Dave, can we have some way of knowing which ads SP gets a revenue on the basis of clicks?

I personally have no interest in the sites that are advertised as they are for US members, but if I know you can benefit from it, would click on them from time to time....or would your telling us contravene contracts you have with the companies?

with amazon, does it matter if you buy something but not necessarily something that was in the banner ad?

It depends....sometimes we get paid just when an ad is shown, sometimes when an ad is clicked, and sometimes when you click an ad and buy or register for something. In the case of Amazon, it's just if you buy something.

is simply clicking on an ad link helpful to Sparkpeople or is it only when you actually buy something.

i saw amazon.com links for the first time today and since i often wander aimlessly on amazon, i clicked on it and hung out for a while. does doing that help?
