and just stuck in a date.

You can change them manually yourself, and I believe that's how, but I'd be asking - how do you know they're too low? Where does the 2100 figure come from?

Spark has quite a complex arithmetical calculation to come up with those figures, individualised to you personally. So I'd somewhat doubt that they're wrong.

How aggressive is your weight loss goal? If you're looking to lose around 2lb/wk, you'll get around 1200-1550 as your intake range unless you workout thousands of calories. If you want to get a 2100 range, you could simply extend the goal date for your weight loss.

If not, the tech support on this site is excellent!

The calories it says I need are way too low. My goal should be about 2100 with working out 5 days/week. How can I change this?
