I have to agree with CHOKKIPIE that it's annoying to remember to check the little box. I would prefer to see 2 buttons "Search Master" and "Search User" so that it's easier to search for things that I have entered.

| i think my only gripe about the food search is when i choose a user-entered food and it says '1 serving'. is that 1 cup, 2 ounces, 4 ounces? i have no idea and i find myself entering it for my own records with the actual serving size, not just '1 serving'. i wish the 'serving' option was disabled.

| What I find a bit annoying is to put that tick everytime I want to search my own foods.. and untick it to look in the database. It would be so much more comfortable to just have 2 separate search buttons for database food and manually entered foods. What do you guys think?

I've noticed this a lot with foods having different info. I learned from calling companies that they change the formula for their food sometimes and have to update their nutrition labels to reflect that. So a food may have been entered correctly at the time it was done, but may not be correct now. I find that this happens the most with frozen foods (weight watchers etc...).
I always double check the labels before I enter it. If it's different and it's something I eat a lot, i just put it in manually.

| I am finding some inconsistent information. An example is All Bran Cereal or Cheerios cereal. I have compared both in the food tracker and from my own box and they are different. How can they differ?

| You're able to do this, just make sure to check the box to find foods you've manually entered when adding food to a grouping.

| Why can't we make food groupings with user-entered foods?

I'll try to help clear up the confusion, I definitely see how it can be confusing.
The foods with the asterisk were shared by other members and approved by SparkPeople staff to be in the shared database. We actually have not let members submit foods to the main database for around 3 years, we found too many inaccuracies (but the foods in there now should all be good).
The new feature just allows you to share with other specific members/usernames, not with all members.
In searching for your own foods, you indeed need to check the box to search your manually entered foods.

I saw the post below about sharing user-entered foods, and I'm a little confused. When I look at the food tracker search results, there are usually some entries with asterisks. Aren't these the ones that other members entered?
Also, I was wondering if it would be possible for my own manually entered foods to show up alongside the main database when I search - that is, if I can't remember if I'm the one who entered a different flavor of powerbar (for instance) it would be great if I only had to search once rather than twice (main and personal lists)
Or maybe this already exists and my settings are wrong...hmm...
