| wear a pedometer and be amazed how many steps you take in a day. Just around my house doing house work I get in a ton of steps and then I have two sets of steps to do between floors in my house and office so I count the steps also it is just interesting to see what we do accomplish each day!

Typically you will burn more calories standing than at a sitting job...and the tracker does have activity for Standing - Light Activity. I count my time at work at about one tenth the calories the tracker credits. Just so I have an idea of what I expend .. I know it's not enough activity for my health, so I don't count this as part of my planned calorie burn for the week...just track it for my own knowledge...and to ensure I am aware of the deficit I could be creating. I am in maintenance mode now and don't need to lose another pound.

Hi and welcome to Spark People!
I also have a very active job. I'm on my feet all day, moving and doing a lot of lifting. I've been doing it for over 20 years though, so never count it towards exercise. Generally, if it's part of your daily routine, your body becomes used to it, so you wouldn't really be able to count it as exercise. I still think having an active job gives us a bit more leeway in our food intake. The only time I might count part of my work as exercise is when it's much harder than normal....like if we have a break down and I have to do a lot of stuff manually that is normally done by machine.
For me, exercise is part of my recreation, so I don't think I'd like to count work as exercise. It would really make me hate exercise. LOL

| Hi all! This is my first time posting here. I'm a full-time student and I work about 25 hours a week in a retail store where I do a lot of fast walking around the store. Can that be considered exercise? After a long day I feel pretty tired from being on my feet the whole time. I never sweat, but I just move around a lot. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!
