That is kind of what I thought at first... Why do I care about these silly little points... But honestly they really do motovate me and keep me on track. I am proud of my points and have worked at getting them.

| It's a visible way to keep me working on nutrition and fitness, along with just plain fun. I like to see how many points I can collect each day without going overboard on message board posting or overdoing exercise.

| I like having something to work towards. The points so far have kept me interested in wanting to read articles and watch the videos. I just started yesterday and from reading some of the other replies to this post, I see it does get harder, but I think it gets harder to lose those pounds and stay healthy as well. If I know i'm working towards that goal and I can see progress in myself and on screen, I think I will stay more motivated!

I understand that SparkPoints are supposed to be motivating, but they're not working for me anymore. I'm up to the seventh trophy, and it's a long time till my next one, and I just don't seem to care anymore which little icon I look at!
But I do have a suggestion: It would make all the difference in the world to me (silly as it may be) if there were some little prize for reaching the next trophy. One that I've seen in the past is a computer generated fireworks display - fun and exciting to watch, and they could get longer or more elaborate with each new level. Another one would be my name posted on a "Congratulations" board. I'd also LOVE to see some interesting little areas only open to those with certain trophies.

When I first joined, I hadn't a clue what the points were for..so, I did everything to get to the next level. NOW...I still do it for the same reason. Just another milestone to achieve (lame maybe), but in doing so, I am watching what I eat, how much I exercise, trying new recipes, reading interesting articles, etc.
I too don't think much about the videos...I watched one at the beginning where it was an actual family and how/what changed their lives. That was more interesting than some of the video clips. Not many choices and boring....whew!

| Sparkpoints give me the motivation to try something new in food or exercise, or that extra oomph to do a few more minutes of cardio because I know it makes me that much closer to my next trophy. I also enjoy reading the articles and health news, I've learned some new things from SP.
|
|
|

MGBrock, that's my take on them too. They motivated me to try many things on the site that I might never have even known to look for. And they motivate me to log my strength training. I always think I'll remember what I did a couple of days after doing it, but I don't and this helps me to work consistently.
All that being said, there are just some things I can't bring myself to do when time is short. Watching the little videos is one of them. It just takes too much time and there have only been a few that caught my interest. The articles on the other hand I enjoy. Like you, I don't take points for something I didn't do.
The value in the point lies in the process of earning them. Sort of like the value of our weight loss lies in the process of achieving it.

I wrote her and told her to keep up the good work and told her why and she wrote me back and told me that I was keeping her motivated to be the leader of the team. Anything that works, right?

Virtual Icon.
I will check it out.
I can set up team challenges. Must be the only section I haven't use. I will also check that out.
|
|

They're just motivational and not worth much except a way to encourage you to check out all the areas of SPARKPEOPLE daily. You just get a virtual icon change with the more points you accumulate. Check out the area on the right under MY POINTS. If you click on the icon you'll see what the icons are. You just get a chance to get on the leader board. You can use them to set up personal challenges or a team challenge. They're just virtual but very motivational and EXTREMELY ADDICTIVE.
I'm working on sparkle to top my golden trophy. I just need 10,800 more points. Best of luck.
