I get them when I am stressed. I get them under my tongue and on the sides, and down my throat. I've had as many as 13 at a time (that I could see and count).
YUCK!
Mix a bit of liquid benadryl and a liquid antacid, like mylanta. Swish with it and swallow just a little if you need/want to.
Throat coat, a tea made with slippery elm bark, or slippery elm bark lozenges (get from a co-op or natural section of your grocery) soothe, as well.
Lysine does seem to lessen the duration of the canker sore... I load up as soon as I feel one coming. I have a 1000 mg extra-strength pill -- I'll take 5-6 a day.
I have cut out orange juice from my diet, that has seemed to help. Also since I know my trigger is stress, I try to stay stress-free. Or as free as possible.
