| Hell yeah! Not sure how normal it is..but there are usually several factors involved..the temp (I have a very narrow window of comfort)& humidity (Lord help us all when it's humid!) and what I am wearing. And that's just normal everyday. I definitely sweat when I walk..unless it's cooler, and I am dressed cooler. Then, it is usually when I am done. Glad to see I'm not the only one with that issue!

| Yes, everytime. I walk fast enough and far enough to make sure I glow. Some cool, cloudy days in the NW make it a bit of a challenge, I confess. Lately, like twice, I have added a jog in the middle or end of my walk, usually 4 miles but sometimes 6, and that brings out the sweat for sure.

| depends on the time of day...If I walk at 5 in the morning, I'm only a wee bit damp from sweat, but that changes as the day goes on...at the gym, I just get soaked on the treadmill or bike..I recently read an article here on Spark about the importance of drinking water....the article said to drink about the same amount before, during, and after...and drink a lot. So, I've upped the water intake, especially at the gym.

| Yep. A lot. But outdoors, here in the desert, it tends to evaporate pretty fast, which is really good for cooling off.

I read that sweating profusely is a sign of good health, as your body is able to rapidly adapt to changes. Alberto Salazar, who held the world record in the 10K, also held the record for sweating-- it was something insane, like 5-6 liters in an hour. And fine-tuned athletes begin sweating within a couple minutes of starting excercise, versus up to 10 minutes for regular folks. I sweat quickly when walking or running, so I take that as a good sign!

| Well, today I worked out in the gym instead of on the outside where I usually do my walking. I did sweat this time. I think it has to do with the pace and the temperature. Normally, when I am outside it is cool but when I am on the treadmill I have to keep a steady pace throughout the workout so I definitely did a bit of sweating today. Thanks for all of your responses.
| For me it depends on the ambient temp, humidity and how fast I'm going. I can generally walk faster than a lot of people 'jog' either outside or on the treadmill.

| I like to sweat. It makes me feel like I'm accomplishing something. But (back when I was skinny) I had running partners that when we would run 5 miles they had a few drops hit the ground. If you feel the burn, don't worry about it.

People differ a lot in how much they sweat, and as a general rule, men tend to sweat more than women--and I seem to sweat more than enough to make up for 2 or 3 non-sweaters, lol. How much you sweat isn't a good guide to go by when trying to figure out if you're working hard enough. You'll be much better off using your heart rate, the "talk test", or your perceived exertion. Here's an article from the Resource Center with more info on these:
Exercise Intensity.
Hope this helps.

| I have a question for everyone. Is it entirely necessary to sweat when you are walking to burn calories? The reason I am asking is because when I walk, which I normally walk two miles on a given day, but I don't really sweat that much. Some people have sweat pouring off of them while I have a minimal amount. I know I am working because I can fill the burn in my body but not much sweat. If I am doing aerobics or strength traing at a controlled pace I do sweat but again not that much. I would appreciate you responses.
