Hi,
I am new to SP and this is exactly what I'm looking for a buddy with similar goals as myself. If you can hook me up with a buddy that would be great.
I want to lose a total of 60 pounds, but my right now goal is 20 pounds in the next 3 months. I am a mother of 5 (14-12-10-9-5), I'm married to my high school sweetheart of 17+ years.
I am 32 years old and would like a female buddy along the same age as myself, with the same type of background as descibed above.

| I can relate to your need to buddy with someone who understands. I need to lose 70 lbs. I have a daughter who is more than 100 lbs. overweight and a granddaughter who is close to 275 lbs and only a teenager! I'm hoping they will join this or something to help them. I know first hand how hard it is, and how much we all want to get healthier.

Dear Sugarbooger,
I don't know if you have found a buddy yet, but looking around through the postings I saw your message about what you think is important in a buddy... I glanced at your profile, and it cracked me up since we have basically the same goals. I am 25 and also a SAHM, although I only have two children (SO FAR!) and also attend college full time. I have 30 lbs to lose to get to my desired weight of 144, but if that doesn't put me in size 10 jeans, then I'll be hoping to drop a little more. I live in Western Washington.

I think age, gender, the amount you have to lose and the type of exercises you have in common are important.
I'd like to 'buddy' with someone who likes to walk and basically, that's it in exercise, except for some stretching daily too. Just someone to share encouraging words when needed and perhaps dieting tips and recipes. Also, someone who really wants to lose and we could encourage each other. I need to lose 70 lbs!!

| Great Idea if you can keep it simple and easy for new members to find their niche. For ex. when I began SP I was aimlessly wondering around the boards looking for other people who could relate to me in my weight loss goals. Finally by chance I stumbled across a group of people needing to loss over 100 lbs. in the ON LINE DIET CLASS FORUM under the topic "100 lbs. to lose". It would be nice for new members to fill out a profile of needs and wants and then have a list of boards or sites they could go to instantly that may fulfill their needs. Finding my GROUP OF PEOPLE so to speak is whats keeping me going strong. I can really open up when chatting with other people who know what I'm going through! Thanks for listening, Steve

I think that the amount of weight you have to lose is important.
Also your age and family/ lifestyle. For instance I am a SAHM, and would love to have another SAHM to partner with. (the age part isn't as important to me)
Location-- it would be nice to have some one nearby, but that isn't really a big deal either.
Similar weight loss goals ibelieve is the MOST important :-)

I think this is a great idea! I especially think that the family life/lifestyle would be important to me when finding a buddy.
Maybe where you live also and how much they want to communicate (email only, phone, weekly basis, daily basis, etc.)

Is there a "Profiles" section already set up? I would be interested in that AND a Diet Buddy section. Is this just still in discussion? If so, when is it scheduled to come on board?
I think it would be great and I do think that all the items you listed in the original post are important. For instance, I'm married, 42, with no 2-legged kids, but 4-legged fur ones instead....I probably would not be the best Diet Buddy for the SAHM with kids who wrote in below soley from the standpoint that we wouldn't have too much in common besides trying to lose weight and while that's a cohesive force, to be sure, I'm certain my dog stories would bore her in no time! LOL
I would prefer same sex, same area. In fact, I wouldn't mind at all getting together with a Diet Buddy to walk or workout......let's roll! ;)

This sounds like a great idea!!! Lifestyle is also a great question.... what you do for a living, are you a student... educational background.... short term goals (marriage, reunion)
I'll be very excited to see this come out, it's a wonderful idea that will set Spark aide from the rest of the diet places out there...
How about Pictures.....???? for the members... before and progress.... maybe 5 total with weights under them?? to be viewed on our profiles.

Age I think is important as well as a little about their family. Like I would love to have someone buddy with me. Who has some of the samethings going on with them. Like I have 4 kids and am a stay at home mom. Also how much are they trying to loose. Is important too.

| My primary interests in a potential buddy would be the person's goals with exercise/food, lifestyle (partnered, living alone, with kids, etc.), age, purpose of wanting a buddy. I hadn't thought of having a buddy; my family is very supportive, however I think it would be interesting and fun and supportive to have one. In that sense I don't need one, AND it always helps to have more motivation and support.

| I think the most important for me is that they are in the same category of weight (meaning that they want to lose the same amount and/or are the same amount overweight). Age or gender doesnt really matter that much... just the general feeling that we're all in it together. And I have a diet buddy from my previous post requesting one, and she's wonderful!!! We give each other a little daily inspiration, ask what the challenges are, etc. It's really wonderful...

Hey all
We're looking to create a simple "find a buddy" system for our members, where member could post information about themselves to figure out who would be a good buddy. The main thing we're trying to figure out what information it makes sense for members to share with other members to determine a good buddy fit. Here are some ideas we have. Please let us know what you think of any of these, and also write back with any others you think of yourself.
1) How much weight you want to lose, and whether you want to find someone with a similar goal.
2) Your gender, and whether you want someone of the same gender or don't care.
3) Your age, and whether you want to find someone of a similar age
4) Your family status/life status, and whether you want to find someone similar (single, married, with kids, etc)
5) The type of diet you are on
6) Whether you want support with watching what you eat or exercising more, or both
7) Are you a first time dieter, or have you tried other diets
8) Why you feel you need a buddy?
9) What type of support do you want from a buddy?
10) How do you want to communicate with a buddy (e-mail, instant messenger, phone)
