| For example, the ad I saw today that prompted me to post the previous message was an ad for a Hoodia Weight Loss patch--it just seems to me that this sort of product is contrary to everything SparkPeople promotes.

Hi, A
Unfortunately, we often don't get a chance to see many of the rotating ads that appear on the site until they actually appear, because of the way internet advertising works. We can usually have ads inappropriate for our site removed from the rotation if we know about them, so members are encouraged to report any specific ads they have problems with.
Hope this helps.

I've read several SparkPeople articles that wisely advise member to beware of "miracle" weight loss products and others that suggest we use supplements carefully. That is why I am curious to know why SparkPeople allows advertisers promoting questionable weight loss products and supplements.
Don't get me wrong, I understand ad revenue is essential to keeping this site free, it just seems contrary to what SparkPeople is all about to accept advertising from such companies.
Are there SparkPeople advertising guidelines?
