Track Omega 3?

We can't make omega-3s something that will automatically track until the USDA's food data base starts tracking it. But if you are able to track it on your own, or want to track your omega -3 supplements, you could use the measurements tracker. Just make omega-3s a "measurement" you want to track, just like your waist measurement, and enter the number of mg you have everyday (or just indicate that you did or didn't take your supplement). You'll get a report that shows your results over time, just like the other reports.

Hope this helps.

I agree (and also vitamin K ... even though it's not on a lot of packages - I keep asking for it for people who track such things). :)

I track my Omega-3s because I have a malabsorption disease. What I'm doing right now is choosing some obscure nutrient and using it instead. When I took my nutrient tracker/food journal to my doctor appt, he was very impressed! He wanted to know why I was tracking "Alanine" and "Arginine", etc. though! He was glad I was taking Omega-3s btw. :)

Maybe we could have some "write ins"?

I take an Omega 3 supplement and it would be great to be able to add that in the tracker.

That is helpful, thank you. But hopefully it can be added to the tracker anyway, so that we can see that we're getting some!

HI, A

The problem is that information on omega-3 content of many foods isn't available, and there isn't a clear recommended daily amount. There is a recommendation for alpha-linolenic acid (the stuff your body makes omega-3 fats out of), which is 1.6 grams for men, and 2 grams for women who aren't pregnant--but some experts recommend getting 2% of your total calories from omega-3 fats.

Hope this helps.

I couldn't find Omega 3 in the nutrient list. Is it possible to add it in there, along with some recommended values to hit each day?
