We do have an age limit of 18, which is enforced. Also, we have a policy of referring members with active eating disorders to professional help and other resources, and closing the account, if the member is actively pursuing an unhealthy weight goal, and/or their behavior is clearly putting them at risk.

But we do rely on getting reports from you when you see underage members, since they do misrepresent their age in order to register. Same with members who appear to be putting themselves at risk.

Here's a link to info about our new Sparkteam aimed at helping members interested in kid's health.

Hope this helps.

Wow I thought there was an age limit ...something like 18 but you know, now that I think about it, what is to stop any of the younger ones from becoming a member. The only thing you might want to consider is when you see a post that is an obvious young person, report it and let one of the experts look into it.

At the moment there is a team for parents or those interested in helping kids but as far as I know, no kids are supposed to be members of the site. My nieces would love it however they are too young and what is available in terms of tracking etc is really for the adult. Hopefully Spark will one day be able to have something for the youth.

After coming across a few teenage girls on the site, and seeing that they already weigh a healthy weight and are trying to lose it, I'm kinda wondering if young girls should be allowed? Ok on my hand, they need to be healthy too, so let them have a way to track it. It just seems like tracking like this could make them even more obsessed than they already were to begin with. I guess it's more of an ethical question. Do we look the other way when we come across someone who is maybe taking it too far?
